RECYCLE RAMA HELPS LANSING GO
GREEN
(Lansing, MI) The Regional Recycling Coordinating Committee hosted their annual Recycle
Rama collection event for the tri-county area located at the Ingham County Health
Department today from 9am-2pm.
“Recycle Rama is one of Michigan’s biggest recycling events of the year,” said Linda Vail,
health officer for the Ingham County Health Department. “Every year we’ve seen an
increase in attendance and this year was no different.”
The event, which began in 2009, is designed to make recycling unwanted items easier for
the residents of the tri county area. Today, over 1800 cars came through to donate their
unwanted items to be put to better use.
Participants could recycle or donate any of the following items: books, bicycles,
appliances/scrap metal, unwanted medicines, compact fluorescent light bulbs, mercury
thermostats, mercury thermometers, cooking oil, electronics, household batteries, eye
glasses, fabric/yarn, Styrofoam and glass bottles/jars.
Just over 100 tons of electrical waste and 1300 pounds of medicine were collected at
today’s event.
“None of this would’ve been possible without the help of our volunteers,” said Jeremy Orr,
executive director for Mid Michigan Environmental Action Council (Mid-MEAC). “This year
was not easy with the cold temperatures, but our volunteers helped everything run
smoothly.”
