4. The Panama hat is a traditional hat that is made from the plaited leaves of the (Carludovica
Palmatu) called for the people Palma Toquilla. This plant grows in the Andes and Atlantic
Coast in Colombia and in some places in Ecuador. The Panama hat history began when The
Panama Canal was in construction at the begin of the 20th century. The people from Europe
who worked in this zone needed tropical hats because of the humidity and the hot
temperatures. These local hats (at this time Panama was part of Colombia) were made with

became very famous. These hats were the second line of Colombia exportation after the

are brown and beige natural colors from the palm.
