My love, my childhood..my hobby…Bollywood memories
I try to remember when did I get acquainted with Hindi Cinema World, Bollywood first time as a child? I
faintly remember and mostly it was the first incidence. We were living at Shirpur town in North
Maharashtra, district Dhule. Shirpur was of 40,000 population and having 2 theatres then Bhandari
Chitra Mandir owner by our neighbor and friend of my elder brother Raju Bhandari and Datta Chitra
Mandir. There were 2 open theatres at near villages Raj Talkies, at Arthe and other was at Shevgaon,
one just opposite to S P D M College, a little outskirt of Shirpur. There used to be 2 shows, from 6:0 pm
to 9:0 pm and second from 9:0 pm to 12:0 pm.
I was 10 years old, in 5th
standard then. I had moved from Yashwant Prarthamik Vidyalaya (basic
elementary school) to P B M high School, having English as one of the subjects. We had annual
examination starting from Monday. It was Sunday evening. I went to watch Johney mera naam. Second
day was English examination paper. I did well, got 84 marks out of 100! I distinctly remember haircut of
Dev Anand, and his Saffron color jacket. I remember a scene in which Hema Malini puts the revolver at
back of Dev Anand. There was a reason; my cousin had a keychain having a film inside it of the same
picture. Brother-in-law of my sister was gifted in dowry a record player. It had an arrangement of
holding many records at a time. It had record of Johney Mera Naam, and I had enjoyed listening all the
songs of JMN then.
Keychain Posture Posture (could not find similar, not
exact)
There is a story associated with this film. There was a competition among the theatre owners who
would display the latest movie at the earliest. During fair of Shirpur town, this business was a crowd
pulling since many villagers visiting to fair would also watch the movies. A owner of Raj Theatre of Arthe
village did a trick by cheating. He put the posture (banner) of Johney Mera naam however was
displaying Mera Naam Joker. My brother with his friends went to watch the movie on cycle. He was late
to return. My father was worried and angry. I learnt he shouted at him.
My second memory goes to Kati Patang. My aunty was living at a village namely Untawad, close to our
town. She was a regular viewer of Hindi Cinema. She will ride a bullock-cart and visit to the theatre. So
my mother and aunty along with me went to watch Kati Patang. It was release at Mumbai on 29th
Jan
1971. Theatre owners will get the movie, the reel of the movie in film format in a tin box called peti from
the distributors at Bhusawal or Amarawati. It used to take 9 months to 15 – 18 months to show in
theatres of our town. So it might be 1972, I was 10 then. I distinctly remember, songs ye jo mohbbat hai,
and Asha Parekh in white saree singing Na koi Umang hai, and lastly Jis Gali me tera ghar na ho balma… I
have one more memory of visiting to see a name board at tailor shop. His name was famous tailor. He
had displayed painting of Rajesh Khanna having pose of song Ye sham mastani! We used to call owner of
a shop as master tailor. My brother danced on song ye jo mohhabat hai, & fetched huge 100 Rs reward.
Song scene Song scene Song & Painting
I will be paid Rs 1 to see one movie in one month. Ticket rates shall be front and floor – 65 Paisa,
Benches with & without back – 85 Paisa, and Balcony for Rs 1 and 10 paisa. When movie is declared as
tax free, it will be 30, 50 and 65 Paisa respectively. I also remember sometimes it used to be front-floor
at 15 paisa. I missed to watch Janwar aur Insaan at 30 paisa since I had watched some other movie in
that month.
Visiting to all theatres daily : While in standard 5th
, school will have a mid-day break for 30 minutes. I
along with 2 friends will visit to theatre to see which film is to be screened, and the postures of new
films; These theatres were in market so our route shall be from school to theatre 1, to market, then 2nd
theatre and then 3rd
theatre and then home for brunch (breakfast). And chat about new releases, box
office success, hero-heroin, their gossip, etc while walking on this route. That was a great routine.
Various new postures displayed at Datta Talkies
Next to our shop there was a pan wala. Theatre owners will ask him to hang the small postures at his
shop since it was a central place for publicity. Few postures also used to be displayed at the theatres.
Screen : My brother used to borrow Screen Cine NEWS paper from his friend who is an owner of
Bhandari Chitra Mandir. He will try to hide it below pillow cover, which I will find and read. I remember
full screen advertisement of Nawab aur Shabab (Sharab word was replaced due to emergency control),
Mr.John, Shareef Badmaash, Chhupa Rustum, Banarasi Babu, Des-Pardes; etc. I did post questions to be
answered in a forum twice. I did send few times questions out of which 2 questions were published
Collection of Dev Anand photos : My brother used to collect photos of Dev Anand, I remember many
photos, but distinctly remember these. One just mentioning Directed by and full pose photo below.
With digital world and connecting with social networking websites I have now collected more than 2000
photos of Anand families.
https://goo.gl/photos/7sKXoXxQPTQbzrLK9 and https://photos.app.goo.gl/YnHmpGoka1JRXyeBA
Visiting to liabrary daily : There was one more routine to visit Municipal Library at around 9:0 am when
school time used to be 11:0 am till 5:0 pm. I will read .. not front news but last and second last page of
Marathi and English news papers like Kesari, Maratha (from Pune), Maharashtra Times and Loksatta
(Mumbai). On which movies released, in which week it was running, and list of theatres will be
mentioned. I distinctly remember Joshila running 32 cinema hall in second week, that used to be
considered as a huge success. Other movies I remember are Heera Panna for 8th
week at Empire, Prem
Shashtra for 5 weeks and Ishq-Ishq-Ishq for 3 weeks. I remember advertisement of Joshila in newspaper
showing Dev Anand both hands in front pockets, that was a fashion then.
8 week of run, song
topping in Binaca
5 weeks of run, positive
review in newspaper
Ran 32 theatres 2nd
week
3 weeks of run,
major flop
Every Saturday movie review shall be published. I remember a title and review of Prem Shastra,
“Wadhatya rangaticha chatakdar – Pram Shashtra” I do have a cutting from Loksatta.
In Kesari there will be many advertisements of
movies including one running during matinee,
along with small photo of hero or heroine, name of
movie and theatre. I remember advertisement of
Baat Ek Raat ki, and photo of Dev Anand.
Prabhat news paper used to publish on Thursday
itself release of old-new movies which was helping
us to plan better like we watched Guide at
Neelayam, Albela, Hum Dono at vasant, etc
In the market one guy used to sell a small booklet of songs at 10-15 paisa. I remember brother having
purchased few & I learnt by heart these songs Amar Prem (Chingari koi bhadake), Prem Pujari (Taqad
watan ki hamse hai),and Upkar (Mere desh ki Dharati)
I watched many other movies…having some distinct memories associated with
Gopi (70) – There was craze of Dilip Kumar among brothers and friends. The day Gopi was released in
our town, it was a talk of the town.
