Many look out longingly toward another life, in
which they implicitly believe, yet of which they
can know nothing save in the dimmest, most
shadowy way. Loved ones are taken from them
into that strange land, and they long then more
than ever to know about the country that is the
new home of their friends — its beauty, its joys,
its fellowships, its occupations. The Bible does
not lift the veil, but it gives many glimpses of the
heavenly life. It is the purpose of this little book
to note some of these glimpses.

This document is an introduction to the book "Quiet Talks on Home Ideals" which discusses ideals related to home, family, and relationships. It provides context for the book, explaining that it aims to address a need for guidance on these topics as indicated by letters and inquiries the authors received from a wide range of people. The introduction outlines the structure of the book, which discusses ideals at different stages of life from forming relationships to raising children. It notes that the book's message is one that takes two people working together to discuss and achieve these ideals.
1) The author recalls practicing bike riding with her daughter in the park and experiencing a "grief burst" when her daughter said "on your left" to another person, which reminded her of recently resigning from her beloved teaching job due to the pandemic.
2) The issue of the literary pamphlet explores themes of grief and loss through contributions from many long-time teachers.
3) The author thanks the contributors for teaching her about love, loss, and reflection through their writings.

As practising artists - Rosie as a writer, Marc as a painter and composer - we were excited about working together on a project which would let us convey our passion and conviction about the transforming power of creativity. Between April and October 2009, we ran small weekly groups at Bridport Arts Centre, Dorset, devising exercises and activities to trigger the imagination and encourage new ideas and skills. We wanted to create a safe environment where people could experiment and explore with words and images in ways they had not done before, using the natural world as a stimulus and subject matter, sometimes involving walks to woods and on the coast.
Our main purpose was to catalyse inner change, to enable everyone to take hold of his or her own creativity in a positive way. Since this process was more important than results, we encouraged practices to loosen and inspire, such as associative writing or drawing with the eyes closed. And we were delighted so many participants described their experiences as liberating and affirming, freeing them from conventional expectations and inner critics and letting them view their lives from new angles and perspectives. Sharing work, talking and relating together also built self-acceptance, confidence and trust. We later progressed to more sustained pieces, including a personal `tree of life' design.
The outcome of this has been art and writing of remarkable quality, some of which we are presenting in this volume. Poems, prose fragments, pencil and charcoal sketches, paintings, photographs, stained glass, 3-D, textile and paper work, all evidence of the remarkable inventiveness latent within everyone. And between the lines, making them all the more valuable to us, are the moving personal stories, the compassion and humour we also shared together. Indeed, the fact that all this work was done in the midst of people's struggles with huge inner and outer challenges - stress, depression, bereavement, anxiety, panic, job loss, ill-health - confirms our belief not only in the power of art but in its sheer necessity on our human journey.
All the work is reproduced anonymously, but with the artists' permission.
REACH Dorset developed from an initial partnership between Bridport Arts Centre and Bridport Medical Centre that was brought about by Alex Coulter and the regional REACH initiative. We are deeply grateful to them and to Arts Council England South West, Dorset Primary Care Trust, Dorset Mental Health Forum and all the course participants who made REACH Dorset possible. The original project groups are now continuing their creative journeys independently, successfully demonstrating a sustainable legacy for REACH Dorset. We hope this volume will help foster more projects of this kind inspiring REACH Dorset members and others to continue working creatively as a major step towards well-being.
Rosie Jackson & Marc Yeats
This story describes a walk through Canada taken by God. During the walk, God admires His creation across the land from sea to sea and river to ends of earth. He smells incense and hears singing, dancing, and calls of His name from scattered fires. God delights in the Rocky Mountains, prairies, lakes, and oil towers pointing to the sky. He sees fires have spread and smiles at two men working to bring unity. God's eyes scan the Great Lakes and Saint Lawrence Seaway before landing in Toronto, a place where many come to meet the Loving Father.
The document describes a day when the author felt extremely positive emotions and attributes. They felt liberated, sacred, fearless, resplendent, towering, passionate, and in perfect harmony with their environment. Most importantly, it was the day they first fell in love with someone else after meeting several years ago, when their hearts bonded and they stared into each other's eyes as if nothing else existed.
The document is a poem describing the speaker's retreat from the world in a small hut near the sea. It discusses the simple construction of the hut and its peaceful natural surroundings, including a nearby stream and forest. The speaker finds solace in the natural beauty, particularly the sea which provides a connection to memories of home. When storms arrive, the sounds of nature take on a more ominous tone. The speaker reflects on past loves and losses, and hopes for a future where good ultimately triumphs over evil. The retreat provides refuge from the troubles of the outside world and an opportunity for spiritual reflection.
