A green light to greotness:
Dear Awards Evaluators:
We, the hall directors of The College Inn would like to add our supporl for Leidy Guarin
to win the Residence Life Advisor Council's Outstanding Vet RA Award. Leidy shows
unswerving dedication to her residents, her fellow staffmembers, and the UNT community at
large and balances all of her responsibilities with such a superb composure, she serves as a role
model to all around her.
Leidy is in her third semester as a Resident Assistant and has quickly become the
standard-setter for the entire College Inn staff. With less than one month before the conclusion of"
the semester, Leidy has thirteen programs entered and eleven completed so far. Leidy can
frequently be seen going up and down her wing, knocking on cloors to invite her residents out to
eat with her, to join her at the rec, to attend another RA's program, to attend an intramural game,
or to attend a College inn Association event. In fact, we hall directors know that if we ever want
a large turnout at a program or event, we should ask Leidy to bring her residents. Leidy greets
every resident she sees enthusiastically and by name, and will fiequently call out to others
walking along our balconies while she sits comfortably and visibly in our courtyard"
Leidy is often spoken of by her fellow RAs as the example by which they measure
themselves. One RA in particular, Paige, has told us on more than one occasion that she hopes to
be the kind of RA Leidy is someday. Leidy serves as staff mentor to our lone rookie RA, but she
is a mentor and role model to the entire staff. "l wish i could do what Leidy does with her wing,"
has been said on multiple occasions by multiple RAs. Also, the student volunteers who serve on
CIA know that they always have a friend and supporter in Leidy. She works hard to bridge the
gap between the RAs and CIA and make sure that both groups know that they are all working
towards the same goal - so why not work together?
Leidy serves as an exemplar by what she does outside of College Inn as well. She is a
member of NT40, an organization for the top 40 student leaders on campus, and has recently
been elected to their executive board to serve next semester. She is also actively involved in
RLAC and the National Residence Hall Honorary. Her name is known throughout Housing, both
by her fellow RAs across campus and by professional staff members, including hall directors and
Central Housing administrators. Also. Leidy has worked tremendously hard to help one of her
former resident's dreams come true. This former resident has been confined to a wheelchair for
six years following a car accident. FIer only dream is to be able to walk across stage at her
college graduation this May. Leidy l'ras almost single-handcdly made this come to pass by
collaborating with RLAC, NRHH. and Greek Life to fundraise fbr a special set of leg braces
which would make this possible. She also liaised with a particular company which manufactures
these leg braces, and that company has just fitted the leg braces as of this week. All of this Leidy
does not because herjob obligates her to, but because she truly sees it as her personal duty to
serve others.
For these reasons, we ardently and insistently add our recommendation to Leidy's
nomination for RI,AC's Outstanding Vet RA Award and hope we have properly illustrated what
an extraordinary young woman shc is.
