This document provides a list of horses to follow based on performances in November along with details about each horse. It highlights four horses: Ballyandy, a 4-year-old gelding that won impressively at Cheltenham and could target the Neptune Hurdle; Ttebbob, a 6-year-old gelding that made a very impressive chasing debut at Thurles; Winnermassagot, a 4-year-old gelding that won well at Ascot and may still be handicapped to win more races; and Velvet Maker, a 6-year-old gelding that was impressive in his chasing debut at Naas and could compete in competitive novice chases against horses from Ireland and the

Theyare all young:None isovereightyearsof age andall are relativelyunexposedintheir
chosendiscipline,hopefullywith(plentyof) improvementtocome.Atthe veryleastIwould
expectanet increase inthe handicapmarksof the 22 selectionsinthislist
Theyhave all run quickly: Icompose speedfiguresformostrace meetingsinthe UKand
Ireland.Atsome pointeveryone of the selectionsonthis listhasputup a ‘fasterthanrace
class’time andin some cases,the selectionhasputupseveral suchfigures
Theyare all winners:Crucial thatan animal knowswhere the winningpostisandhasthe
guts andresolutiontostickitsneckout at the businessendof a race
In myjudgementtheyare withatrainerwhocan maximise the potentialof the horse be it
withcannyplacementinraces,preparingthe horse togive itsbestor puttingitin the hands
of the rightjockeywhen‘expected’(hopefullyall three).
Whilstas faras the jumpsseasonisconcerned,‘all roadsleadtoCheltenham’ thesemay or maynot
endup at PrestburyParkinmid-March,but I’mmore concernedwiththempoppingupat decent
odds– whichinmy case meansgreaterthan 3/1 as I cannotwork out‘value’atodds lowerthanthat
- somewhere thisseason.
BALLYANDY
4-y-o gelding,Nigel Twiston-Davies,OptionsOSyndicate
Won the bumperat Cheltenhamon the Sundayof the PaddyPowermeeting like aclasshorse,from
a fieldfull of previouswinners. AfterwardsTwiston-Daviessaiditwouldbe 50:50 whetherhe
continuesinBumpersorgoeshurdlingandhe's25/1 for the Festival Bumper. Now,loadsof ifshere,
whichshouldbe reflectedinhisprice anda stake but floatwithme a while here….
If he doesgo hurdlingyou'dhave tothinkitwouldbe the Neptune he'dbe aimedat,givenhisstyle
of racing.It's alsoa race where Twiston-Davieshas'previous'(Gaelstrom,Fundamentalist,The New
One). He thinksthe worldof thishorse so won'trush him, butif there'sany indicationhurdlingisthe
intendedroute thisseason,acheekyenquirywithabookmakerortwofora price forthe Neptune
mightbe interesting.

I can’t pronounce iteitherbutnoworries,aslongas you can spell itforthe bettingslip. Youcould
say he had a facile win ina BeginnersChase 2m2f at Thurlesonsoftground,withthe Mullins-trained
favourite pullingupearlyandhisstablemate fallingatthe second,howeverTtebbobmade all,
jumpedlike astagfor the most part and‘fiddled’thosehe didn’tmeetona goodstride like anold
pro. He was triedat all distancesupto 3 milesasa hurdlersoisclearlyversatile asregardstripand
he couldn’thave beenmore impressive,bothvisuallyandagainstthe clockonhischasingdebutand
2. as he is witha trainerwhowill place himtobesteffect,he lookstohave a genuinelyexcitingfuture,
withchasingdefinitelyhisforte.
WINNERMASSAGOT
4-y-o gelding,AlanKing,Masterson HoldingsLimited
You couldtake the viewthathis winningthe 2-mile0-145 handicaphurdle,worth£12,500 onthe
Fridayat Ascot’s‘1965 Chase’meeting,was the planfora horse so clearlywell handicapped,but
that wouldunderestimatethisperformance, the horse andhistrainer. Thiswasonlyhisfifthstart
underrulesandthe accelerationhe showedatthe businessendof thisrace,onsoftground.He
raced off a mark of only123 here butwas thoughtgoodenoughtocompete inthe Grade One
juvenilehurdleatAintree lastseason.Onthisevidenceevenahike uptothe mid 130’s isstill behind
whathe iscapable of,withonlythe sightquestionmarkasto hisabilitytooperate left-handed(3
runs 3 lossesasopposedto2 from2 right-handed) preventing the worldfromunquestioninglybeing
hisoysterat thisstage of hiscareer.
VELVET MAKER

Secondlastinthe Supreme Novices’Hurdle,milesbehindDouvan andsentoff at40/1 thatday,
there waslittle tosuggesthe wouldbe a majorplayerthisseasonin2-mile novice chases.Thatall
changedafterhisdebutat Naas,slamminghisrivalsafterjumpingandgallopingthemsilly.Yesthe
2-mile novice chase divisionisverycompetitivebothinIreland(Douvan,SizingJohnandpreviously-
highlightedKittenRock) andthe UK (Vaniteaux,Garde La Victoire,BristolDe Mai) and he may well
have beatenporkhere,butthiswasquick,spectacularvisuallyandhe appears toact on any ground.
Furthermore,he’sfromanunfashionable stable,whichmaywell be worthanextrapointor twoon
hisoddswhentakingon the (inevitable) tougheroppositionoverthe comingmonths