The speaker recalls wandering through forests and fields as their mind explored nature's beauty, from cold streams lined with moss to the mysteries of twilight. They remember winter hibernation as a time of reflection and find community by gathering around a fire with others, sharing love and connection that touches souls. The passage depicts a place of refuge and belonging for all people to feel like children in a mother's loving arms, which the author calls "the God place" and their home.
This document is a summary of a collection of poems by William A. Quayle about nature. It describes the table of contents which lists 22 poems with titles related to nature such as "A Gust of Wonder", "On the Banks of the Delaware", and "Dandelions". The summary then provides a brief excerpt from the first poem "A Gust of Wonder" where the narrator describes driving through the countryside in June and coming across a surprising sight of dwarf prairie roses blooming among red clover.
The document contains several poems and short stories on various themes:
1) A poem about Saint Jerome depicts the saint eternally kneeling in penitence.
2) A poem suggests Shakespeare's characters like Hamlet and Lady Macbeth may have benefited from antidepressants.
3) A poem envisions a utopian world where gods of different religions coexist harmoniously.
4) Two sonnets - one questions the depth of a lover's affection, the other desires dreamless sleep.
5) Short stories include Barbie dolls dealing with a melted pink sofa and sibling rivalry.
The poem describes a boy's childhood experience picking blackberries that represents a rite of passage into adulthood. As a child, the boy excitedly picks blackberries, but later finds the fruit has rotted, representing how childhood innocence decays. The boy realizes that ambitions do not last, just as the berries did not keep. The personal well the speaker loved as a child now echoes darkness as an adult, showing how he has lost the naive perspective of childhood. In "Digging", the speaker admires how his father and grandfather worked the land but knows he cannot follow the same path, instead using his pen to understand his family lineage and accept his change.
The document contains excerpts from various poems by different poets. It discusses poetic concepts like the speaker, audience, occasion, setting in time and place, central purpose, theme, and tone. For each excerpt, it poses discussion questions related to these concepts. The overall purpose is to analyze and understand these poetic elements through examining the provided poem passages.
Presentation given at Stetson Memorial United Methodist Church, 11/7/2013, to the United Methodist Men (UMM) group about my Poetry Where You Live site and ministry (www.raymondafoss.blogspot.com
The document appears to be a collection of song lyrics that reference themes of love, faith, and devotion to God. The lyrics describe falling in love in the summer, then betrayal. Other lyrics express having hope and taking refuge in God during difficult times, dedicating one's life to seeing God's name made known, and being led by God's love forever.
This document is an introduction to a collection of poetry titled "Words to Nourish the Soul". It describes how the collection was inspired by conversations the author had while visiting cigar bars and listening to people share their stories. The goal was to capture thoughts from these conversations in a collection of poetry meant to speak to the soul and heart of readers. The author hopes readers will re-read the poems to fully appreciate the deeper meanings beneath the words.
The document contains 86 poems on various topics related to love, relationships, memories, spirituality and more. The poems range in length from 3 to 10 lines and explore themes of missing a loved one, enduring hard times, finding comfort in faith, cherishing relationships and remembering past experiences. Many poems express longing for a partner or looking back fondly on time spent with someone special.
Romanticism soundtrack - We Are Golden, We Are NotHannah Discenza
The soundtrack focuses on how people let others affect them emotionally, either building them up or tearing them down. It starts upbeat and optimistic, slows to more thoughtful songs, then speeds up again near the end. The themes are dealing with what others think of you versus who you are, finding your unique qualities, and facing life's changes. Many songs describe relying on others for stability or escaping negative thoughts and feelings through reckless behavior. Overall it explores dark romantic ideas of guilt, fear, loneliness, sin, and self-destruction.
The lyric presentation analyzes the lyrics of a song through discussion of its musical devices, figurative language, imagery, and themes. It describes the use of end rhyme, refrain, assonance, consonance, and repetition in the song. Figurative language examined includes personification, simile, and symbolism. The imagery incorporates sight through descriptions of the sky and feeling through references to being washed over.

I dedicate this collection to my sister in Nigeria who I met in July 20, 2014 while I had travelled to Ibadan for a special vocation. Her name is Margaret. I write this to express my deeper feelings for her since no other woman in the world makes me feel the way I feel. She is the reason why the sun rises and sets in my soul. I would like to honor Margaret for her dedication and been a good blood sister. She has shown full support and the genuine love she has for me. Margaret chose to rise above all societal prejudices to settle with me in the United States of America. This is very special to me and to my nuclear family here.