Mere Mehboob (63) and Mere Apne (71) – My sister along with me started walking towards Datta
Talkies where Mere Apne was shown. Then she realized that at Bhandari Chitra mandir, mere Mehboob
was being shown. I was interested in movie with a fighting. She tried convincing me that Mere mehboob
has a hero Rajendra Kumar and is a chocolate hero. We went to see. I was waiting for fighting scene,
repeatedly asking to my sister when would fighting scene will come? I saw owner of Bhandari Chitra
Mandir before end of cinema was standing behind. I remember distinctly having told him that kya
bandle movie bata rahe ho, kuch bhi fighting scene nahi hai
Dushman (72) release was a topic of discussion in a town; when movie was shown in the Bhandari
theatre! It was another movie my elder sister took me with her. I was 10 years old. This was post her
marriage. We both went to my uncle’s house to meet him since he fell and fractured his leg. Later we
went to see movie. Uncle said, it was a nice movie, wada tera wada! We friends used to discuss the
dialogues of the movie, chacha, ye tractor muze de do , mai is khet ki aisi ki taisi kar dunga! I remember
trying to imitate his hair style, & hairband style like many others! Only a super star of Bollywood, what a
success he has enjoyes. It needs guts to digest such a huge success.
Rajesh did 180 films - 163 feature films and 17 short films. By 2011, he held record for maximum
number of films as the solo lead hero and least number of multi star cast films in Hindi Cinema. Of the
163 films - 106 were solo hero films and 22 were multi star films and 29 films had him in special effective
guest appearances and 6 unreleased. A unique record of 21 platinum, 15 Golden Jubilee Hits and 4
silver silver jubilee hits and only 7 flops in 9 years. He also made the world record of having 17
successive super-hits in 3 years from 1969-71 which included 15 consecutive solo super-hit films and 2
two hero films namely Andaz and Maryada.
Those 15 consecutive hit solo lead hero films from 1969-71 were Aradhana, Doli, Bandhan, Ittefaq, Do
Raaste, Khamoshi, Safar, The Train, Kati Patang, Sachaa Jhutha, Aan Milo Sajna, Mehboob Ki Mehendi,
Choti Bahu, Anand and Haathi Mere Saathi. His next release Maalik flopped ending thereby the record..
Haathi mere saathi (71) – This movie was shown very late and print quality was too very bad. It was
many times discontinued while showing. There were lines & scratches on the screen. My mother & I
went to watch this movie. We both cried at the end. After few years later again new print was released
and I saw it again. There were many new scenes were existing which were cut due to bad print.
Tere Mere Sapne (71) at Barwah: I went to attend marriage at sister’s place. It was a hobby to visit the
market and theatres of a town to see the postures of the films. I saw postures of 2 movies, Jai Bangla
Desh and tere Mere Sapne. I went to watch the evening show with my cousin. I was waiting for the song,
maine tere liye hi saat rang ke sapne chune” thinking TMS has it. Later I realized that song belongs to
famous emotional movie Anand of Rajesh Khanna. I wrote a blog on TMS as The most sensitive movie
http://www.twitlonger.com/show/n_1sqgb6a
Out of few most liked movies, TMS is surely on the top like Guide & Muhgal-E-Azam
I said " Tere mere sapne" when Goldie asked me “Achha...aapke meri konsi film achhi lagati hai?”
Excellent and Very strong story, dialogue, screen play, music, acting, direction!
Sapno ke tut Jane see aadmi nahi tut jata...
Apne bare me bhi kuch kaho...tum Kya ho...doctory ke peshe par ek dhabba. Jaganath Kothari, mbbs
Bombay mrcog london...Jinake bharose unko jindagi ki ummid ho sakati hai wo nasheme chur pada hai...
Each frame is unique in this 1 minute scene...no other film in Bollywood has such an intense scene !...I
have watched multiple times, studied facial expressions, dialogue delivery, screen play, and all
aspects...should be included in syllabus..
Tere mere sapne is one of the most sensitive films in Bollywood produced and directed by Vijay Anand,
with excellent acting by all actors including Vijay Anand himself and Dev Anand, and one of the best
roles delivered by Mumtaz.
There is an idealist doctor, who wants to work in the villages. There is a woman school teacher who
teaches in the village school. It is a meeting of minds. She inspires him to study further. Unfortunately a
mishap happens when the idealist couple loses their child because of a road accident. They go to the
city. The doctor gets corrupted by the ways of the city. His wife leaves him. The doctor realizes his folly
and returns to the village.
A parallel theme of 2 doctors, 1 has been addict to alcohol while at that time other is ideal , passionate
to serve society and having dreams while later situation reversed.. first Dr. Played by Vijay Anand Dr.
Jagan Kothari turns ideal, simple and other doctor gets I to noshia of money, greed and fame!
The appeal of the music was enhanced by the way Vijay Anand filmed the songs as only he could. It
made a socio-political statement. Music by SD, heart touching songs by Neeraj, and The appeal of the
music was enhanced by the way Vijay Anand picturized the songs as only he could.
Jarurat (72) – First movie of Reena Roy, there was a scene friend will talk about, “tis rupaye me ek raat”
(one night for 30 Rs), Not sure if I knew or understood the meaning of this then. We will visit back side
of theatre to collect the cut films of the reel which were thrown while machine operator will run the
dummy run in theatre and assure the continuity.
Malik (72) – My mother & I went to see this movie. After marriage rajesh Khanna and Sharmila Tagore
are sleeping together. My mom asked me, are they husband wife in real life too?
Shareef badmaash (73) – Our economic condition had deteriorated from rich to poor. Rs 1 for one
month used to be huge expense. I wanted to watch the movie and requesting my mother for money. I
have read in Screen that in first week it had collection of 8,52,000 (I do not remember exactly last 3
digits), and Dev Anand with shackles in his hands. I kept crying, took hammer and hit many times to the
lock of wooden cupboard so that I can break it and take money. Poor mother was watching, must have
felt pity that she did not had Rs 1 for his child to watch a movie. Those marks were seen till recently we
disposed that cupboard. I remember the display of screen photo as below
Raja Jani (72) – during fair at Shirpur this movie was shown. In town they will make publicity taking the
psotures on 4- wheeler cart announcing using loud speaker. At the same time Marathi movie of V
Shantaram was also successfully shown Pinjara.
Heera Panna (73) – I still remember a small posture of Dev Anand just sitting nervous when everyone
departs from him.
Jugnu (73) – Pair of Dharmendra and Hema Malini was very popular. There was a list of 25 movies of
Hema Malini published in one of the Marathi Cine Magazine, Rasrang, 25th
Movie if my memory cell still
holds the right data, was Prem Nagar. We will also debate why Hema Malini does not want to do movies
with Rajesh Khanna and vice a versa.
Bobby (73) – We saw this movie in Chitra talkies of Jalgaon. My mother, all 3-4 aunties went to Jalgaon
to attend marriage of my cousin (Fufa’s daughter). The movie was very successful, there was song
played everywhere and around and all the time hum Tum Ek kamare me band ho. It was afternoon
show, we sat in our places, movie started. And it was dark, one man came and sat in my mom’s lap. She
was extremely sensitive about men’s touch to her body and started shivering. Throughout film she was
having concerns. One of other aunts was laughing to her sensitivity.
Bidaai (74) – Song was very popular, mera sasara bada paise wala, I watched this movie with my mother.
Social movies used to be equal popular and successful.
Sholay (75) – I was in nineth standard and friend who used to be top in class narrated a story of Sholay
to us in school, he happened to watch it at Nashik so had an upper hand and proud.
Due to restriction of one movie per month, there will be dilemma few times which movie I should pick
up, Mastana (of Mehmood) or Do Aankhe Barah Hath? Or Ghar Ghar ki kahani?
Once my brother suggested to see Dil Ek mandir to me and my mother. It was a bit surprising. We both
went to watch it. However that was not an age to understand the sensitivity of Dil Ek Mandir.
