City Streets
At 12 a.m. Sunday, April 27, the Johns Creek
Police Department hit the streets for the first
time, officially assuming law enforcement du-
ties from Fulton County.
Led by Chief Ed Densmore, the department’s
56 sworn officers spent the two weeks prior to
launch receiving intensive training, including
practice with firearms and other equipment,
review of departmental policies and procedures, and getting familiar
with the City’s neighborhoods.
Saturday afternoon, the department held a ceremony and open
house at its headquarters, 11445 Johns Creek Parkway. Law enforce-
ment officials from adjoining cities and counties joined City staff
and residents to meet the staff, check out the facilities and generally
welcome Georgia’s newest police force.
Each officer was presented with a welcome package including de-
partmental duffle bags, jackets and hats as well as a variety of other
items and coupons donated from local businesses such as Emory
Johns Creek Hospital, Northside Hospital, Johns Creek Tech Park
Business Owners Association, Fast Frame, Whole Foods, Applebee’s,
Chipotle, Super H, Panera,
Chili’s and Garrison’s. The

GDOT Set to Begin Medlock
Bridge Work in May
The Georgia Department of Transportation will begin resurfacing the approxi-
mately 5.5 miles of S.R. 141/Medlock Bridge Road in Johns Creek in mid to late
May, a project that includes improvements to the intersection of Medlock and
State Bridge Road.
Work includes removing and replacing the top layer of asphalt, new striping
and the addition of a left turn lane in each direction at State Bridge Road. It will
be conducted between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. Sunday nights through Friday morn-
ings and 8 p.m. and 8 a.m. Friday night through Sunday morning. Expect lane
closures and possible delays.
C.W. Mathews Contracting Co. is leading the $3.6 million project, which is
expected to be completed by the end of July. For information or questions

Spring brings renewal, good news
With spring comes a sense of renewal and
reinvigoration. For your city, spring brings
many things, including:
A new era of public safety for Johns Creek,
as we launch our Police Department. My Council col-
leagues and I extend our deepest thanks to the outstand-
ing men and women of the Fulton County Police Depart-
ment who have served the Johns Creek area over the past
30 years, as well as best wishes to our officers coming on
board.
Some good news from the Georgia Legislature – lawmak-
ers passed a bill prohibiting Fulton County from issuing
backdated sign permits, blocking the rise of more than 70
billboards including some 30 here in the City. And with
House Speaker Pro Tem Mark Burkhalter as the primary
sponsor, North Fulton’s Representatives and Senators
found a way to get Fulton to return about $3 million owed
to our residents in Special Services District taxes.
Our first-ever Summer Day Camp program. Registration
is open for four one-week sessions in June. Camp takes
place at Findley Oaks Elementary School from 7:30 a.m. to
5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Children ages 6-12 can
enjoy fun-filled days for just $200 for the week.

Department Ready to Roll
Weather Radios Can Save Lives
Chief Joey Daniels is launching recruiting efforts
for the City’s Fire Department in April. The
department needs approximately 65 firefighters
when it expects to begin operations in August.

Metro Atlanta residents are all too aware how terrifying tornadoes
can be and every second counts when trying to
escape its destructive power.
A special National Oceanic and Atmospheric
Administration (NOAA) Weather Radio may provide
as much as eight minutes lead time to get to safety.
During an emergency, NOAA broadcasts a special
tone that automatically activates weather radios. NOAA then broadcasts
warning and post-event information for all types of hazards. Available at
prices starting at around $20, a weather radio also broadcasts around-the-
clock weather reports and information to help prepare for the day ahead.
Firefighter Honored
Posthumously,
Served Johns Creek
Community
Fulton County Firefighter Felix Rob-
erts, who died May 28, 2007, fighting
a fire in Johns Creek, was honored
posthumously at an April 21 Memo-
rial Service at the Georgia Public Safety
Training Center in Forsyth.
Roberts was only the third firefighter
in the 30-year history of the Fulton
County Fire Department to die in the
line of duty. He was based at Station 8
in Johns Creek.
Roberts’ name was engraved on the
Memorial Wall at the Training Center
and his family was presented with a
Medal of Memorial and a proclamation from Governor Sonny Perdue, pay-
ing tribute to his service and sacrifice.
More than 150 people attended the ceremony, including members of the
Fulton County and Sandy Springs fire departments, Fulton County Fire
Captain Wayne Gilliard, who fought alongside Roberts the night he died,
and Johns Creek Fire Chief Joey Daniels.

When the calendar turns to spring, people naturally want to get out-
doors and the City’s parks are a prime destination. Baseball and softball
leagues kicked off their seasons at Ocee Park, while youngsters swarmed
the field at Newtown Park for Johns Creek’s first annual Egg Hunt and
others took to the playgrounds. However, all the activities proved a bit
exhausting for some.
