Mental health has been in the news quite a bit lately. Dozens of U.S. states are currently suing Meta for contributing to the youth mental health crisis by inserting addictive features into their products, while the U.S. Surgeon General is touring the nation to bring awareness to the growing epidemic of loneliness and isolation. The country has endured periods of low national morale, such as in the 1970s when high inflation and the energy crisis worsened public sentiment following the Vietnam War. The current mood, however, feels different. Gallup recently reported that national mental health is at an all-time low, with few bright spots to lift spirits.
To better understand how Americans are feeling and their attitudes towards mental health in general, ThinkNow conducted a nationally representative quantitative survey of 1,500 respondents and found some interesting differences among ethnic, age and gender groups.
Technology
For example, 52% agree that technology and social media have a negative impact on mental health, but when broken out by race, 61% of Whites felt technology had a negative effect, and only 48% of Hispanics thought it did.
While technology has helped us keep in touch with friends and family in faraway places, it appears to have degraded our ability to connect in person. Staying connected online is a double-edged sword since the same news feed that brings us pictures of the grandkids and fluffy kittens also feeds us news about the wars in Israel and Ukraine, the dysfunction in Washington, the latest mass shooting and the climate crisis.
Hispanics may have a built-in defense against the isolation technology breeds, owing to their large, multigenerational households, strong social support systems, and tendency to use social media to stay connected with relatives abroad.
Age and Gender
When asked how individuals rate their mental health, men rate it higher than women by 11 percentage points, and Baby Boomers rank it highest at 83%, saying it’s good or excellent vs. 57% of Gen Z saying the same.
Gen Z spends the most amount of time on social media, so the notion that social media negatively affects mental health appears to be correlated. Unfortunately, Gen Z is also the generation that’s least comfortable discussing mental health concerns with healthcare professionals. Only 40% of them state they’re comfortable discussing their issues with a professional compared to 60% of Millennials and 65% of Boomers.
Race Affects Attitudes
As seen in previous research conducted by ThinkNow, Asian Americans lag other groups when it comes to awareness of mental health issues. Twenty-four percent of Asian Americans believe that having a mental health issue is a sign of weakness compared to the 16% average for all groups. Asians are also considerably less likely to be aware of mental health services in their communities (42% vs. 55%) and most likely to seek out information on social media (51% vs. 35%).

પ્રસ્તત સંશોધનનં સ્િરૂપ સંખ્યાત્મક પ્રકારનં હતં. આ સંશોધનમાં િિગનાત્મક
સંશોધન પિમત અંતર્ગત સિેક્ષિ અને સંબંધાત્મક પિમતઓનો ઉપયોર્ કરિામાં
આવ્યો હતો.
પ્રસ્તત સંશોધનમાં સ્િ-મનયંમિત અધ્યયન પ્રત્યેની તત્પરતાનો માનમસક
સ્િાસ્્ય અને શૈક્ષણિક મસદ્ધિ સાર્થેના સંબંધનો અભ્યાસ કરિાનો હોઈ સંબંધાત્મક
પિમતનો ઉપયોર્ કરિામાં આવ્યો હતો.
િષગ 2018-2019ના અમદાિાદ જજલ્લાના ઉચ્ચતર માધ્યમમક શાળામાં
અભ્યાસ કરતાં ધોરિ-11ના મિદ્યાર્થીઓના સ્િ-મનયંમિત અધ્યયન પ્રત્યેની તત્પરતા
અને માનમસક સ્િાસ્્યના સ્તરને જાિિા તેમજ સ્િ-મનયંમિત અધ્યયન પ્રત્યેની
તત્પરતાનો માનમસક સ્િાસ્્ય અને શૈક્ષણિક મસદ્ધિ સાર્થેના સંબંધનો અભ્યાસ કરિા માટે
સિેક્ષિ પિમતનો ઉપયોર્ કરિામાં આવ્યો હતો.

