Password
◦ A password is an unspaced sequence of characters used to determine
that a computer user requesting access to a computer system is really
that particular user. Typically, users of a multiuser or securely protected
single-user system claim a unique name (called a user ID) that can be
generally known.
Choosing a secure and memorable
password
◦ The easier a password is for the owner to remember generally means it
will be easier for an attacker to guess.[2] However, passwords which are
difficult to remember may also reduce the security of a system because
◦ users might need to write down or electronically store the password
◦ users will need frequent password resets
◦ users are more likely to re-use the same password
Researches
◦ In 2013, Google released a list of the most common password types, all of
which are considered insecure because they are too easy to guess (especially
after researching an individual on social media):[7]
◦ The name of a pet, child, family member, or significant other
◦ Anniversary dates and birthdays
◦ Birthplace
◦ Name of a favorite holiday
◦ Something related to a favorite sports team
◦ The word "password"
Why Password cracking
◦ The purpose of password cracking might be to help a user recover a
forgotten password (installing an entirely new password is less of a
security risk, but it involves System Administration privileges), to gain
unauthorized access to a system, or as a preventive measure by system
administrators to check for easily crackable passwords. On a file-by-file
basis, password cracking is utilized to gain access to digital evidence for
which a judge has allowed access but the particular file's access is
restricted.
How to create strong password
◦ Use a unique password for each of your important accounts.
◦ Use a mix of letters, numbers, and symbols in your password.
◦ Don't use personal information or common words as a password.
Example of create strong password
◦ Try to mix it up — for example, “BigHouse$123” fits many of the
requirements here. It's 12 characters and includes upper-case letters,
lower-case letters, a symbol, and some numbers
Thank you
