Subject: Mr. Alessio Nebbia Colomba
Alessio Nebbia Colomba received his MSc Degree (Laurea Magistrale) in Nuclear Engineering at the
University of Pisa and I was one of his tutors in the related thesis work.
In the framework of his master thesis, he performed an internship at the Belgian Nuclear Research
Center (SCK•CEN, Mol, Belgium), for the period of: September 15, 2014 - April 15, 2015.
During this period in Belgium, he developed a work entitled “Design and numerical simulation of a
lead oxide mass exchanger for oxygen control in liquid lead bismuth coolant nuclear reactor”.
The work was related to the application of CFD tools in support to the design of an oxygen control
system for the heavy liquid metal cooled reactor "MYRRHA".
This work gave the opportunity to Mr. Nebbia Colomba to gain a good experience in dealing with
chemistry and thermal-hydraulic problems of Gen IV reactors cooled by heavy liquid metals, as well
as to gain experience with practical engineering issues.
In performing the work, Mr. Nebbia Colomba proved a remarkable capability to cope with new
problems and serious commitment in carrying out the assigned tasks, elaborating and proposing his
own ideas under the guidance of tutors.
Our group members also appreciated Alessio for his organizational skills and friendly attitude.
On the basis of the experience he gained in his thesis work and of my knowledge of his personal
qualities, I can state that Mr. Nebbia Colomba has qualified himself as a promising researcher and
engineer in the field of nuclear energy.
Sincerely,
Alessandro Marino, PhD.