Once while purchasing vegetables, I saw a colorful posture of a movie made of tin plate. I tried to read,
it was Mughal-E-Azam. It was different than displayed below. Both Dilip Kumar & Prithviraj Kapoor
shown in opposite direction. I cannot believe even today that film like Mughal-E-Azam can be produced
in India. Look at the series of the events, huge sets, dialogues, continuity, screenplay, acting, music,
songs, direction, and what not! Salute to determination, perseverance and passion of K Asif, a director.
Alankar theatre opening: Later there was one more theatre came namely Alankar theatre. First movie
displayed was Tangewala of Rajendra Kumar. It ran for a quiet few weeks, second movie was Jeet. Later
they displayed movie Shor. There is a related memory. My cousin sister just was married and returned
first time form in-laws place to aunty’s place. She offered to party and take her brothers & sisters to
movie Shor. I was anticipating that she would offer me too, but did not offer.
Opening movie Emotional movie Alankar Talkies Alankar Talkies
Few postures were displayed, one of
those of Warrant. I could not find exact
posture which also has small photo of
Dev Anand running using skets.
I remember two radio advertisements,
Warrant – “kanoon ke raksha ke liye,
kanoon se ladha” and “Dharati ke upar
baraf, aur baraf ke niche sona, kise pata
hai..Chhupa Rustum
One of my friends Anil Agrawal used to imitate Randhir Kapoor, including his hair style. I too tried both
hair style one of Dev Anand and other was of Rajesh Khanna, which was a bit difficult.
Nagin (76) : was released in open theatre. I watched at theatre. It was summer. We used to sleep on
terrace. During last show we could hear entire movie & dialogues and could not sleep for entire period.
Chor Machaye Shor (74) – Wonderful pair of Shashi & Mumtaz and nice music, watched at Alankar; “teri
maa ko apni maa kahoo” Many movies were using repeat punch line as a branding!
My mother & father had watched a movie together when visited another neighborhood Taluka place
Amalner, I faintly remember name of movie was Kanyadan (Shashi Kapoor, Nanda). She was scared
thinking story can repeat for her. My father had watched Sholay at Shrirampur while My other sister was
crazily in love with Bollywood Cinema, particularly after marriage. She had gone to watch movie directly
to theatre while visiting us post marriage.
There is a sad memory related to a movie Chori-chori. A charity show was
arranged by Rotary. I was invited by a friend Sham living opposite to our house.
He later died at young age due to brain tumor. This movie always reminds me of
him, and vice a versa.
Selling ticket in interval: We were given a pass if we get out of theatre during interval. Retail Sellers
were selling pea-nuts, Watermelon seeds, etc etc outside. We used to either buy or sell pass in around
half the price of ticket. It may be 30 paisa to 50 paisa depending our ticket cost and how good/bad
movie was and its closing climax at the end. I remember selling Gate pass at 30 paisa for the movie
Paras. The song “Tere hothon ke do ful pyare pyare” was popular.
Waited release & watched Joshila, Bullet (Many cuts due to emergency control,) Amir Garib, Des-Pardes
Fair business Discontinuity of story Successfully ran Successfully ran
I used to curiously watch the postures from the bus while travelling from one town to other from the
window of the bus or train.
It was HRHK Hare Rama Hare Krishna movie release during 71, I adopted a walking style of Devanand in
school so friends started quoting me Devanand. Teacher once said, why I do not walk straight-line, and
walk like a camel in chess!
Binaca : One of my uncles was staying in neighbor building. I will visit every Wednesday at 8:0 pm to 9:0
pm. We often used to discuss during school days about Binaca geet mala, which song stood first, which
star had how many songs, etc
There was a time when there were 5 songs from movies of Dev Anand!(6-7th std - 1973)
Those include Shareef Badmash, Chhupa Rustum and Banarasi babu!
Banarasi babu
- Bure Bhi Hum Bhale Bhi Hum (Top)
- Mere Peeche Ek Ladki
- Koi Koi Raat Aisi Hoti Hai
Chhupa Rustam
- Dheere Se Jaana Khatiyan Mein (Alternate Top)
- Bolo Kya Humko Doge
- Hum chhupe rustam hain
Shareef Badmash
- Neend Chura Ke Raaton
- Tere Sau Deewane Juthe Parvane
- Main Nikal Jaoonga
We used to note using pen and notebook the listing of the songs played during annual Binaca Geetmala.
In 1970 Anand brothers gave 3 movies with very interesting /sensitive songs
- Johney Mera Naam (Pal bhar ke liye)
- Heer Ranjha (Yeh Duniya Yeh Mehfil Mere Kaam Ki Nahi )
- Prem Pujari (Phoolon Ke Rang Se Dil Ki Kalam Se)
What I like about song - Yeh Duniya Yeh Mehfil Mere Kaam Ki Nahi
I always feel Dev Anand wasted a nice song without any intellect picturization during Phoolon ke rang se
Singer : Mohammad Rafi, Movie: Heer Ranjha, Music Director: Madan Mohan, Lyricist: Kaifi Azmi
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ttFCAGcI6Yk
- Well planned screen play & shooting, Intellect by Chetan Anand in each frame
- Reflecting the mood & situation using the places and deep expressions of RajKumar!
- The places are like forest, desert, Himalaya, temples and masjid; costume of Mullah and Monk!
Yeh Duniya Yeh Mehfil /Rafi/Heer Ranjha/Madan Mohan/Kaifi Azmi
Usko khuda mile hai jine khuda ki talaash, muzko to bas zalak mere yaar ki mile
Another movie and star, king of acting I would like to mention about Dilip Kumar, and song from Movie
Aadmi. Why is Dilipkumar rated One & only ONE!
Aaj Purani Raahon Se Koi Mujhe - Aadmi (1968): Shakeel B, Naushad, Mohd. Rafi and Dilip Kumar!?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rdl7qIzxnNc
Observe each frame & expression! While song played, bringing such deep emotions on face is not eazy!
Shireesh Kanekar titled his article "You act while pretending not crying"
Many actors tried imitating Dilip Kumar like Rajendra, Manoj, Amitabh, Shahrukh, etc. King is only one!
Another great actor and villain Pran has impressed me with these emotions; what an involvement with
the role! He was a really Pran (Soul) of cinema. Manoj Kumar offered a role remembered for a life time,
later Prakash Mehra did the same magic in Zanjeer. It has been observed that Pran was a real recognized
villain, no one in India dared to name a child as Pran. He was one and only one!
Looking at the deep sensitive emotions at their faces in each frame I keep thinking is it director or an
actor or both who makes it possible & happen? If it was a retake, till actor needs to pull the expressions
& emotions on their faces with the same or better intensity. How is it possible? Dilip Kumar simply
walking on sea-shore turns a simple song into emotional piece in the movie and pulls the story ahead.
