Placemaking is an important part of many day-to-day work activities across various disciplines, but it is often unrecognized. There are natural choices for placemaking based on prior decisions and existing focuses, but local empowerment and ownership are key to truly making places. While the city has limited direct ability to make individual places, locals must take initiative to shape their own areas. Currently, there is no specific strategic priority or support allocated to placemaking activities by the city. The places within the city vary significantly in their scale and significance, from regions to neighborhoods.