સંશોધનનં વ્યાપમિશ્વ
ગુજરાત રાજ્યિા અમદાવાદ જજલલાિી ગુજરાતી માધ્યમિી વર્ગ
2018-19િી ઉચ્ચતર માધ્યનમક શાળાઓમાં અભ્યાિ કરતાં ધોરણ-11િા
નવદ્યાર્થીઓિો પ્રસ્તુત િંશોધિિાં વ્યાપનવશ્વમાં િમાનવષ્ટ કરવામાં
આવ્યો હતો.

મનદશગ પસંદર્ી
નિદશગ પિંદ કરવા માટે િૌ પ્રર્થમ અમદાવાદ જજલલામાં આવેલી
ગુજરાતી માધ્યમિી ઉચ્ચતર માધ્યનમક શાળાઓિી યાદી બિાવવામાં
આવી હતી. ત્યારબાદ તેિે શહેરી અિે ગ્રામીણ એમ બે સ્તરોમાં
વહેંચવામાં આવી.
બે સ્તરોમાં વહેંચાયેલ આ શાળઆઓિે પુિઃ િરકારી
અિે ખાિગી એમ બે સ્તરોમાં વહેંચીિે શાળાિા િામિી લચઠ્ઠીઓ
બિાવી તેમાંર્થી યાદચ્ચ્છક રીતે શાળાઓિી પિંદગી કરવામાં આવી હતી.
મારહતી એકિીકરણિા િમયે શાળામાં હાજર ધોરણ-11િા બધાજ
નવદ્યાર્થીઓિે ઝૂમખા રૂપે નિદશગ તરીકે પિંદ કરવામાં આવ્યા હતાં.

આમ પ્રસ્તુત િંશોધિ માટે સ્તરીકૂૃત ઝૂમખા નિદશગ
પ્રયુસ્નતિો ઉપયોગ કરી કૂુલ 20 ઉચ્ચતર માધ્યનમક શાળાઓિા
નવદ્યાર્થીઓિી નિદગશ તરીકે પિંદગી કરવામાં આવી હતી, જે અંતગગત
10 શહેરી નવસ્તાર (5 િરકારી અિે 5 ખાિગી શાળાઓ) અિે 10
ગ્રામ્ય નવસ્તાર (5 િરકારી અિે 5 ખાિગી શાળાઓ)િી શાળાઓિા
કૂુલ 741 નવદ્યાર્થીઓ નિદશગ તરીકે પિંદ ર્થયા હતાં.

િંશોધક દ્વારા ઉચ્ચતર માધ્યનમક શાળાિા ધોરણ-11િા નવદ્યાર્થીઓિા
સ્વ-નિયંનિત અધ્યયિ પ્રત્યેિી તત્પરતાિા માપિ માટે Zimmerman and
Martines-Pons (1986)િા કૂુલ 10 ઘટકો પર આધારરત સ્વ-નિયંનિત
અધ્યયિ તત્પરતા માપદંડિી રચિા અિે યર્થાર્થીકરણ કરવામાં આવ્યું
હતું.

લલકટગ પધ્ધનત મુજબ સ્વ-નિયંનિત અધ્યયિ તત્પરતા
માપદંડિી રચિા કરવામાટે ઉપકરણમાં િમાનવષ્ટ નવધાિોિી
ર્ેદપરખ ક્ષમતા જાણવા ટી-ગુણોત્તર (t-ratio)િી ગણતરી
કરવામાં આવી હતી. 0.05િા સ્તરે જે નવધાિોનું ટી મૂલય 1.96
કે તેર્થી વધુ હોય તેવા 60 નવધાિોિી ઘટક મુજબ પિંદગી
કરવામાં આવી હતી.

ગુજરાત રાજ્યિા ઉચ્ચતર માધ્યનમક શાળાિા નવદ્યાર્થીઓિા
માિનિક સ્વાસ્્યિા માપિ માટે યજ્ઞેશ પુરોરહત(2010) દ્વારા રલચત
અિે પ્રમાલણત કરેલ માિનિક સ્વાસ્્ય માપદંડિો ઉપયોગ કરવામાં
આવ્યો હતો. માપદંડમાં પાંચ ઘટકો હતાં, જેમાં સ્વ-િંકલપિા
(Self-Concept), િલામતી-અિલામતી (Sequrity-Unsequrity),
અનુકૂૂલિ (Adjustment), નિયનમતતા (Regularity) અિે
િાંવેલગક સ્સ્ર્થરતા (Emotional Stability)િો િમાવેશ ર્થયેલ હતો.

