2. Background
● “Oriole for a Day” will provide a child in need with the opportunity of being a
part of the Orioles organization for one day.
● The selected child gets to experience batting practice on the field, get their
own locker & jersey, sign a 1-day contract, meet players, throw out the first
pitch, present the lineup card, and attend Buck’s post-game press conference
● We want to host an “Oriole for a Day” about 6-8 times throughout the season
○ Roughly once a month depending on home game schedule
○ Aiming for Saturday games
● Orioles currently do not have a program of this nature
3. What Other AL East Teams are Doing
● Yankees - work in conjunction with Make-A-Wish Foundation to grant wishes
of approximately 30 children per year
● Rays - “Tuesday’s Champion” Program (12 games this season)
● Red Sox - Children from Massachusetts General Hospital for Children meet
David & enjoy a game at Fenway Park as part of his Papi's Pals ticket
program. (3 times)
● Blue Jays - Hospital visits throughout the season
4. Selection / Nomination Process
● Similar to “Birdland Community Heroes” program selection process
● People will be able to nominate children from an online form found on the
Orioles website (name, address, contact info, description of child’s story, etc.)
● We will then select a child based on our eligibility criteria:
○ Children between the ages of 5-17 are eligible to be selected for the promotion
○ Currently have, or have overcome a life-threatening medical condition
○ Will accept nominations from all 50 states, but Maryland will receive first
priority when choosing
