The Old Testament tells the story of God's promise of a coming savior to save his people. It describes how God delivered the Israelites from slavery in Egypt and provided for them through miracles. Although the people disobeyed God's laws, he promised to make things right again. The books provide guidance on how to live and please God, as well as addressing why bad things happen. They also promise that a new leader will bring wonderful things when God sends him. God used prophets to warn the people to obey or face punishment, and to share the promise of a future king and nation.