માિનિક સ્વાસ્્ય માપદંડમાં 17 હકારાત્મક અિે 43 િકારાત્મક
નવધાિો એમ કૂુલ 60 નવધાિો આપવામાં આવ્યાં હતાં. માપદંડમાં
પ્રનતચાર આપવા માટે હંમેશા, મોટાર્ાગે, પ્રિંગોપાત, કોઈક વખત અિે
કદાપી િરહ જેવા નવકલપો આપવામાં આવ્યાં હતાં. નવકલપવાર
પ્રનતચારોનું ગુણાંકિ કરવા હકારાત્મક નવધાિો માટે
અનુક્રમે 5,4,3,2,1 અિે િકારાત્મક નવધાિો માટે અનુક્રમે 1,2,3,4,5

શૈક્ષલણક નિદ્ધિિી િોંધ જે-તે શાળાિા કાયાગલયિા કારકૂુિ પાિેર્થી
નવદ્યાર્થીઓિા િામ અિે રોલ િંબર મુજબ તેમિી માકગશીટિી િકલિા
આધારે જે-તે નવદ્યાર્થીિા પ્રનતચારરત માપદંડિા િેટમાં યોગ્ય જગ્યાએ
િોંધ કરી લેવામાં આવી હતી.

માહહતી એકિીકરિ માટે સૌ પ્રર્થમ સંશોધક દ્વારા મિનંતીપિ દ્વારા
યાદપ્ચ્છક રીતે પસંદ કરેલ ઉચ્ચતર માધ્યમમક શાળાના આચાયગ શ્રીની
પરિાનર્ી લેિામાં આિી હતી.
ત્યારબાદ ધોરિ-11ના મિદ્યાર્થીઓને જરૂરી માહહતી ઉદાહરિ સાર્થે પૂરી
પાડિામાં આિી હતી, કે કેિી રીતે માપદંડમાં પ્રમતચાર આપિો.
માહહતી ભરાયા બાદ સંશોધક દ્વારા પ્રમતચાહરત માપદંડોનો સેટ
એકમિત કરી ર્ોઠિિામાં આવ્યો હતો.

કરિામાં આિશે. માહહતીનાં મિશ્લેષિ માટે Excel અને JASP

સંશોધનના તારિો
1.પ્રસ્તત સંશોધન દ્વારા ણલકટગ પિમત પર આધાહરત 60 મિધાનો
ધરાિતં ગજરાતી ભાષામાં મિશ્વસનીય અને યર્થાર્થગ સ્િ-મનયંમિત
અધ્યયન તત્પરતા માપદંડની રચના ર્થઈ, જે Zimmerman and
Martinez-pons (1986) દ્વારા સ ૂણચત ઘટકો ના આધારે રચિામા
આવ્યં હતં. રણચત માપદંડમાં 50 હકારાત્મક અને 10
નકારાત્મક મિધાનો હતાં.

2. ઉચ્ચ માધ્યમમક શાળાના ઉચ્ચ સ્તરની સ્િ-મનયંમિત
અધ્યયન પ્રત્યેની તત્પરતા ધરાિતા મિદ્યાર્થીઓની
ટકાિારી સૌર્થી ઓછી (15.65%) હતી. મધ્યમ સ્તરની
સ્િ-મનયંમિત અધ્યયન પ્રત્યેની તત્પરતા ધરાિતાં
મિદ્યાર્થીઓની ટકાિારી (68.56%) સૌર્થી િધ હતી. કલ
84.35% મિદ્યાર્થીઓ મધ્યમ કે મનમ્ન સ્તર (68.56 %
મિદ્યાર્થીઓ મધ્યમ સ્તર અને 15.79 % મિદ્યાર્થીઓ
મનમ્ન સ્તર)ની સ્િ-મનયંમિત અધ્યયન પ્રત્યેની
તત્પરતા ધરાિતાં હતાં.

