The Vicenza Military Community will conduct a full-scale exercise called Lion Response on May 10 at Caserma Ederle to test and validate joint U.S. and Italian emergency response plans and procedures. The exercise will include several scenarios that impact the garrison and will test the integration and response capabilities of both countries' emergency response agencies. While the drill is intended to exercise plans and build relationships, it may cause temporary traffic impacts and gate closures as emergency vehicles respond to the scenarios.

There are three main types of federal student loans available to finance college costs:
1) Subsidized Stafford Loans are available based on financial need and the government pays interest while enrolled.
2) Unsubsidized Stafford Loans are available to all students but interest accrues while enrolled which increases total cost.
3) Perkins Loans are similar to Subsidized Stafford Loans with some interest covered after graduation.
Private student loans from parents or banks can also be options to cover remaining college costs beyond federal loans. Understanding the loan types is important for developing a financial plan to pay for higher education.

installation.
The exercise is set for May 10 and in-

agement are coordinated efforts for the
Vicenza Military Community, involv-

the U.S. Army Garrison Italy force pro-

Since its inauguration in 1999, the an-

“This year’s event allows us to exercise

While the drill is intended to exercise
and validate emergency management
plans, procedural agreements, and in-
teroperability between U.S. and Italian
emergency response agencies, it also
serves to build relationships between the
two communities.

Italians will mark the 71st anniversary
of one of the country’s biggest holidays

or Liberation Day.
Liberation Day is a national holiday
that marks the fall of Mussolini’s Italian
Social Republic and the end of the Nazi
occupation in Italy in 1945, towards the
end of the second World War.
Celebrations in Italy are twofold — one
part is to honor those who fought the fas-
cist regime, serving as partisans in the
and the other is to protest against tyranny
and oppression throughout the world.
The entire country joins in the celebra-
tion. Marching bands, music concerts,
food festivals, political rallies, and other
public gatherings will take place in small
and larger towns all over Italy.