I stand at the sea shore,
My heart has wept for long,
I am adequately burdened,
My soul weeps for every other day I ever lived,
For every jewel I ever believed in,
For every poem I ever crafted,
For every smile of fortune in my soul,
I loved you with every bit of myself,
My lady, the clouds of mercy welcomes me home,
The sea waves roar with impatience,

The song expresses the singer's love for their partner and their desire to be loved in return. It describes how being with their partner makes their dreams feel real and changes their life for the better. The chorus reiterates that the singer loves being loved by their partner more than anything and wants to convey this to them through both words and touch.
The document contains love poems expressing deep romantic love and devotion between partners through beautiful imagery and heartfelt expressions of feelings. It explores the beauty, passion, and eternal nature of love through poetic language in short 3 sentence or less summaries.

It seems that current missionary work requires spending a lot of money, preparing a lot of materials, and traveling to far away places, so that it feels like missionary work. But what was the result they brought back? It's just a lot of photos of activities, fun eating, drinking and some playing games. And then we have to do the same thing next year, never ending. The church once mentioned that a certain missionary would go to the field where she used to work before the end of his life. It seemed that if she had not gone, no one would be willing to go. The reason why these missionary work is so difficult is that no one obeys God’s words, and the Bible is not the main content during missionary work, because in the eyes of those who do not obey God’s words, the Bible is just words and cannot be connected with life, so Reading out God's words is boring because it doesn't have any life experience, so it cannot be connected with human life. I will give a few examples in the hope that this situation can be changed. A375

1. Poetry Where You Live

2. Writing Poetry
• I read a poem I wrote at the April 17, 2000
school board meeting and I liked the response.
• Poetry Where You Live is a state of mind,
believing that, like God’s grace, poetry is where
you live, not something you have to seek out in
some distant place.
• People say that a picture speaks a thousand
words. With poetry, I can paint a picture,
capture a moment, a smell, a scene in a handful
of words.

4. Beach Sand
Maybe it is the memories
the change of pace that brings us there
the sense of vacation
maybe the smell of the place
the sights of the gulls, the dunes, the grasses
but oh it is the feel of it,
the crunch and slide of it
the feeling of beach sand
so different from dirt, soil, loam
no, not earthy, moist, rich,
but oh so granular and gritty
even when wet,
moveable paper spreading under toes
sliding beneath the soles
smoothing my skin
clearing my mind
unburdening me of the rest
drawing me to the tactile, the feel
of beach sand
6. When We Sorrow
When we sorrow
when we rail
the yoke of our walk
our struggles heavy
sometimes seeming unjust
yet God is still with us
walking beside our every step
Faithfully offering his peace, his grace
to persevere, to bring us through
to the other side
if we follow the way of Christ
7.
8. Tears of Grace
The scene in heaven
in God’s holy courts
water flowing
showering down on us
Tears of Grace
in our Savior’s suffering
the pain of our Father
in putting the Son to death
Letting the evil
the hands of men upon him
nailing him to the cross
the lamb upon the tree
Tears of Grace
pouring out richly
loving us enough
to sacrifice for all mankind
though we are yet full of sin.
10. Poetry
I have found my voice.
Moments captured in word and rhyme.
Free form verse
And stream of consciousness.
Spell check off,
Why spoil the mood.
Where did the words come from.
Where were they hidden.
Why now.
I am free.
To share thoughts untold.
To open up.
To live.
11.
12. Dancing with God
A wonderful concept
dancing with God
but are we ready for him to lead
to guide us through life’s passages
turning our freewill over
to Him
becoming a follower
disciple of the Master
feeling his hand on our hip
our back
submitting to his will
the yoke is easy
but it is a yoke
nonetheless
hard choice
for a society, a people
wrapped up in Me
14. Beach Sand – v2
Maybe it is the memories
the change of pace that brings us there
our sense of vacation
maybe the smell of the place
visions of the gulls, the dunes, grasses;
moving in the air, the invisible breezes,
but oh it is the feel of it,
the crunch and slide of it
the feeling of beach sand
so very different from dirt, soil, loam
no, not earthy, moist, rich, wet mulch;
but oh so granular and gritty, slippery
even when wet,
moveable paper spreading under toes
sliding beneath the soles
smoothing my skin
clearing my mind, peace
unburdening me of the rest
drawing me to the tactile,
the feel of beach sand

16. In the Depths of Our Sorrow
In the depths of our sorrow
in our torment of anguish and pain
God there with us
every step of the way
Only through the fires
refined by the trials of life
steeled for God’s purpose
that we may share his love
Strengthened by the Spirit
going as we are led
guided by our shepherd
wrapped in arms of love