3. ઉચ્ચ માધ્યમમક શાળાના ઉચ્ચ સ્તરનં માનમસક સ્િાસ્્ય
ધરાિતાં મિદ્યાર્થીઓની ટકાિારી સૌર્થી ઓછી (14.98%) હતી
અને મધ્યમ સ્તરનં માનમસક સ્િાસ્્ય ધરાિતાં મિદ્યાર્થીઓની
ટકાિારી (69.50%) સૌર્થી િધ હતી. કલ 85.42% મિદ્યાર્થીઓ
મધ્યમ કે તેર્થી મનમ્ન સ્તર (69.50 % મિદ્યાર્થીઓ મધ્યમ સ્તર
અને 15.92 % મિદ્યાર્થીઓ મનમ્ન સ્તર)નં માનમસક સ્િાસ્્ય
ધરાિતાં હતાં.

શૈક્ષણિક ફણલતાર્થો
1. પ્રસ્તત સંશોધન દ્વારા ણલકટગ પિમત પર આધાહરત 60
મિધાનો ધરાિતાં ગજરાતી ભાષામાં મિશ્વસનીય અને
યર્થાર્થગ સ્િ-મનયંમિત અધ્યયન તત્પરતા માપદંડની રચના
કરિામાં આિી. તેનો મિમનયોર્ સ્િ-મનયમિત અધ્યયન
સાર્થે સંબંમધત સંશોધન ક્ષેિે અને શૈક્ષણિક સંસ્ર્થાઓમાં
સમયાંતરે મિદ્યાર્થીઓની સ્િ-મનયંમિત અધ્યયન ક્ષમતાને
જાિિા માટે ર્થઈ શકે છે.

2. ઉચ્ચતર માધ્યમમક શાળાના મિદ્યાર્થીઓની સ્િ-મનયંમિત
અધ્યયન પ્રત્યેની તત્પરતાનં સ્તર મધ્યમ કે મનમ્ન જોિા
મળયં હતં. આ તારિ દશાગિે છે કે, મિદ્યાર્થીઓને સ્િ-મનયંમિત
અધ્યયન તત્પરતા પ્રત્યે અણભમખ કરિાની તાતી જરૂર છે.
સ્િ-મનયંમિત અધ્યયન પ્રત્યેની તત્પરતાનં જીિનમાં મહત્િ
શં છે તે સમજાિિા માટે શાળા, કૉલેજ અને યમનિગમસટી
કક્ષાએ મિદ્યાર્થીઓને સ્િ-મનયંમિત અધ્યયન અંર્ેની તાલીમ
પૂરી પાડિી જોઈએ. તે અંતર્ગત મિદ્યાર્થી કે્રી મશક્ષિને
પ્રાધા્ય આપવં અને સહ-અભ્યાસક પ્રવૃમિઓનં આયોજન
કરવં જોઈએ.

3.ઉચ્ચતર માધ્યમમક શાળાના મિદ્યાર્થીઓના માનમસક
સ્િાસ્્યનં સ્તર મધ્યમ કે મનમ્ન જોિા મળયં હતં.
મિદ્યાર્થીઓના માનમસક સ્િાસ્્યનં સ્તર સધારિા
માટે શાળા, કૉલેજ અને યમનિગમસટી કક્ષાએ
જીિનમાં માનમસક સ્િાસ્્યની અર્ત્યતા
સમજાિતાં અસરકારક પ્રયત્નો ર્થિાં જોઈએ.
માનમસક સ્િાસ્્યને ઉચ્ચ સ્તર સધી મિક્નસાિિા
માટે મનષ્િાંતો, માતા-મપતા, િડીલો, સર્ા-
સંબંધીઓ અને મમિોની મદદ પિ ઉપયોર્ી નીિડી
શકે છે.

