Barbara Jardin is a 23-year-old Canadian Olympic swimmer who was recently diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. She is crowdfunding $8,000 to cover the costs of managing her diabetes through insulin pumps and medications so she can continue training and competing, with the goal of making the 2016 Olympic team in Rio. After an initial period of denial about her diagnosis, Jardin has started receiving treatment and learning how to balance her diabetes management with an intense training schedule. She hopes to inspire other athletes living with diabetes by continuing her swimming career.
