Alfred Hajos National Swimming Complex

Sports: Swimming, Diving, Water Polo
The	number	1	venue	in	Hungary	for	aquatic	competitions.	The	complex	was	created	by	the	first	
Hungarian Olympic Gold Medalist, Alred Hajos. It is located on Margaret Island along the beauti-
ful Danube River as well as is surrounded by a lucious green landscape. The complex is vast and
consists	of	4	floors	and	8	pools.	The	venue	is	80,000	square	meters	and	includes	training	pools,	a	
diving pool and competitive swimming for short and long course races. The complex consists of
1 indoor pool and 3 outdoor pools. The inside holds a 33m long pool and training pool, while the
outside has two 50m long course pools, a 30m pool and training pools. The venue also has a sauna,
buffet	and	restaurant.	The	stadium	was	home	to	the	European	Aquatics	Championships	in	both	
2006 and 2010. It is also home to the Hungarian national waterpolo and swimming team. The ven-
ue is easily accessible by metro or bus.

The Stadion Puskas Ferenc is a venue of pride and identity for Hungarian people as seen by its
former name, “Stadium of the People.” The complex has a long history of hosting great competi-
tiors and in 2002 was named after Ferenc Puskas a member of the Hungarian national soccer team
that defeated the English national team. The arena is located east of central Budapest and is only
a kilometer from Budapest Keleti central railway station. The stadium is easily accessible by taking
public transportation, the Metro 2, which runs from the city’s historic center eastward or by car.
There	are	nearby	hotels	that	are	also	convenient	and	affordable.	The	stadium	is	the	largest	one	in	
all of Hungary at 108 x 68 meters. As well as is the home of the Hungarian national soccer team.
The stadium includes both grass and tartan track surfaces and the potential to accommodate
83,000 people. The building has 2 locker rooms, 5 dressing rooms, a pool, workout stations and
showers and can cater to 100 people.

The Papp-Laszlo Sport arena is a multi-functional venue, used for both artistic
performances as well as athletic competitions. It is located on the Pest side of
the capital just east of downtown Budapest. The beautiful arena includes 8
buffets and 10 cloakrooms, as well as is wheelchair accessible built with wide
corridors and large elevators. The complex also offers emergency services.
The venue is easily accessible by public transportation by metro or trolley. It is
located close to the Budapest Ferihegyi Airport as well as other sporting
venues during games. There is free-parking with 1160 spaces available, as well
as has a separate entrance for special guests/the athletes. The arena also has
a private entrance for VIP.

Sport: Basketball
The Kisstadion stadium is located in the Olympic centre
of the city. It has been used predominantly by hockey
players in the past but will be used for men’s and wom-
en’s basketball teams during the games. The venue is
accessible by public transportation as well as by car and
has parking in the front. The complex has already been a
host of both international and national competitions.

Sport: Beach Volleyball
The largest park in Budapest and first
Public Park ever, stretches close to the
city center with its main entrance at
Heroes’ square. The park is amongst
attractions such as the Vajdahunyad
castle and the statue of Anonymous.
With a layout similar to London 2012,
the beach volleyball courts will have
stadium seating on either side of the
venue. The artificial lake will be
drained and center court will be in
front of the castle. The scenery sur-
rounding the new complex will be
exquisite.

    2.9 THEME 9:Sport and Venues Alfred Hajos National Swimming Complex 1138 Budapest, Margaret Island Capacity: 2000 Sports: Swimming, Diving, Water Polo The number 1 venue in Hungary for aquatic competitions. The complex was created by the first Hungarian Olympic Gold Medalist, Alred Hajos. It is located on Margaret Island along the beauti- ful Danube River as well as is surrounded by a lucious green landscape. The complex is vast and consists of 4 floors and 8 pools. The venue is 80,000 square meters and includes training pools, a diving pool and competitive swimming for short and long course races. The complex consists of 1 indoor pool and 3 outdoor pools. The inside holds a 33m long pool and training pool, while the outside has two 50m long course pools, a 30m pool and training pools. The venue also has a sauna, buffet and restaurant. The stadium was home to the European Aquatics Championships in both 2006 and 2010. It is also home to the Hungarian national waterpolo and swimming team. The ven- ue is easily accessible by metro or bus.

The arena is located east of central Budapest and is only a kilometer from Budapest Keleti central railway station. The stadium is easily accessible by taking public transportation, the Metro 2, which runs from the city’s historic center eastward or by car. There are nearby hotels that are also convenient and affordable. The stadium is the largest one in all of Hungary at 108 x 68 meters. As well as is the home of the Hungarian national soccer team.