4. ઉચ્ચતર માધ્યમમક શાળાની ક્યા મિદ્યાર્થીઓ કમાર
મિદ્યાર્થીઓ કરતાં સ્િ-મનયંમિત અધ્યયન પ્રત્યે િધ તત્પર
હતી. એટલે કે, ક્યાઓની તલનામાં કમારોમાં સ્િ-મનયંમિત
અધ્યયન ક્ષમતા ઓછી હતી. આ તારિ દશાગિે છે કે, શૈક્ષણિક
સંસ્ર્થાઓ અને િાલીઓ દ્વારા જીિનમાં સ્િ-મનયંમિત
અધ્યયનનં મહત્િ કમારોને ખાસ સમજાિવં જોઈએ. ઉપરાંત
સ્િ-મનયંમિત અધ્યયન ક્ષમતા મિક્નસે તેિા અનભિો કમારોને
સમિશેષ આપિા જોઈએ. મશક્ષિ ક્ષેિે સંશોધકોએ સ્િ-
મનયંમિત અધ્યયન ક્ષમતા મિકસે તેિો પદ્ધિસરનો કાયગક્રમ
તૈયાર કરીને તેને સંશોધનની પ્રાયોણર્ક પિમતર્થી ચકાસિો
જોઈએ.

5. સ્િ-મનયંમિત અધ્યયન પ્રત્યેની તત્પરતા અને માનમસક
સ્િાસ્્ય િચ્ચે મધ્યમ પ્રકારનો હકારાત્મક સંબંધ હતો.

મહત્િ સમજવં અને તેને લર્તાં કાયગક્રમોમાં ભાર્ીદાર
બનવં જોઈએ. જેર્થી સ્િ-મનયંમિત અધ્યયન પ્રત્યેની
તત્પરતા અને માનમસક સ્િાસ્્ય િચ્ચેનો હકારાત્મક સંબંધ
પિ ટકી રહે અને િધ રઢ બને.

િચ્ચે મધ્યમ પ્રકારનો હકારાત્મક સંબંધ હતો. તેર્થી સ્િ-
મનયંમિત અધ્યયન પ્રત્યેની તત્પરતા અને શૈક્ષણિક મસદ્ધિ
િચ્ચે ઉચ્ચતમ હકારાત્મક સંબંધ પ્રસ્ર્થામપત કરિા માટે
શૈક્ષણિક સંસ્ર્થાઓમાં મિદ્યાર્થીઓની જ્ઞાનાત્મક, અમધજ્ઞાનાત્મક,
પ્રેરિાત્મક જેિી સ્િ-મનયંમિત અધ્યયન વ્યૂહરચનાનો મિકાસ
કરિા માટેની તાલીમ આપિી જોઈએ. મિદ્યાર્થીઓ સ્િયં
શીખતા ર્થાય તે માટેની પ્રેરિા અને તક તેઓને મળી રહે તે
માટેના પ્રયત્નો હાર્થ ધરિાં જોઈએ.

મૂળ કટંબના ઉચ્ચતર માધ્યમમક શાળાના મિદ્યાર્થીઓ કરતાં
િધ સ્િ-મનયંમિત અધ્યયન પ્રત્યેની તત્પરતા ધરાિતાં
હતાં. મશક્ષકો અને િાલીઓએ મિદ્યાર્થીઓને મનિગય લેિામાં,
સમસ્યાનો ઉકેલ મેળિિાં, જિાબદાર બનિાં,અભ્યાસમાં
િડીલોની મદદ, સામાજજક અનકૂલન સાધિા અને જૂર્થ
ભાિના કેળિિા માટે સંયક્નત કટંબની અર્ત્યતા સમજાિિી
જોઈએ. સમયાંતરે િાલીઓએ સંતાનોને સંયક્નત કટંબનો
અનભિ મળી રહે તેિા િાતાિરિનં સર્જન કરવં
જોઈએ, જેર્થી મિદ્યાર્થીઓ િધ સ્િ-મનયંમિત બની શકે.