I have intense memory of following songs during childhood
Hum tum Jodi se , bandhe ek dori se Dharti kahe
pukar ke
Mere desh ki dharti from Upkar
Chingari koi bhadake from Amr Prem Phirki wali tu kal phir aana – Raja aur Rank
Sawan ka mahina, pawan kare sor from Milan Taqat watan ki ham se hai – Prem pujari
Ek pyar ka nagma hai Chhup Gaye Sare Nazare Oye Kya Baat Ho Gayi
Bagome bahar hai Hum chhupe rustum hai
Samjauta gamo se kar lo Teri galiyo me na rakhenge Kadam
Jis gali me tera ghar na ho balma Chal chal chal mere haathi
Nafrat ki duniya ko chhodkar Hum tum ek kamare me band ho
Dil aisa kisi ne mere toda Ye duniya ye mehfil
Baharo phool barsao from Suraj Tumhi o mata pita tumhi o
Sajan re jhoot mat bolo Sayonara..sayonara..wada nibhaungi
My uncle used to sing…zumka gira re Mere samne wali khidki me
Sansar ki harshay ka itna hi fasana hai Jyot se jyot jaga ke chalo
Barakha rani jara jamke baraso My heart is beating
Hai re hai, nind nahi aay Parde me rahne do Parda na uthao
I like a song Lataji sung on demand of L. K. Adwani Deputy PM, Jyoti kalash chhalke. There is an intense
memory of the songs liked by my mother. Whenever I hear those, I remember her liking about those.
She also used to sing occasionally, like Dekh tere sansar ki halat kya
ho gayi bhagwan, kitana badal gaya insaan! She liked 2 mischievous
songs of Dev Anand top in Binaca geet Mala, Dheere se jana khatiyan
me and hamara naam banarasi babu! Few others songs were Tan
dole mera man dole..on Bin (plute). O jane wale ho sake to laute ke
aana; Jara samne to aao chhaliye-chhup chhup darne me kya raj hai;
Jadugar saiyya chhodo meri baiyya, etc
March 1973 Rajesh Khanna marriage was huge and a big news,
all the newspapers displayed the news with photo of marriage
on front page. I remember photo published on front page in
LokSatta, Marathi newspaper, mostly it was Sunday. I had
heard that girls used to send the letters to him written using
their blood to Rajesh Khanna.
We have watched many movies as “together first time with friend” during engineering like CID, Mughal-
e-Azam at Vijay theatre, 23 Jun at Deccan, Jewel Thief at Natraj, etc. I have watched many movies alone
too at morning show like Khamoshi (Rajesh) at Shreenath at 9:0 am show and Jab pyar kisi se hota hai
(at Ratan 10 am show) etc. I watched Amardeep of Rajesh at Aaryan, oldest theatre of Pune.
In 1979 I shifted to Pune for Engineering. My first movie
watched in Pune is Golmaal at Neelayam theatre with my
brother.
We also went to Gunjan talkies to watch Sangam, a late
night show at 9:0 pm with his medico friends. It was 1:0
am movie was finished. We walked the roadside at
midnight from Gunjan to BJ Medical hostel.
During engineering college days there will a test on every Monday. I will study post dinner on Sunday till
test time 9:0 am Monday; score highest in weekly test during 3rd
& 4th
year of engineering; later I will
have a lunch, go to matinee movie, come back & sleep, wash the clothes, have snacks, dinner & then go
for evening movie or drama on Monday. This routine lasted for 2 years. There was a time, I had watched
all movies in Pune displayed in 39 theatres. Me along with friends checked and browsed again and again
in newspaper if we could decide if any movie is left to watch. Later we found one theatre at Pimpri,
Khilona was re-released. We went to see the movie. It was one of the worst theatres in Pune area.
My brother used to write letters to Vijay Anand and Shashi Kapoor. He got response from Shashi Kapoor,
a post card size photo of handsome Shashiji along with a catalogue of movie Janwar aur Insaan. When
you open the catalogue, tiger will move towards a photo of Shashiji holding a gun.
My brother got engaged. My sister-in-law visited Pune prior to marriage to meet her sister. I went with
her to watch a movie Satte pe Satta, again at Neelayam.
Lastly my love, respect to Dev Anand and in particular Goldie due to his intense super super intelligence.
I saw all of his movies, directed as well as acted. I recently developed a hobby of capturing story flow of
the movies, and dialogues. Here are the samples. I miss him disparately like many others. What a strong
mind, simple living, clarity of thinking, and confidence. I do watch few movies as many times Johney
Mera Naam, Guide, Tere Mere Sapne, Jewel Thief, Deewana Mastana, Mugal-E-Azam, Oh My god, etc. I
watched first English & Bond’s movie Spy who loved me during engineering. I recently watched few
motivational English movies and English TV serial 24, all seasons till date.
I penned a story of 3 characters (teacher, Doctor, Politician & Smuggler) , capturing few life time lessons
to be learnt. But where is the director, dialogue and screen play writer like Goldie?
When I spoke to Goldie on landline, I said I like your films, he asked which one I like the most..and
smiled; I said "Tere mere sapne" though people like Guide! It is unbelievable and surprise to see at 21 he
directed film Nau Do Gyarah and at 26 he wrote dialogues & screen play of Hum Dono
Guide remains number 1 of Bollywood, by all means its Goldie's movies & his intellect

Bollywood surely gifted with the extra-ordinary talent, sharp clarity of thinking and simplicity of Goldie,
sensitivity of Chetan Anand and tremendous energy and deep passion of handsome Dev Anand with his
style. Unfortunately we did not see the continuity with next generations.
Below dialogues of Hum Dono can offer you a taste of Goldies sharp, clear and strong thinking, while he
was just at 26-27. Real sensitivity of Goldie was observed during Tere Mere Sapne. Its sad later his
tracked got changed until again acted in serial Tehkikat.

I have jotted down a story plot of a movie and hope it gets adapted. Also I have drawn sketches of
events in my life including childhood. I intend to share those with producers. Hope the methodology as
well as events get captured in a movie story some other day.
Later watching movies became integral part of life. Post study and having achieved financial goal &
career growth, now I developed studying at depth the movie story, reviews, personalities, their thinking,
movie making, story writing, screen play, direction, songs & music and their integration, etc. It is all fun.
I keep watching Classic serials by Hon. Javed Akhtar and keep the notes of movie names. I have
purchased thousands of VCDs/DVDs for collection, Thanks to YouTube now, and other streaming
channels, movies are handy and can be watched any hour.
Movie script The Turning point (of a student)
http://www.slideshare.net/rrakhecha/movie-script-66389377
Also I prepared a presentation capturing my life, so that one can develop a biopic story and write
dialogues based on https://www.slideshare.net/rrakhecha/turning-point-lifestoryofastudentpart-1
I also spread the innovative idea of making movie by equity participation
https://www.slideshare.net/rrakhecha/movie-investmentequity
I also published a document – 100 movies to watch before you die categorizing the type of movie.
Just 100 movies list is not enough and expanded it including type and rating to 600 and later to 800.
https://www.slideshare.net/rrakhecha/600-bollywoodmovies-watchbeforeudie
I did write a script for TV serial #quiz Bollywood-ko-janiye
https://www.slideshare.net/rrakhecha/bollywoodkojaniye
I liked another beautiful star and captured an album, https://goo.gl/photos/EfqjgubZLz567FfM6
And uploaded a video Go mad at Madhuri Dixit https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CRBbjkAMgNo
I did like Rajesh Khanna however he could not maintain his gracefulness. He taught us how to retire
gracefully while on the peak of success. It was an era of Rajesh Khanna, what the deep emotions poured
by simple act - Kab tutegi uske ghayal hoton ki khamoshi. Only Superstar of Indian Cinema Rajesh
Khanna The First Indian Super Star Will Remain in our Hearts Forever
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j92S2GOXLfE
Same thing is applicable to Dev Anand, post Des-Pardes since 1978 to 2011 he kept producing films but
not at all intelligent, and up to the mark comparable closest to past. Even Gracefulness was not
observed. Whereas Dilip Kumar continued acting and delivering the best performances like Shakti.
