Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

When I was fourteen years old, my great–grandmother had an ischemic stroke and struggled with
Broca's Aphasia until she passed away seven months later. What she left me with, however, was a
gift greater than anything of monetary value: passion for the healthcare field. For months prior to
her death, I watched her devote her life to redeeming her expressive language. I was inspired
tremendously by her gallantry and decided that I wanted to make a difference in the lives of
others. However, when I was applying to colleges, I chose nursing because it was what my parents
suggested I pursue as a career. After coming to college with the anticipation of graduating with a
degree in nursing, I was disappointed when, after two years of school, I realized...show more

Ever since I can remember, I have been devoted to bringing out the best in others, and being able
to work in tandem with anyone no matter what the situation. Enabling others to gain something
that they could not previously do, or regain something that was lost to them due to an unfortunate
event in their lives, would bring me immense satisfaction. Not only would I be successful in this
profession because making the world better for others is my lifelong goal, but because I am
certain the skill sets I possess are fundamental to being a prosperous Speech Pathologist. Over the
course of my undergraduate studies, I have truly learned any and everything I could about this
profession and it's most critical concepts. For me, rote memorization was not an option. I made it
my utmost responsibility to learn and understand the material that was presented to me in order to
better the lives of my future clients. I have a strong educational background that has led to my
dexterity in social skills, critical and cognitive thinking abilities, and the ability to solve problems
and help others when they are in need. All of these qualities make the difference between someone
who begins a graduate program in Speech–Language Pathology, and someone who finishes one and
becomes an outstanding

From my own experiences in hospital I have a lot of admiration for nurses. The nurses were
always caring and gentle towards myself and other patients even when it is clear their work was
demanding. Their passion for the job was clear to see and I want to be part of this dedicated
profession.
In school biology has always been my favourite subject. The human body fascinates me and I
have always been eager to learn more about how it functions. I feel this interest is one of the main
driving forces for choosing nursing as a career. I'm looking forward to the challenge that university
will offer. Another reason why I have chosen nursing as my topic of study is this year I am
undertaking a college course in 'care'. In the course I have looked...show more content...

I have never been scared of hard work. I had my first job at 13 at my local grocery store and have
been working ever since. I have done various jobs, I have been a cleaner, a waitress and a quality
checker at a jewellery factory. Each job was different and I had to adapt to make sure I was
working to the best of my ability, which I managed with ease. From these jobs I have gained social
skills, organisation skills, creativity and responsibility.
I am very passionate about caring for and working with others in the future. I know that I will do
well in this course because I am determined to become a nurse and expand my knowledge of the

The committee should choose me for the reason that I will be diligent and study earnestly for that
spot. What I can offer to the program includes my distinguishable qualities such as empathy,
calmness, decisiveness, and critical thinking. The reason I chose to major in Nursing is for my
passion for working in the medical field and impacting people lives. I would like to believe if
given the opportunity to be in the nursing program; I will complete the tasks that are required of me
for myself and my family's sake. Another essential point is that I am a first generation college
student, I struggled both academically and emotionally during my first year at Commerce. However,
with my determination paired with dedication, I confronted various obstacles and prevailed to

When I asked my father about his emotions after his heart surgery, he stated that the number one
person who made him feel comfortable during his hospital stay was the nurse who visited him daily
to ensure he was well–taken care of. The nurse supported him in one of the most vulnerable
moments of his life. Two qualities he could recall from the nurse: her empathy and her overall
pleasant character. I consider myself an ambivert which is useful for moments where listening is a
priority while simultaneously taking on the role of a supporter if applicable. To be an
approachable, knowledgeable registered nurse is not only a goal of mine, it is a dream that

I am a product of the people, places and events that have touched my life. As a child, my grandpa
taught me the love of reading as I listened to endless hours of stories on his lap. This has been a
great benefit to me in my studies. It has helped me broaden my vocabulary and enhanced my
writing skills. My strong work ethic and determination are a result of watching my father start up
and run his own business as well as work on things for our family. I was able to maintain two jobs,
working 15 hours a week, during high school while upholding a high GPA. I have worked
diligently in school to get good grades because I know the sacrifice my parents have made to send
me to Catholic school. My grandma taught me patience and compassion through her work with
special needs students and has inspired me to model these traits myself. This has led me to complete

I have always had compassion for others and have wanted to help when I can. When my mother
and other family members have been in the hospital I have seen first hand the impact that a nurse
can have on a patient's day. This inspires me to pursue a career where I have the opportunity to
have an impact on someone's life daily. I plan to go to UNL for my undergraduate studies and then
continue on at UNMC for my degree in nursing. This spring I am planning on getting my CNA and
start building my job experience in this field. Ultimately, I would like to continue my education to
become a Physician's Assistant or a Nurse Practitioner. My travels around the U.S., Mexico, and
Europe have created a desire to continue traveling and to experience different cultures, specifically to
study abroad and further my education in Spanish. In the future, after I become a nurse, I have

I attained my Bachelor's Degree in Nursing in 1999. Throughout my career as a nurse I have
never stopped gaining knowledge and experience to excel in our profession. After working for a
total of fifteen years, I am now ready to seek a more advanced nursing education. Due to the
school's strong clinical focus, a well–organized, thorough curriculum, and a truly supportive faculty,
I wish to pursue a degree in Master of Science in Nurse Anesthesia at your prestigious institution. I
began working in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in 2009 at the UCSD–Thornton Hospital. It was a
great privilege to work with a team who could handle the most complex patient situations. I was
extraordinarily fortunate to be trained by and worked alongside with intelligent, knowledgeable,
and supportive nurses. This experience helped me realize my potential as a critical care nurse, and
my great passion for it! In 2012, I worked at the Florida Hospital Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU). I

Both were excellent, confident, bright and vigilant. Hana managed two cases of Coronary Artery
Bypass Graft (CABG) flawlessly, while Kawanna handled five general surgery cases. In the holding
area, I observed them perform a thorough history and physical assessment, and asked pertinent
questions in order to build a concrete plan of management. Reassuring their patients came naturally
by answering all their questions and informing them of what to expect from their anesthesia care. In
the OR they carried out their anesthesia plan effortlessly with mastery and accuracy while keeping
the patient safe and tightly monitored. These experiences provided much opportunity to understand
what a day in the life of a CRNA entails. Thus, I started preparing myself more intensively by sitting
for the TOEFL and GRE tests. Furthermore, I started looking at schools more stringently and more
