PARENTING
Parenting i.e. bringing up children, is an art and should be mastered by every parent.
There are few suggestions to the parents regarding how to deal with children psychologically so
that they time out to be stable personalities of future.

   1. It is but natural that parents can have differences or disharmony but this should not be
discussed in front of the child as it leads to feeling of insecurity.

   2. Although punishment is required at times but it should be minimum and the best way to
punish is to deprive the child for some privilege. Child will not learn from scolding,
      beating or ridiculing.

   3. Parents should show a consistent behavior child should be given a clear and fix
instruction & than the parents should struck to these instructions.

   5. Over protection should be avoided specially in the setting of joint family because it leads
to dependence. Over protected children often turn out to be introverts. Might not be able
to make friends and remain introvert throughout the life.

   6. Unrealistic expectations should be avoided. Every child can’t maintain 1st position in the
class, must be remembered by the parents.

   7. Parents should never shout or shriek at their children for small issues. Instead child
should be taken in a separate room and told firmly about his misconduct, and that he will
not be allowed to cross the norms.

   8. Children should not be criticized in an unhealthy manner and should not be compared to
      other children in unfavorable manner.

   9. Parents should not impose beyond a certain limit their own value systems, aspiration and
philosophy on the child. Child should be helped in finding his own way out.

                                                                             Dr. Ravi Malik
                                                                               M.B.B.S.,M.D. (Paed)
                                                                           Sr. Child Specialist