Story of Bollywood cannot be completed without mention many giants. Few giants will always remain as
giants and forever. Naming few will be insult to others. Ashok Kumar, Dilip Kumar, Raj Kapoor, Dev
Anand, Raj Kumar, Rajesh Khanna, Manoj Kumar, Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjeev Kumar, Naseeruddin,
Irfan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Rishi Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Pran, Nutan, Vaijanti, Waheeda, Asha, Madhuri,
Sridevi, Jaya Prada, Kareena, Alia Bhat, and many more in hundreds and thousands. It has tremendous
talent of story & dialogue writers like Saleem Javed, Music directors like Laxmikant-Pyarelal, Kalyanji-
Anandji, SD & RD, Lyricists Anand Bakshi, Majrooh, Pradeep, Singers like Kishor, Lataji, Rafi, Mukesh,
directors like K Asif, Chetan Anand, Goldie, Hrishikeshda, Bimal Roy, Satyajit Ray, Suraj Badjatya, Ramesh
Sippy, etc and many many more. Also events have been brought to us by media like filmfare, madhuri,
rasrang, newspapaers, and now a days TV channels.
I most like the following top 18 movies, and amazed to see talent of each stake holder! Salute to all!
Its amazing to see thousands songs composed like Jaha dal dal par sone ki chidiya karati thi basera, or
kasme wade pyar wafa, Jindagi kaisi hai paheli , ye mere watan ke logo, waha kaun hai tera, mere desh
ki Dharati, kar chale ham fida, etc.
It is said that India is bound with two things Bollywood and Cricket, its absolutely true! Thank you
Bollywood for keeping me engaged and brining happiness & joy in my life!

MyBollywood-Memories_Love

  • 1. My love, my childhood..my hobby…Bollywood memories I try to remember when did I get acquainted with Hindi Cinema World, Bollywood first time as a child? I faintly remember and mostly it was the first incidence. We were living at Shirpur town in North Maharashtra, district Dhule. Shirpur was of 40,000 population and having 2 theatres then Bhandari Chitra Mandir owner by our neighbor and friend of my elder brother Raju Bhandari and Datta Chitra Mandir. There were 2 open theatres at near villages Raj Talkies, at Arthe and other was at Shevgaon, one just opposite to S P D M College, a little outskirt of Shirpur. There used to be 2 shows, from 6:0 pm to 9:0 pm and second from 9:0 pm to 12:0 pm. I was 10 years old, in 5th standard then. I had moved from Yashwant Prarthamik Vidyalaya (basic elementary school) to P B M high School, having English as one of the subjects. We had annual examination starting from Monday. It was Sunday evening. I went to watch Johney mera naam. Second day was English examination paper. I did well, got 84 marks out of 100! I distinctly remember haircut of Dev Anand, and his Saffron color jacket. I remember a scene in which Hema Malini puts the revolver at back of Dev Anand. There was a reason; my cousin had a keychain having a film inside it of the same picture. Brother-in-law of my sister was gifted in dowry a record player. It had an arrangement of holding many records at a time. It had record of Johney Mera Naam, and I had enjoyed listening all the songs of JMN then. Keychain Posture Posture (could not find similar, not exact) There is a story associated with this film. There was a competition among the theatre owners who would display the latest movie at the earliest. During fair of Shirpur town, this business was a crowd pulling since many villagers visiting to fair would also watch the movies. A owner of Raj Theatre of Arthe village did a trick by cheating. He put the posture (banner) of Johney Mera naam however was displaying Mera Naam Joker. My brother with his friends went to watch the movie on cycle. He was late to return. My father was worried and angry. I learnt he shouted at him.
  • 2. My second memory goes to Kati Patang. My aunty was living at a village namely Untawad, close to our town. She was a regular viewer of Hindi Cinema. She will ride a bullock-cart and visit to the theatre. So my mother and aunty along with me went to watch Kati Patang. It was release at Mumbai on 29th Jan 1971. Theatre owners will get the movie, the reel of the movie in film format in a tin box called peti from the distributors at Bhusawal or Amarawati. It used to take 9 months to 15 – 18 months to show in theatres of our town. So it might be 1972, I was 10 then. I distinctly remember, songs ye jo mohbbat hai, and Asha Parekh in white saree singing Na koi Umang hai, and lastly Jis Gali me tera ghar na ho balma… I have one more memory of visiting to see a name board at tailor shop. His name was famous tailor. He had displayed painting of Rajesh Khanna having pose of song Ye sham mastani! We used to call owner of a shop as master tailor. My brother danced on song ye jo mohhabat hai, & fetched huge 100 Rs reward. Song scene Song scene Song & Painting I will be paid Rs 1 to see one movie in one month. Ticket rates shall be front and floor – 65 Paisa, Benches with & without back – 85 Paisa, and Balcony for Rs 1 and 10 paisa. When movie is declared as tax free, it will be 30, 50 and 65 Paisa respectively. I also remember sometimes it used to be front-floor at 15 paisa. I missed to watch Janwar aur Insaan at 30 paisa since I had watched some other movie in that month. Visiting to all theatres daily : While in standard 5th , school will have a mid-day break for 30 minutes. I along with 2 friends will visit to theatre to see which film is to be screened, and the postures of new films; These theatres were in market so our route shall be from school to theatre 1, to market, then 2nd theatre and then 3rd theatre and then home for brunch (breakfast). And chat about new releases, box office success, hero-heroin, their gossip, etc while walking on this route. That was a great routine. Various new postures displayed at Datta Talkies
  • 3. Next to our shop there was a pan wala. Theatre owners will ask him to hang the small postures at his shop since it was a central place for publicity. Few postures also used to be displayed at the theatres. Screen : My brother used to borrow Screen Cine NEWS paper from his friend who is an owner of Bhandari Chitra Mandir. He will try to hide it below pillow cover, which I will find and read. I remember full screen advertisement of Nawab aur Shabab (Sharab word was replaced due to emergency control), Mr.John, Shareef Badmaash, Chhupa Rustum, Banarasi Babu, Des-Pardes; etc. I did post questions to be answered in a forum twice. I did send few times questions out of which 2 questions were published Collection of Dev Anand photos : My brother used to collect photos of Dev Anand, I remember many photos, but distinctly remember these. One just mentioning Directed by and full pose photo below. With digital world and connecting with social networking websites I have now collected more than 2000 photos of Anand families. https://goo.gl/photos/7sKXoXxQPTQbzrLK9 and https://photos.app.goo.gl/YnHmpGoka1JRXyeBA Visiting to liabrary daily : There was one more routine to visit Municipal Library at around 9:0 am when school time used to be 11:0 am till 5:0 pm. I will read .. not front news but last and second last page of Marathi and English news papers like Kesari, Maratha (from Pune), Maharashtra Times and Loksatta (Mumbai). On which movies released, in which week it was running, and list of theatres will be mentioned. I distinctly remember Joshila running 32 cinema hall in second week, that used to be considered as a huge success. Other movies I remember are Heera Panna for 8th week at Empire, Prem Shashtra for 5 weeks and Ishq-Ishq-Ishq for 3 weeks. I remember advertisement of Joshila in newspaper showing Dev Anand both hands in front pockets, that was a fashion then. 8 week of run, song topping in Binaca 5 weeks of run, positive review in newspaper Ran 32 theatres 2nd week 3 weeks of run, major flop
