Learning
INTRODUCTION
An electronic resources is any information source that the library
provides access to in an electronic format.
The library has purchased subscriptions to many electronic information
resources in order to provide people with access to them free of charge.
The e-resources include lots of things: full text journals, newspapers,
company information, e-books, dictionaries, encyclopedias, economic
data, digital images, industry profiles, market research, career
information etc.
The important e-resources are e-journal, podcasting,
E-learning and web-based learning .
E-journals
E-journals also known as electronic journals, E-journals, and
Electronic serials, are scholarly journals or intellectual magazines that
can be accessed via electronic transmission .In practice, this means that
they are usually published on the web .they are specialized form of
electronic document :they have the purpose of providing material for
academic research and study, and they are formatted approximately like
journal articles in traditional printed journals .many electronic journals
are listed in directories such as the directory of open access journals ,and
the articles indexed in bibliographic database and search engines for the
academic discipline concerned.
Some electronic journals are online only journals; some are online
versions of printed journals, sometimes with extra video and interactive
media material
Most commercial journals are subscription –based, and/or allow pay-
per-view access .many universities subscribe in bulk to packages of
electronic journals, so as to provide access to them to their students and
faculty .it is generally also possible for individuals to purchase an annual
subscription to journal from the original publisher .
2. PODCASTING
A podcast is a form of digital media that consist of an episodic series
of audio or digital radio, subscribed to and downloaded through web
syndication or streamed online to a computer or mobile device .the word
is portmanteau of “pod” and “broadcast”. A list of all audio or video
files associated with a given series is maintained centrally on the
distributer’s server as a web feed, and the listener or viewer use.
Podcasting is the preparation and distribution of audio files
using RSS to the computers of subscribed users .these files may then be
uploaded to digital music or multimedia players like the iPods. A pod
caste can be easily created from a digital audio file. The podcaster first
saves the file as an mp3 and the upload it to the website of a service
provider. The mp3 file gets its own URL which is inserted in to an RSS
XML document as an enclosure within an XML tag.
E-learning
The term E-learning is derived from ‘electronic learning ‘and refers to
technology based learning or the ’electronic’ delivery of learning .it
covers a wide range of distributed knowledge applications and processes
,including computer based learning ,web based learning ,virtual
classrooms ,and digital collaboration .Thus, e-learning includes the
delivery of content via all electronic media ,including the internet,
intranets ,extranets, satellite, broadcast, audio or video tapes, interactive
TV, and CD rom. the term online learning ,although sometimes used
interchangeably with e-learning ,it refers more precisely to web based
learning, which constitutes just one part of the technology based learning
spectrum: learning via internet.
E-learning is a combination of learning services and technology to
provide high quality integrated learning at anytime and anyplace. It
result from anew blend of resources ,interactivity ,performance and
structured learning activities .the methodology followed in e-learning
makes use of various technologies to enhance the quality of the learning
process, by helping full realization of the educational objectives aimed at
and by catering to the needs of more diverse learner population with
minimal expenditure
Web-based learning
Web based –learning has got much attention as being an incredible
opportunity to study nowadays .Despite of its popularity the notion still
remains unclear and confusing .Web-based learning is one way to learn,
using web-based technologies or tools in a learning process. In other
words, learner uses mainly computers to interact with the teacher, other
students and learning material .web-based learning consist of
technology that supports traditional classroom training and online
learning environments.”Pure” web based courses are wholly based on
computer and online possibilities. In this case all the communication and
learning activities and done online .on the other hand, web based courses
may have some face –to-face sessions besides the distant learning task.
In this case they are called blended courses as they blend web-based
activities with face –to –face activities
Web-based learning can be also formal or informal .formal web-based
learning is purposed and learning activities organized by teachers
Informal learning takes place while the people searching material from
the internet.
CONCLUSION
