Abstract Large scale, global temperature analyses and climate change models may sometimes
oversimplify or generalize smaller, regional trends. Only until a few years ago, efforts on climate
change projections for island scale has intensified for more reliable assessments of various impacts of
long term climate trends (Hamilton, 2014). Temperature changes over Hawaiʻi are expected to exceed
the current daily maximum values by the end of the 21st century (Lauer et al., 2013). Mountainous
tropical islands in the Hawaiian archipelago are showing greater warming than the lower elevations
(Giambelluca et al. 2008; Diaz et al. 2011, 2014). Observed surface air temperature trends can also be
used to test regionally downscaled climate models. The goal of this thesis is to analyze climate data to
assess possible trends that are likely to impact future management of summit ecosystems. This
research is essential to the effective protection and restoration of these fragile alpine and subalpine
ecosystems. The primary focus of this research is to expand on and update the previous analysis by
Giambelluca et al. (2008) by extending the data set from 2006 through to 2014 15 in order to: (a)

The George Hotel s Prospects for the future
The George Hotel is a controversial project that will bring much needed rejuvenation to a lacking
lower Gibsons. The George though being battled by many will bring much needed employment
opportunities to the sunshine coast. This expansion to our waterfront will also bring with it a boost in
tourism and keep the bustling culture of lower Gibsons alive. With this project comes heavy
opposition from people all over the Sunshine Coast. Many people feel that the design of this project is

One of the most common long term complications of diabetes mellitus is painful neuropathy. Diabetic
neuropathy is estimated to affect about 60 70% of all diabetes patients and can lead to foot ulcers,
amputations, and decreased quality of life. The most common form is chronic peripheral neuropathy
which results in pain and numbness in the extremities, usually described as a burning, tingling, or
steady aching pain.1 Patients may also feel increased sensitivity to pain or experience paresthesia, a
sensation of tingling, tickling, or prickling of the skin.1 According to current guidelines, intensive
glycemic control is very important for the prevention and reduction of peripheral neuropathy and other
microvascular complications.1,2 Medications used to help relieve nerve pain include duloxetine and
pregabalin (Lyrica®), which are both approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for use in
diabetic neuropathy. Other drug classes commonly used are antidepressants, anticonvulsants, and
opioids.3 Although there are many medications used for this condition, pain relief is often insufficient
for patients. Treatment is difficult due to the complicated pathophysiology of pain transmission and
the wide range of mechanisms of action of drugs used to treat pain. Therefore, there is a continued
need for additional medication options for this chronic painful condition. Lacosamide is an
anticonvulsant approved for use as monotherapy or adjunctive therapy for partial onset seizures.

start the Civil Rights Movement in the United States. This incident organized a bus boycott that began

The U.S Supreme Court ruled that the segregation was unconstitutional. Rosa Parks was nationally

within the United States. This sparked the American Civil Rights Movement of the 20th century, and
to honor her, she was voted by Time magazine as one of the top 100 most influential people of the
20th century (1998). They also built a museum and a library in honor of Rosa Parks, in Montgomery,
Alabama. I believe this was a very important event in the history of African Americans because for
once they were given the chance to retaliate from the outrageous laws against them.As the news of the
Montgomery boycott began to rapidly spread African American leaders throughout the city began
lending their support.
