From Natural Language to Structured Solr Queries using LLMsSease
This talk draws on experimentation to enable AI applications with Solr. One important use case is to use AI for better accessibility and discoverability of the data: while User eXperience techniques, lexical search improvements, and data harmonization can take organizations to a good level of accessibility, a structural (or “cognitive” gap) remains between the data user needs and the data producer constraints.
That is where AI – and most importantly, Natural Language Processing and Large Language Model techniques – could make a difference. This natural language, conversational engine could facilitate access and usage of the data leveraging the semantics of any data source.
The objective of the presentation is to propose a technical approach and a way forward to achieve this goal.
The key concept is to enable users to express their search queries in natural language, which the LLM then enriches, interprets, and translates into structured queries based on the Solr index’s metadata.
This approach leverages the LLM’s ability to understand the nuances of natural language and the structure of documents within Apache Solr.
The LLM acts as an intermediary agent, offering a transparent experience to users automatically and potentially uncovering relevant documents that conventional search methods might overlook. The presentation will include the results of this experimental work, lessons learned, best practices, and the scope of future work that should improve the approach and make it production-ready.

Building automations in FME Flow can save time, money, and help businesses scale by eliminating data silos and providing data to stakeholders in real-time. One essential component to orchestrating complex automations is the use of attributes & automation parameters (both formerly known as “keys”). In fact, it’s unlikely you’ll ever build an Automation without using these components, but what exactly are they?
Attributes & automation parameters enable the automation author to pass data values from one automation component to the next. During this webinar, our FME Flow Specialists will cover leveraging the three types of these output attributes & parameters in FME Flow: Event, Custom, and Automation. As a bonus, they’ll also be making use of the Split-Merge Block functionality.
You’ll leave this webinar with a better understanding of how to maximize the potential of automations by making use of attributes & automation parameters, with the ultimate goal of setting your enterprise integration workflows up on autopilot.
Dandelion Hashtable: beyond billion requests per second on a commodity serverAntonios Katsarakis
This slide deck presents DLHT, a concurrent in-memory hashtable. Despite efforts to optimize hashtables, that go as far as sacrificing core functionality, state-of-the-art designs still incur multiple memory accesses per request and block request processing in three cases. First, most hashtables block while waiting for data to be retrieved from memory. Second, open-addressing designs, which represent the current state-of-the-art, either cannot free index slots on deletes or must block all requests to do so. Third, index resizes block every request until all objects are copied to the new index. Defying folklore wisdom, DLHT forgoes open-addressing and adopts a fully-featured and memory-aware closed-addressing design based on bounded cache-line-chaining. This design offers lock-free index operations and deletes that free slots instantly, (2) completes most requests with a single memory access, (3) utilizes software prefetching to hide memory latencies, and (4) employs a novel non-blocking and parallel resizing. In a commodity server and a memory-resident workload, DLHT surpasses 1.6B requests per second and provides 3.5x (12x) the throughput of the state-of-the-art closed-addressing (open-addressing) resizable hashtable on Gets (Deletes).
2. Did you ever see a thirty foot long, thirteen ton, black, white and
slippery vertebrate mammal? If you did, it’s the Orca Whale. Orcas are often
thought of whales because of their size. But actually, they are part of the Dolphin
family, or the Delphinade. Orcas live in the cold, icy waters of the Antarctic Ocean.
When they migrate, Orcas go to the Pacific, Atlantic or Indian Ocean. Orcas live in
pods or groups of five to fifty five Orcas! Orcas have a fin half way down their back
called a Dorsal fin. Female Orcas’ Dorsal fin can be one meter tall, while male’s
Dorsal fin can be taller than the average human! Orcas are the most, well known
whales in the world; they’re also fierce. Orcas usually only have one baby in their
lifetime. When they’re born, they are about seven feet long and weigh up to four
hundred pounds! Orcas have a huge appetite. They eat
fish, squids, sharks, birds, seals, sea turtles, octopus, whales and penguins. Even
though Orcas aren’t endangered, we need to keep them alive.
3. Here I am with my Antarctic habitat
Habitat
• In the habitat there is mountains
• There is also snow
• There is ice bergs and water
• There is food to eat such as fish, squid, sharks, birds, seals, sea
turtles, octopus, whales and penguins
• And of course, there is the Orcas
4. Baby Orcas
Orca gestation is thirteen to sixteen months. Orcas
are born as miniature adults, with black and white, slippery
skin. They are usually born in autumn, and weigh about four
hundred pounds, measuring up to seven feet! Orcas are born
tail to head, so they don’t drown. Orcas usually only have
one baby in their lifetime. A calf will remain with its mother
for at least two years, then it is ready to fend for itself.

What’s black and white and thirteen tons?
It’s the Orca Whale!
What’s the playful, big mammal that lives in the sea?
It’s the Orca Whale!
What’s thirty feet long and migrates all over?
It’s the Orca Whale!
And somethin’ you wanna know is it’s a dolphin.
7. Saving Antarctica
“Hey Nabeu,” I said “I want you to save the world.” “ WHAT!?”
said Nabeu. “I want you to save the world. I can help you if you like,” I
added. “Uh, yeah. Help.Great.” stuttered Nabeu. “Okay, first things
first.” I said, ignoring Nabeu. “Let’s go to the library.”
***
“Okay, so now we know Spanish, Japanese, Chinese, German
Russian and African.” I said. “How can that help us?” asked Nabeu.
“We are going to go around the world and tell people to stop polluting
and save Antarctica.” I replied. “That’s our job, right?” “Yeah.” said
Nabeu. “We’re First Class, Super-Duper Antarctica Savers, right?”
“Yeah.” said Nabeu again. “Let’s go then.” I said.
Nabeu and I are still working to save Antarctica. You can help
too! You can do things like reducing, reusing and recycling. But, you
can’t go around the world telling people to stop polluting until you’re
a First Class, Super-Duper Antarctica Saver like Nabeu and I.