  • 4. Every Saturday movie review shall be published. I remember a title and review of Prem Shastra, “Wadhatya rangaticha chatakdar – Pram Shashtra” I do have a cutting from Loksatta. In Kesari there will be many advertisements of movies including one running during matinee, along with small photo of hero or heroine, name of movie and theatre. I remember advertisement of Baat Ek Raat ki, and photo of Dev Anand. Prabhat news paper used to publish on Thursday itself release of old-new movies which was helping us to plan better like we watched Guide at Neelayam, Albela, Hum Dono at vasant, etc In the market one guy used to sell a small booklet of songs at 10-15 paisa. I remember brother having purchased few & I learnt by heart these songs Amar Prem (Chingari koi bhadake), Prem Pujari (Taqad watan ki hamse hai),and Upkar (Mere desh ki Dharati) I watched many other movies…having some distinct memories associated with Gopi (70) – There was craze of Dilip Kumar among brothers and friends. The day Gopi was released in our town, it was a talk of the town. Mere Mehboob (63) and Mere Apne (71) – My sister along with me started walking towards Datta Talkies where Mere Apne was shown. Then she realized that at Bhandari Chitra mandir, mere Mehboob was being shown. I was interested in movie with a fighting. She tried convincing me that Mere mehboob has a hero Rajendra Kumar and is a chocolate hero. We went to see. I was waiting for fighting scene, repeatedly asking to my sister when would fighting scene will come? I saw owner of Bhandari Chitra Mandir before end of cinema was standing behind. I remember distinctly having told him that kya bandle movie bata rahe ho, kuch bhi fighting scene nahi hai Dushman (72) release was a topic of discussion in a town; when movie was shown in the Bhandari theatre! It was another movie my elder sister took me with her. I was 10 years old. This was post her marriage. We both went to my uncle’s house to meet him since he fell and fractured his leg. Later we went to see movie. Uncle said, it was a nice movie, wada tera wada! We friends used to discuss the dialogues of the movie, chacha, ye tractor muze de do , mai is khet ki aisi ki taisi kar dunga! I remember trying to imitate his hair style, & hairband style like many others! Only a super star of Bollywood, what a success he has enjoyes. It needs guts to digest such a huge success. Rajesh did 180 films - 163 feature films and 17 short films. By 2011, he held record for maximum number of films as the solo lead hero and least number of multi star cast films in Hindi Cinema. Of the 163 films - 106 were solo hero films and 22 were multi star films and 29 films had him in special effective guest appearances and 6 unreleased. A unique record of 21 platinum, 15 Golden Jubilee Hits and 4 silver silver jubilee hits and only 7 flops in 9 years. He also made the world record of having 17
  • 5. successive super-hits in 3 years from 1969-71 which included 15 consecutive solo super-hit films and 2 two hero films namely Andaz and Maryada. Those 15 consecutive hit solo lead hero films from 1969-71 were Aradhana, Doli, Bandhan, Ittefaq, Do Raaste, Khamoshi, Safar, The Train, Kati Patang, Sachaa Jhutha, Aan Milo Sajna, Mehboob Ki Mehendi, Choti Bahu, Anand and Haathi Mere Saathi. His next release Maalik flopped ending thereby the record.. Haathi mere saathi (71) – This movie was shown very late and print quality was too very bad. It was many times discontinued while showing. There were lines & scratches on the screen. My mother & I went to watch this movie. We both cried at the end. After few years later again new print was released and I saw it again. There were many new scenes were existing which were cut due to bad print. Tere Mere Sapne (71) at Barwah: I went to attend marriage at sister’s place. It was a hobby to visit the market and theatres of a town to see the postures of the films. I saw postures of 2 movies, Jai Bangla Desh and tere Mere Sapne. I went to watch the evening show with my cousin. I was waiting for the song, maine tere liye hi saat rang ke sapne chune” thinking TMS has it. Later I realized that song belongs to famous emotional movie Anand of Rajesh Khanna. I wrote a blog on TMS as The most sensitive movie http://www.twitlonger.com/show/n_1sqgb6a Out of few most liked movies, TMS is surely on the top like Guide & Muhgal-E-Azam I said " Tere mere sapne" when Goldie asked me “Achha...aapke meri konsi film achhi lagati hai?” Excellent and Very strong story, dialogue, screen play, music, acting, direction! Sapno ke tut Jane see aadmi nahi tut jata... Apne bare me bhi kuch kaho...tum Kya ho...doctory ke peshe par ek dhabba. Jaganath Kothari, mbbs Bombay mrcog london...Jinake bharose unko jindagi ki ummid ho sakati hai wo nasheme chur pada hai... Each frame is unique in this 1 minute scene...no other film in Bollywood has such an intense scene !...I have watched multiple times, studied facial expressions, dialogue delivery, screen play, and all aspects...should be included in syllabus.. Tere mere sapne is one of the most sensitive films in Bollywood produced and directed by Vijay Anand, with excellent acting by all actors including Vijay Anand himself and Dev Anand, and one of the best roles delivered by Mumtaz. There is an idealist doctor, who wants to work in the villages. There is a woman school teacher who teaches in the village school. It is a meeting of minds. She inspires him to study further. Unfortunately a mishap happens when the idealist couple loses their child because of a road accident. They go to the city. The doctor gets corrupted by the ways of the city. His wife leaves him. The doctor realizes his folly and returns to the village.
  • 6. A parallel theme of 2 doctors, 1 has been addict to alcohol while at that time other is ideal , passionate to serve society and having dreams while later situation reversed.. first Dr. Played by Vijay Anand Dr. Jagan Kothari turns ideal, simple and other doctor gets I to noshia of money, greed and fame! The appeal of the music was enhanced by the way Vijay Anand filmed the songs as only he could. It made a socio-political statement. Music by SD, heart touching songs by Neeraj, and The appeal of the music was enhanced by the way Vijay Anand picturized the songs as only he could. Jarurat (72) – First movie of Reena Roy, there was a scene friend will talk about, “tis rupaye me ek raat” (one night for 30 Rs), Not sure if I knew or understood the meaning of this then. We will visit back side of theatre to collect the cut films of the reel which were thrown while machine operator will run the dummy run in theatre and assure the continuity. Malik (72) – My mother & I went to see this movie. After marriage rajesh Khanna and Sharmila Tagore are sleeping together. My mom asked me, are they husband wife in real life too? Shareef badmaash (73) – Our economic condition had deteriorated from rich to poor. Rs 1 for one month used to be huge expense. I wanted to watch the movie and requesting my mother for money. I
  • 7. have read in Screen that in first week it had collection of 8,52,000 (I do not remember exactly last 3 digits), and Dev Anand with shackles in his hands. I kept crying, took hammer and hit many times to the lock of wooden cupboard so that I can break it and take money. Poor mother was watching, must have felt pity that she did not had Rs 1 for his child to watch a movie. Those marks were seen till recently we disposed that cupboard. I remember the display of screen photo as below Raja Jani (72) – during fair at Shirpur this movie was shown. In town they will make publicity taking the psotures on 4- wheeler cart announcing using loud speaker. At the same time Marathi movie of V Shantaram was also successfully shown Pinjara. Heera Panna (73) – I still remember a small posture of Dev Anand just sitting nervous when everyone departs from him. Jugnu (73) – Pair of Dharmendra and Hema Malini was very popular. There was a list of 25 movies of Hema Malini published in one of the Marathi Cine Magazine, Rasrang, 25th Movie if my memory cell still holds the right data, was Prem Nagar. We will also debate why Hema Malini does not want to do movies with Rajesh Khanna and vice a versa. Bobby (73) – We saw this movie in Chitra talkies of Jalgaon. My mother, all 3-4 aunties went to Jalgaon to attend marriage of my cousin (Fufa’s daughter). The movie was very successful, there was song played everywhere and around and all the time hum Tum Ek kamare me band ho. It was afternoon show, we sat in our places, movie started. And it was dark, one man came and sat in my mom’s lap. She was extremely sensitive about men’s touch to her body and started shivering. Throughout film she was having concerns. One of other aunts was laughing to her sensitivity. Bidaai (74) – Song was very popular, mera sasara bada paise wala, I watched this movie with my mother. Social movies used to be equal popular and successful. Sholay (75) – I was in nineth standard and friend who used to be top in class narrated a story of Sholay to us in school, he happened to watch it at Nashik so had an upper hand and proud. Due to restriction of one movie per month, there will be dilemma few times which movie I should pick up, Mastana (of Mehmood) or Do Aankhe Barah Hath? Or Ghar Ghar ki kahani? Once my brother suggested to see Dil Ek mandir to me and my mother. It was a bit surprising. We both went to watch it. However that was not an age to understand the sensitivity of Dil Ek Mandir.
