Poetry is a literary medium which often resonates with the responder on a personal level, through the subject matter of the poem; the techniques are used to portray this study. Robert Frost utilizes many techniques to convey his respect for nature, which consequently makes much of his poetry relevant to the everyday person. His poetry deals with ordinary people, including farmers and workers of his age. Because of his unfeigned interest in and love for rural people, Frost emerged ultimately as a national bard and a poetic sage of America. On the surface, “Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening” focuses on a seemingly unimportant event of the poet stopping one winter evening, mesmerized by the snow and the wood. However, at a figurative level, the poem goes deeper connecting with the people’s everyday life. The poet portrays the universal images that every man thinks about his life what he has done on earth, or through the ordinary situations. A village farmer couple is the protagonist of the poem through whom the psychology of common people are impacted on his writings. The dilemma of a simple stranger shows the psychological conflicts of the contemporary age as reflected in “The Road Not Taken.” In the poem, “Mending Wall,” the difference of opinion of two neighbors can be interpreted at national or international level. Thus this paper examines very familiar issues of the common people of the poet’s age.

101 Great American Poems
An Annual Of New Poetry
10. • The author was having a terrible day and was in
a bad mood. He was standing near a hemlock tree
which was poisonous.
• A crow which must have perched upon the snow
laden hemlock tree happened to sprinkle some
snow dust on him.
• The falling of the snow on his head lifted his
mood instantly and his sad and depressive mood
changed into an elated one due to the crow and
the hemlock tree
• Nature has healing and curing power.
• Small events in a person’s life can have a larger
significance.
• One should hope for the best even in the worst
situations.
11. • The poem ‘Dust of Snow’ by Robert Frost is a simple
and short poem, yet with a deeper and larger
meaning. The poet explains how an act as petty or
simple as experiencing snow on one’s body can
brighten one’s day. The two agents of nature, the
hemlock tree and the crow are signifiers of sadness
and gloom.
• The crow, a black, dark creature, has an evil
foreboding and is a symbol of fear, doom and death.
• The poet has also chosen hemlock tree ,associated
with poison and death as hemlock was the poison
used to kill the great philosopher Socrates.
• However, the poet has cleverly used these symbols
or bad omens to signify that inauspicious things can
bring joy and happiness, too.
• Thus the poem teaches us a lesson that we must not take things for granted but should
be open and accept whichever way nature chooses to bless us.
12. • Robert Frost’s poem ‘Fire and Ice’ expresses
the profound idea of two groups who have their
own possible explanation that the world would
end in either of the two ways, by fire or by ice.
• Both fire (DESIRE) as well as ice (HATRED) are
just as competent in bringing the world to a
fateful end.
• The poet believes personally that ‘fiery
desires’ are capable of bringing human beings
on the verge of destruction.
• Then he thinks that if the world were to end
twice, then ‘icy hatred’ would be just as capable
of ruining humans, though slowly but steadily.
• Nothing in the world is eternal.
Everything will be consumed either
by fire of desire or by ice of hatred.
• Unbridled passions and desires
can cause the end of the world.
-
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
• Even hatred born out of cold and icy reasons is
sufficient to cause destruction and end the world
13. Fire and Ice’ is one of the most popular and
symbolic poems of Robert Frost.
• In this poem, Frost refers to two predictions
of how the world would end.
• It discusses the end of the world, as a result
of fire or ice. The poet has likened the
elemental force of fire with the emotion of
desire and of ice with hatred.
• The poem, very artistically, underpins the
philosophy that if we don’t control our
emotions and let them rule us then they would
bring the world to a catastrophic end.
.
The speaker’s experience of desire and hatred has taught him that emotions like
desire and lust have power to bring the world to a fiery end. But he also knows that
colder emotions like hatred also have great destructive power of making the world
freeze to its end
14. It is evident that the works of Robert Frost
are unique and has hence drawn attention of a
significant number of people due to their
content.
To many he is a source of inspiration.
Although the writings and poems have not
been without critics, it is clear that they have
attracted a significant readership and most of
them adore his works as they draw comfort in
the meaning they deduce from the work
especially poetry.
This is because Frost was able to
incorporate almost every aspect that happens
in our day to day lives more especially in the
rural setting.
Despite the comlexity of his poems his implied message is rather simple. Frost
clarified human's eagerness to finding a meaning to life and an essential
background and reason to events, regardless of how small and insignificant they
might be.
