There are very few safe places for young people to go to
talk about weapons. The authors of this program believe
that young people are starved of opportunities to discuss
this life and death subject and would respond
constructively if offered the opportunity to do so.
The T3 ‘Watch, Discuss, Share’ program offers access
to an energetic and structured discussion about weapons
and why they even exist.

The cross-curricular program, shaped in the form of a
‘Toolkit’, is a right of passage event lead by teachers. The
kit offers a range of work, action, discussion and role-
playing events. Engagement is secured by viewing a short
documentary along with several short videos of respected
thought-leaders on the subject of weapons.
In this way, the kit as a whole is referred to playfully as:
‘Kalashnikov’s Dream’.

By the end of the program, students will have achieved:
• an understanding about the impact of weapons on society.
• an awareness of their feelings and how to voice those feelings.
• an understanding of the moral implications of the subject.

THE FILM MAKERS
Each teacher employs the
Documentary and the Educational
Toolkit to support her in a structured
student discussion on the subject of
weapons with 12-18 year olds. Her
students are supported by a dedicated
App outside the classroom.
THE TEACHER
The App features the renowned artist
Carl McCrow. This intrepid man
travels throughout Europe and Africa in
a lorry with his industrial-strength gun
crusher to destroy one million rogue
guns. An App Adventure!

After seeing the play at the
Oxford Playhouse, the Film
Makers secure the film
rights. They commission
Fraser to pen an
educational script. The new
work is called ‘AK-47
Kalashnikov’s Dream’.

A Jury of interviewees reflect upon Kalashnikov’s
defense of his invention. The completed short film
is a masterpiece reflection on weapons and how to
counter act the threat of them.
Fraser Grace is the
prominent author of
award winning plays.
His latest,
‘Kalashnikov in the
Woods’ is based on
interviews with the
famous Soviet
engineer just months
before he dies.
Unseen film archives, original war photography and
startling visual techniques chart the ascendancy of
the engineer’s invention. Dramatic scenes explore
the moral interplay between a Priest (Richard E.
Grant) and Kalashnikov (Stephen Birkoff).

The Film Makers meet a group of educational
consultants. Together they conceive an
educational program based on the film. The
idea is to offer students the opportunity to
become engaged on the subject of weapons
in their community.
“Young people internalise things but
what the program has done is bring a
number of quieter students to the
surface – students who we’d never
have known were going through such
anxiety and stress at home on the
subject of violence. They haven’t
wanted to speak to their mum and dad
about it but it’s coming out in these
sessions”.
Teacher Response
The Film and Toolkit are
sponsored in 2018 and launched
to London schools in 2019, offering
teacher-led role playing activities
and discussions. Engagement is
secured through watching the
documentary. After completion, all
students are invited to download
an App which allows them access
to further activities.
Tempting Publishing pilot

a Peer to Peer Conference.
Over 60 schools attend
representing over 5,000
students.

Meet the Gun Crusher, better known
as international artist Carl McCrow.
His compelling work appears in the
film. There he explores his mission to
destroy one million rogue weapons.
The students download the
App. A one tap activation flow
receives their action to follow:
“Congratulations! You have
successfully completed the
Program! Now your real
adventure begins!”
A class enjoy watching ‘AK-47 Kalashnikov’s
Dream’. An end title promotes a link to an
App that invites the students to ‘follow Carl’s
international adventures’.
Interest from Schools across the capital fuel
Carl’s ambition. He purchases a second
industrial grade gun crusher and continues
his journey, hauling the crushers to all the
UNDP stockpiles in Europe and Africa.

Interest in Carl’s campaign is
registered on the App and grows in the
form of ‘Likes’ from students who have
completed the program.
A route planner charts Carl’s
anticipated destinations with his actual
location identified at any given
moment on the App’s location finder.
Carl regularly uploads images and
reports from his journey to students
with evidence from the sites he visits
and the stockpiles he’s starting to
reduce.
Carl’s objective is to crush one million
rogue unlicensed guns and other
weapons. The App will remain live
counting down the number of crushes
(as a percentage) until he has reached
his target over a period of 18 months.
A photographer follows Carl on his
adventures and footage is viewable on
the application and through other
social media channels.
Live streams are schedule during the
actual adventure! The evidence of his
action and success!