18. The Other Disciple
Each of us journeying
following the path
each of us gathering
carrying our cross
We are the other disciple
unnamed, on the road
walking with Jesus
all the way home
He is beside us
on our path, in this walk
sharing our struggles and triumphs
all of our days
Christ is with us
His Spirit indwelling
calling us to go, to share
in service to our King
19.
20. The Way of the Cross
In a state of love, of grace
joining the Spirit, our brother
following the call of our creator
shepherded, guided on our walk
in union with the trinity
going the way of the cross
Seeking to be his servants
the children of our loving God
the facets of his love for us
revealed in so many ways
like cascades of living water
washing down over us
Wanting to share, to the whole world
to reach out, to the ends of the earth
that all would drink from these springs
refreshed, redeemed by our savior
led by the Spirit’s teachings
caring for our neighbors
bringing us home to God
21. Living More Purposefully
Not to claim a victory
not our own validation
living more purposefully
to stay centered on God
Not drifting with the wind
not following the flow of the crowd
walking with my savior
on the road laid before me
Using my gifts, my talents
hearing my master’s call
persevering in adversity
courage, committing my all
25. Feeling the peace of that moment
Sensing their spirits
in this hallowed space
the hallowed ground I walked on
feeling their warm embrace
The stillness of the dusk
the bright sun before its dying
sharing this moment with them
the saints who guard this space
32. A Christian in the throne room of God
Oh to be a Christian, in the throne room of God
to be like Isaiah, to be in awe, in wonder
to see the heavenly beings, to see the risen Christ
sitting at the right hand of the Father
to hear the heavenly choir, to be so graced
To walk, assuming that was how we move there
to approach the throne of our brother
to bow, to humble myself,
in supplication and, oh yes, in thanksgiving
Oh if only I could find the words, in that very moment
to tell my brother, what his sacrifice, what his obedience
what his gift of love means to me
If I but have this chance, to be a Christian
to have been yoked with my brother all the days of my life
to be in the presence of God, to be before my Lord and King;
but especially to be able to thank him, to wash his feet,
as he has washed mine, as he has poured out
grace upon grace, joy after joy
To be a Christian in the throne room of God,
and to know what that means
37. A Beat in Concord
I was sitting there in the traffic, waiting for the light
the heat and humidity building in the van,
one window open to the moist air after the flooding
I saw a character, a caricature, a man out of time
on the sidewalk, under the underpass, half in shadow
He was a beat,
not a Ginsberg, no he wouldn’t Howl,
a modern day Kerouac, or someone who aspired to be
It was his walk, his gait, his hair, his clothes
a slouched walk, bath sandals that had been worn outside too long
hunched shoulders, time spent in dim lit libraries,
before glowing computer screens, shaded lamps
an oversized blazer from the thrift store
over a frock prom shirt, frilled and with cranberry edging
I could sense the latte on his breath
smell of clove cigarettes in the wool of the coat
too warm for the day around him
a mop of coarse black hair
that hadn’t seen a brush or comb in days
sunken eyes, and a certainty
he’d written lines far darker than these
words that would confuse and provoke
the unfairness of the mundane, the bleakness of his bourgeois existence
unaware of his place, his role in the intelligentsia
A yawn at the coffee house, or maybe a demigod
hard to say across the street, as I was
driving by his path for those few moments
before my light went green and I went on down the road
away from the college-aged, but no longer in college beat
on the street in Concord
41. The Dance of the Clay
the potter moving,
his hands, body
drawing the clay
pulling the clay
from the inert earth
life in the dance
the twirling, spinning upward
creation happening
our lives created,
evolving, growing
living, alive
in the dance of the clay
Editor's Notes
Poetry can be found anywhere. It doesn’t have to be something you do all the time.
Sausage
Forget the frank,
Give me the Fenway sausage.
Lansdowne or Yawkey,
Just give me the street, the crowds, the carts.
Sausage you shrug, you the reader
Of this trifle, this whimsy
What do I mean, me the storyteller
Read on.
Peppers and onions
Tease the tongue
Bun and hot mustard
Set the stage
The scorched and blackened piece of meat
Reminds me of every one
Eaten before
So much memory
Of family and fun
Of ballgames, tailgates, and the carnie
A cacophony of moments
Drip with grease
Do you smell it too on the smoky hot grill?
My lips curl with a smirk
Writing these lines
As I laugh to myself
Of the pleasures of excess
The lusty gluttony
Of another one.