  • 8. Once while purchasing vegetables, I saw a colorful posture of a movie made of tin plate. I tried to read, it was Mughal-E-Azam. It was different than displayed below. Both Dilip Kumar & Prithviraj Kapoor shown in opposite direction. I cannot believe even today that film like Mughal-E-Azam can be produced in India. Look at the series of the events, huge sets, dialogues, continuity, screenplay, acting, music, songs, direction, and what not! Salute to determination, perseverance and passion of K Asif, a director. Alankar theatre opening: Later there was one more theatre came namely Alankar theatre. First movie displayed was Tangewala of Rajendra Kumar. It ran for a quiet few weeks, second movie was Jeet. Later they displayed movie Shor. There is a related memory. My cousin sister just was married and returned first time form in-laws place to aunty’s place. She offered to party and take her brothers & sisters to movie Shor. I was anticipating that she would offer me too, but did not offer. Opening movie Emotional movie Alankar Talkies Alankar Talkies Few postures were displayed, one of those of Warrant. I could not find exact posture which also has small photo of Dev Anand running using skets. I remember two radio advertisements, Warrant – “kanoon ke raksha ke liye, kanoon se ladha” and “Dharati ke upar baraf, aur baraf ke niche sona, kise pata hai..Chhupa Rustum One of my friends Anil Agrawal used to imitate Randhir Kapoor, including his hair style. I too tried both hair style one of Dev Anand and other was of Rajesh Khanna, which was a bit difficult. Nagin (76) : was released in open theatre. I watched at theatre. It was summer. We used to sleep on terrace. During last show we could hear entire movie & dialogues and could not sleep for entire period.
  • 9. Chor Machaye Shor (74) – Wonderful pair of Shashi & Mumtaz and nice music, watched at Alankar; “teri maa ko apni maa kahoo” Many movies were using repeat punch line as a branding! My mother & father had watched a movie together when visited another neighborhood Taluka place Amalner, I faintly remember name of movie was Kanyadan (Shashi Kapoor, Nanda). She was scared thinking story can repeat for her. My father had watched Sholay at Shrirampur while My other sister was crazily in love with Bollywood Cinema, particularly after marriage. She had gone to watch movie directly to theatre while visiting us post marriage. There is a sad memory related to a movie Chori-chori. A charity show was arranged by Rotary. I was invited by a friend Sham living opposite to our house. He later died at young age due to brain tumor. This movie always reminds me of him, and vice a versa. Selling ticket in interval: We were given a pass if we get out of theatre during interval. Retail Sellers were selling pea-nuts, Watermelon seeds, etc etc outside. We used to either buy or sell pass in around half the price of ticket. It may be 30 paisa to 50 paisa depending our ticket cost and how good/bad movie was and its closing climax at the end. I remember selling Gate pass at 30 paisa for the movie Paras. The song “Tere hothon ke do ful pyare pyare” was popular. Waited release & watched Joshila, Bullet (Many cuts due to emergency control,) Amir Garib, Des-Pardes Fair business Discontinuity of story Successfully ran Successfully ran I used to curiously watch the postures from the bus while travelling from one town to other from the window of the bus or train. It was HRHK Hare Rama Hare Krishna movie release during 71, I adopted a walking style of Devanand in school so friends started quoting me Devanand. Teacher once said, why I do not walk straight-line, and walk like a camel in chess! Binaca : One of my uncles was staying in neighbor building. I will visit every Wednesday at 8:0 pm to 9:0 pm. We often used to discuss during school days about Binaca geet mala, which song stood first, which star had how many songs, etc There was a time when there were 5 songs from movies of Dev Anand!(6-7th std - 1973)
  • 10. Those include Shareef Badmash, Chhupa Rustum and Banarasi babu! Banarasi babu - Bure Bhi Hum Bhale Bhi Hum (Top) - Mere Peeche Ek Ladki - Koi Koi Raat Aisi Hoti Hai Chhupa Rustam - Dheere Se Jaana Khatiyan Mein (Alternate Top) - Bolo Kya Humko Doge - Hum chhupe rustam hain Shareef Badmash - Neend Chura Ke Raaton - Tere Sau Deewane Juthe Parvane - Main Nikal Jaoonga We used to note using pen and notebook the listing of the songs played during annual Binaca Geetmala. In 1970 Anand brothers gave 3 movies with very interesting /sensitive songs - Johney Mera Naam (Pal bhar ke liye) - Heer Ranjha (Yeh Duniya Yeh Mehfil Mere Kaam Ki Nahi ) - Prem Pujari (Phoolon Ke Rang Se Dil Ki Kalam Se) What I like about song - Yeh Duniya Yeh Mehfil Mere Kaam Ki Nahi I always feel Dev Anand wasted a nice song without any intellect picturization during Phoolon ke rang se Singer : Mohammad Rafi, Movie: Heer Ranjha, Music Director: Madan Mohan, Lyricist: Kaifi Azmi https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ttFCAGcI6Yk - Well planned screen play & shooting, Intellect by Chetan Anand in each frame - Reflecting the mood & situation using the places and deep expressions of RajKumar! - The places are like forest, desert, Himalaya, temples and masjid; costume of Mullah and Monk! Yeh Duniya Yeh Mehfil /Rafi/Heer Ranjha/Madan Mohan/Kaifi Azmi Usko khuda mile hai jine khuda ki talaash, muzko to bas zalak mere yaar ki mile
  • 11. Another movie and star, king of acting I would like to mention about Dilip Kumar, and song from Movie Aadmi. Why is Dilipkumar rated One & only ONE! Aaj Purani Raahon Se Koi Mujhe - Aadmi (1968): Shakeel B, Naushad, Mohd. Rafi and Dilip Kumar!? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rdl7qIzxnNc Observe each frame & expression! While song played, bringing such deep emotions on face is not eazy! Shireesh Kanekar titled his article "You act while pretending not crying" Many actors tried imitating Dilip Kumar like Rajendra, Manoj, Amitabh, Shahrukh, etc. King is only one! Another great actor and villain Pran has impressed me with these emotions; what an involvement with the role! He was a really Pran (Soul) of cinema. Manoj Kumar offered a role remembered for a life time, later Prakash Mehra did the same magic in Zanjeer. It has been observed that Pran was a real recognized villain, no one in India dared to name a child as Pran. He was one and only one! Looking at the deep sensitive emotions at their faces in each frame I keep thinking is it director or an actor or both who makes it possible & happen? If it was a retake, till actor needs to pull the expressions & emotions on their faces with the same or better intensity. How is it possible? Dilip Kumar simply walking on sea-shore turns a simple song into emotional piece in the movie and pulls the story ahead.
