This document outlines ideas for three potential documentary films:
1) A film about marriage over time, contrasting newlywed and long-married couples and exploring how perceptions of marriage have changed. It would include interviews and home videos.
2) A documentary comparing major theme parks in the UK and filming rides and interviews with customers and employees.
3) A documentary looking at different types of weddings from various cultures and locations. It would show the ceremonies and celebrations and include interviews about wedding planning and stories of disastrous events.

Newlyweds vs old couple new
1. Shots- Location: homes of couple,
When: valentines day, wedding day of new couple, anniversaries.
Who: Newlyweds (just married in the past weeks, months or year) Old couples married
over 50 years. Friends and family of the couples.
Type: Two shot (appropriate for documentary), close up, establishing shots (to set the
scene).
Layout- mise en scene: Homes, churches, photos of the couples, (black and white for
old couple), engagement and wedding rings.
Draft Ideas- starts off with old couple sitting together
Home video clip of their wedding day
Then newlyweds sitting together with a clip of their wedding day so the audience can
see the contrast .
Interviewer would ask the same questions to the couples (show the couples answers to
the same question one after another to show the difference)
Interview family and friends of the couples.
some questions that I would include:- how is marriage perceived today compared to 50
years ago? – Did you have a small or big wedding day? Why? Should you be religious to
be able to get married?
2. Shots- Location: Thorpe park, Chessington world of adventures, Leggo land
and Alton towers.
When: Summer when the theme parks are at it’s busiest. Also bonfire night.
Who: Customers, tourists, employees and managers.
Type: crane shot, establishing shot, long shot. Fast editing to show the
action and to contrast with the fast rides.
Layout- mise en scene: Rides, roller coasters, games, prizes, restaurants,
shops, information booths.
Draft Ideas- Film some of the rides, compare different roller coasters.
Where the parks are and compare them for ages ( whether for younger or
older children)
Different deals/ annual passes
Interview some of the customers from different theme parks: Why did you
chose this theme park? Do you like any of the others? What's the best ride?
Etc
Interview the employees: Whets it like to work in a theme park? Would you
recommend it?
3. Shots- Location: church, registry office, castle, temple home or
beach.
When: Mainly in the summer (most people want nice whether).
Who: Priests, couples, guests, family.
Type: establishing shot, two shot, group shot, long/mid shot and
crane shot.
Layout- mise en scene: either a church or different location
depending on what type of wedding it is, bride and groom with all
guests, ceremony and
reception, dresses, suits, cars, rings, presents, cake etc...
Draft ideas- look at different weddings for example cultural
weddings, whacky weddings with themes, normal weddings and also
eloping. Go through the story of each wedding with interviews in-
between. Also show stories of disastrous weddings in newspapers
and facts with pictures. I would want this documentary to be
humorous at times but to also show the seriousness.
