Expectations of Fellowship
As Outreach Fellows you are responsible for sharing your travel experiences with
the Wandering Scholar and Walking Tree communities before, during and after
your summer programs.

During your trip:
 • Share updates and insights on Twitter (and Facebook) about your
experiences with the Local Roots community.
 • Keep a written log of your thoughts, activities, new phrases and ideas for use
in your twitter updates and future presentation.
Upon your return:
 • Give a presentation to your school about your summer experiences.
 • Act as ambassadors of Walking Tree Travel and The Wandering Scholar by
serving as a reference for future participants.
Expectations of Fellowship - continued

Tweeting:
Using Social Media while Abroad
Twitter Facebook etc...

Tips for Content
 • Record observations about customs and culture (How do locals greet one
another? What does your host family do on weekends?)
 • Give updates on your daily activities ("Today I did/saw/heard _. It was _!")
 • Read a local paper or watch the news and tweet about it
 • Follow the twitter stream of someone in your host country (this can be
anyone: a politician, activist, celebrity or a student like you)
 • Join a Facebook group relevant to your host country (is there a "fan" page for
   a local store or restaurant?)

Tips for Time Management
 • Plan ahead!
 • Set aside a few moments each day to reflect