  • 12. I have intense memory of following songs during childhood Hum tum Jodi se , bandhe ek dori se Dharti kahe pukar ke Mere desh ki dharti from Upkar Chingari koi bhadake from Amr Prem Phirki wali tu kal phir aana – Raja aur Rank Sawan ka mahina, pawan kare sor from Milan Taqat watan ki ham se hai – Prem pujari Ek pyar ka nagma hai Chhup Gaye Sare Nazare Oye Kya Baat Ho Gayi Bagome bahar hai Hum chhupe rustum hai Samjauta gamo se kar lo Teri galiyo me na rakhenge Kadam Jis gali me tera ghar na ho balma Chal chal chal mere haathi Nafrat ki duniya ko chhodkar Hum tum ek kamare me band ho Dil aisa kisi ne mere toda Ye duniya ye mehfil Baharo phool barsao from Suraj Tumhi o mata pita tumhi o Sajan re jhoot mat bolo Sayonara..sayonara..wada nibhaungi My uncle used to sing…zumka gira re Mere samne wali khidki me Sansar ki harshay ka itna hi fasana hai Jyot se jyot jaga ke chalo Barakha rani jara jamke baraso My heart is beating Hai re hai, nind nahi aay Parde me rahne do Parda na uthao I like a song Lataji sung on demand of L. K. Adwani Deputy PM, Jyoti kalash chhalke. There is an intense memory of the songs liked by my mother. Whenever I hear those, I remember her liking about those.
  • 13. She also used to sing occasionally, like Dekh tere sansar ki halat kya ho gayi bhagwan, kitana badal gaya insaan! She liked 2 mischievous songs of Dev Anand top in Binaca geet Mala, Dheere se jana khatiyan me and hamara naam banarasi babu! Few others songs were Tan dole mera man dole..on Bin (plute). O jane wale ho sake to laute ke aana; Jara samne to aao chhaliye-chhup chhup darne me kya raj hai; Jadugar saiyya chhodo meri baiyya, etc
  • 14. March 1973 Rajesh Khanna marriage was huge and a big news, all the newspapers displayed the news with photo of marriage on front page. I remember photo published on front page in LokSatta, Marathi newspaper, mostly it was Sunday. I had heard that girls used to send the letters to him written using their blood to Rajesh Khanna. We have watched many movies as “together first time with friend” during engineering like CID, Mughal- e-Azam at Vijay theatre, 23 Jun at Deccan, Jewel Thief at Natraj, etc. I have watched many movies alone too at morning show like Khamoshi (Rajesh) at Shreenath at 9:0 am show and Jab pyar kisi se hota hai (at Ratan 10 am show) etc. I watched Amardeep of Rajesh at Aaryan, oldest theatre of Pune. In 1979 I shifted to Pune for Engineering. My first movie watched in Pune is Golmaal at Neelayam theatre with my brother. We also went to Gunjan talkies to watch Sangam, a late night show at 9:0 pm with his medico friends. It was 1:0 am movie was finished. We walked the roadside at midnight from Gunjan to BJ Medical hostel. During engineering college days there will a test on every Monday. I will study post dinner on Sunday till test time 9:0 am Monday; score highest in weekly test during 3rd & 4th year of engineering; later I will have a lunch, go to matinee movie, come back & sleep, wash the clothes, have snacks, dinner & then go for evening movie or drama on Monday. This routine lasted for 2 years. There was a time, I had watched all movies in Pune displayed in 39 theatres. Me along with friends checked and browsed again and again in newspaper if we could decide if any movie is left to watch. Later we found one theatre at Pimpri, Khilona was re-released. We went to see the movie. It was one of the worst theatres in Pune area. My brother used to write letters to Vijay Anand and Shashi Kapoor. He got response from Shashi Kapoor, a post card size photo of handsome Shashiji along with a catalogue of movie Janwar aur Insaan. When you open the catalogue, tiger will move towards a photo of Shashiji holding a gun. My brother got engaged. My sister-in-law visited Pune prior to marriage to meet her sister. I went with her to watch a movie Satte pe Satta, again at Neelayam.
  • 15. Lastly my love, respect to Dev Anand and in particular Goldie due to his intense super super intelligence. I saw all of his movies, directed as well as acted. I recently developed a hobby of capturing story flow of the movies, and dialogues. Here are the samples. I miss him disparately like many others. What a strong mind, simple living, clarity of thinking, and confidence. I do watch few movies as many times Johney Mera Naam, Guide, Tere Mere Sapne, Jewel Thief, Deewana Mastana, Mugal-E-Azam, Oh My god, etc. I watched first English & Bond’s movie Spy who loved me during engineering. I recently watched few motivational English movies and English TV serial 24, all seasons till date. I penned a story of 3 characters (teacher, Doctor, Politician & Smuggler) , capturing few life time lessons to be learnt. But where is the director, dialogue and screen play writer like Goldie? When I spoke to Goldie on landline, I said I like your films, he asked which one I like the most..and smiled; I said "Tere mere sapne" though people like Guide! It is unbelievable and surprise to see at 21 he directed film Nau Do Gyarah and at 26 he wrote dialogues & screen play of Hum Dono Guide remains number 1 of Bollywood, by all means its Goldie's movies & his intellect http://www.twitlonger.com/show/n_1sq6jcr Bollywood surely gifted with the extra-ordinary talent, sharp clarity of thinking and simplicity of Goldie, sensitivity of Chetan Anand and tremendous energy and deep passion of handsome Dev Anand with his style. Unfortunately we did not see the continuity with next generations.
  • 16. Below dialogues of Hum Dono can offer you a taste of Goldies sharp, clear and strong thinking, while he was just at 26-27. Real sensitivity of Goldie was observed during Tere Mere Sapne. Its sad later his tracked got changed until again acted in serial Tehkikat. Strong, clear, sharp dialogues of Hum Dono

  • 23. I have jotted down a story plot of a movie and hope it gets adapted. Also I have drawn sketches of events in my life including childhood. I intend to share those with producers. Hope the methodology as well as events get captured in a movie story some other day. Later watching movies became integral part of life. Post study and having achieved financial goal & career growth, now I developed studying at depth the movie story, reviews, personalities, their thinking, movie making, story writing, screen play, direction, songs & music and their integration, etc. It is all fun. I keep watching Classic serials by Hon. Javed Akhtar and keep the notes of movie names. I have purchased thousands of VCDs/DVDs for collection, Thanks to YouTube now, and other streaming channels, movies are handy and can be watched any hour. Movie script The Turning point (of a student) http://www.slideshare.net/rrakhecha/movie-script-66389377 Also I prepared a presentation capturing my life, so that one can develop a biopic story and write dialogues based on https://www.slideshare.net/rrakhecha/turning-point-lifestoryofastudentpart-1 I also spread the innovative idea of making movie by equity participation https://www.slideshare.net/rrakhecha/movie-investmentequity I also published a document – 100 movies to watch before you die categorizing the type of movie.
