Editor's Notes

  • #2 Hello, my name is Kimberly and today I will discuss Safety and Quality Outcomes and sustainable practices.
  • #3 My job as a nursing leader involves planning for the safety and quality outcomes. To improve the knowledge and attention of the management towards the safety issues and quality improvement, the plan regarding emergency rooms re-admissions and costs is vital to share and implement in the organization to help it become a high-performing unit (Recio‐Saucedo, 2018). The plan was to reduce re-admission rates in emergency departments EDs and apply the appropriate metrics to improve the quality and safety of pateints suffering from diabetes type 2 problems. Moreover, the plan also summarizes the integration and utilization of technology tools to improve the organizational commitment and efficiency of nurses and administrators. Despite some knowledge gaps, the nurses are suggested t improve their research skills and gain more knowledge about IT tools from professionals and trainings. This aims to reduce the gap between their actual performance and the use of technology.
  • #4 Despite some knowledge gaps, the nurses are suggested t improve their research skills and gain more knowledge about IT tools from professionals and trainings. This aims to reduce the gap between their actual performance and the use of technology.
  • #5  Following our goal of improving the patient safety in the emergency department, the policy of our hospital is to consult and follow the guidelines provided by the CDC. These rules and frameworks can assist our professionals and nurses to reduce patients’ risks of type 2 diabetes. The most important policy is to follow an educational goal for nurses to teach them to become knowledgeable about human errors and admissions management The most important policy is to follow an educational goal for nurses to teach them to become knowledgeable about human errors and admissions management. This involves incorporating evidence-based practices and theories and frameworks to decrease the percentage of surgery patients with surgical complications in EDs. Moreover, this also aims to reduce patient falls after surgery and the length of stay LOS in the hospital.
  • #6  Using evidence-based practices, our DNP nurses also planned policies and strategies and informed the executive directors’ team to facilitate them with all the support and leadership to reduce and control human and medical errors. These issues include inaccuracies regarding the EHR. The electronic software policy was formed to assist diabetes patients provide accurate feedback to our teams to raise safety concerns (McCarthy et al., 2019).
  • #7 This includes improving the culture of our organization and promoting cleanliness to ensure sanitary operations as well for better health outcomes. Another policy function was to ensure safety rules throughout the organization by enabling nurses to quickly respond to patient calls and alarms. This was made possible by installing a call button near patient beds. The John Hopkins Medicine Center, Untied States also suggests using safety checklists for ensuring pateints safety. This will reduce dozens of medical errors during a month and can save patients from the harms of wrong medications. Moreover, the policy functions also include improving the appointment schedules for pateints of diabetes to give them priority over normal patients of fever and pain. The only point of uncertainty was that nurses must alter their behavior to follow the rules of new policies and learn new skills to train their minds to be more collaborative and communicative; this will ensure leadership skills’ learning in nurses.
  • #8  Since the nurses predicted many performance gaps in the organization, there are associated interventions related to safety and quality outcomes for the organization which are core element of success. This involves tracking national trends regarding effective monitoring and treatment of diabetes type 2 and helping nurses to comply with the recommended screening mechanisms This means that nurses must adhere to the latest developed policies and strategies and must not shy to share the details with patients and supervisors. This can increase the use of Randomized control trials as suggested by the study of Kalánková (2020) to safety determine safety outcomes and mitigating the risk of medical and human errors. Our nurses’ investigation show that the most important outcome related to safety of patients is safety experience and timeliness of care. This vital element or the outcome is measured by our organization to calculate the overall safety and quality of performance of nurses. This means that the professionals must improve the understanding of providing information about the interventions in all circumstances.
  • #9 The John Hopkins Medicine Center, Untied States also suggests using safety checklists for ensuring pateints safety. This will reduce dozens of medical errors during a month and can save patients from the harms of wrong medications. Moreover, the policy functions also include improving the appointment schedules for pateints of diabetes to give them priority over normal patients of fever and pain. . The only point of uncertainty was that nurses must alter their behavior to follow the rules of new policies and learn new skills to train their minds to be more collaborative and communicative; this will ensure leadership skills’ learning in nurses.
  • #10  Nurses can help to create a culture of safety and collaboration that can match with the future vision of the organization to develop a sustainable culture through safety and quality improvement initiatives. As nurses, our responsibility is to create a safety culture within our hospital to maintain safe lines of communication and collaboration. This can happen by creating work habits by utilizing evidence-based practices (EBPs) and participating in the shared governance mechanisms to optimize safety outcomes (Brauner et al., 2018). This can happen with a policy or strategy of promoting open communication with colleagues. If nurses observe any unprofessional criticism or gossiping, they must blow the whistle for mitigating toxicity at workplace. Moreover, they must refrain from any unprofessional communication and improve their verbal and non-verbal communication skills. This will give colleagues an opportunity to be more aware of their communication and leadership styles.
  • #11  Another strategy to create a sustainable future vision of collaboration and safety is to promote and encourage shared governance across all departments. Workgroups must be actively involved in shared governance committees and identify safety risks. Nurses can also lead by example and also become role models for junior and younger nurses. They can verbalize their teams strongly by using standardized shift reporting methods to reduce communication errors (Akram, 2018). This will help them to become stronger safety advocates for patients through strong interprofessional collaboration. This will bring the culture of safety and quality and help nurses to understand its importance.
  • #12  This means that leadership qualities like rewarding culture-building and humility and integrity can help nurses to take appreciate actions to curb unethical behaviors and reduce the risk of ethical decline in organizations. Ethical leadership ensures that nurses encourage and support open expression of ethical concerns to improve safety and quality. Nurses should create ethical committees to discuss leadership skills and establish anonymous mechanisms to encourage employees interested in whistle blowing. by Dempsey& Assai(2018) states that transformational leadership for nurses is extremely crucial in these uncertain times for ensuring high quality care outcomes and safety environments. Many instances in the hospital have declared lack of leadership competencies in nurses. Leadership skills can be used to experience significant improvement in quality-of-care goals and ethical practices (Dempsey & Assai, 2018).
  • #13 In today’s complex environment, nurse leaders fail to or struggle to achieve the complex goal of safety and quality. In our fast-paced healthcare environment where the hospital lacks culture of patient safety, nurses must understand the driving forces and evidence-based practices to understand their leadership roles to enhance safety cultures. This implies that our organization must compare our safety and quality records with other organizations and promote safety focused attitudes in nurses. This implies that our organization must compare our safety and quality records with other organizations and promote safety focused attitudes in nurses. The study by McCarthy (2019) explains that culture shift can move towards safety and quality when nurse’s leaders are focused on improving their skills related to motivation, leader, evidence-based practices, communication, and e-learning. Moreover, according to the revised social policy of the American Nursing Association ANA must be followed by nurses. This statement suggests nurses to be pivotal and use their knowledge to improve the status of public safety by leading from the front. Therefore, nurses’ leaders play a role to demonstrate safety improvements and also look forward for rounding by other leaders.
