This picture was the oil pan fill plug on my truck. None of the techs I spoke with ever heard of using a torque wrench on an oil pan plug. I found out the manufacturer recommended one, 10 ft Lbs. The techs told me they have seen plenty of these "defected" plugs lately. The source change the head of the plug from 16mm to 13mm so people will not apply too much torque without a torque wrench. Ever wondered about the true cause of a failure mode? Please give me your comments.
