This is to certify that Joji Asakura Thompson was a participant in the Summer
2011 NASA-Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) NASA/JPL Noyce Program (NSF) Instructional
Lessons Review Summer Institute. This project was supported by Dr. Joan Prival of the
National Science Foundation and directed by Dr. Art Hammon of the JPL Education Office, Ms.
Jean Pennycook of the National Science Foundation and Dr. John Keller of California State
University-San Luis Obispo.
The participant named above examined NASA education materials, evaluated specific NASA
lessons (educator guides, science activities, critical thinking, reading and writing materials) and
completed extensive analysis and reporting to participating instructors from NASA/JPL, the
National Science Foundation and California State University-San Luis Obispo.
Participation in this project required 40 hours of the volunteer participant’s time, significant study, learning, and
use of computer and internet technology during a five-day period, July 18-22, 2011.
