2. I have arranged these pictures in order over a ten year period
This first lot of images is centred around the occupation of driving. I really enjoy this
occupation. Whilst living in the United Kingdom I drove to Scotland at least twice
and loved driving on the English roads. The speed limit on the open road there is
70mph which for me made driving a thrilling occupation.
3. This occupation I believe helped stretch my mental and occupational self. It was while I was
living in the United Kingdom that I got a job working on Heathrow Airport. The occupation was
as store man and I was responsible for machinery and for looking after staff needs. It was a big
responsibility and one I felt stretched me to consider not just my needs but those of the fifty
other persons working on the site.
4. After working at Heathrow airport I went on to retrain in plumbing and did a fast track course
that ran for a year. It was a scary learning curb. Again it stretched me and I believe, helped my
mind prepare for academic study. As I was working alone I took pictures and documented and
reflected on every job I did which helped me consider ways of doing the next job better.
5. As part of being self employed as a plumber I also did handyman work which
involved painting and decorating. I did not enjoy this occupation mainly because in
painting you see all the imperfections.
6. Photography has always been an occupation I have enjoyed. I love to capture the still
life and wonderful moments that live on within the bounds of a frame.
7. I have always enjoyed writing, mostly fiction and especially poetry. This piece is special to me.
This occupation is especially therapeutic for me and I have developed over a period of a
decade. I believe as an OT it will benefit me in regards to reflection.
Every morning, I wake and lie in the dim,
Silent cool;
Watching early light slip through ancient faded shutters
And I think; of you
Shards of dancing dreams tease and tantalize.
Floating softly I sigh and turn;
I push down the covers in restless longing to be
with you
As silent dawn turns to crowded day
noise fills my hours yet still I hold those quiet thoughts.
In that private place
where I keep; you.
8. I have always enjoyed the occupation of looking after a pet. It is an especially
enjoyable past time looking after an animal and developing a relationship unique to
being with them.
9. As my partner brings home the bacon one of my roles as a house – husband is the
housework. Again not an occupation that I especially enjoy but indeed part of my
occupational identity.
10. Music has always been a big part of my occupational identity. I mostly play by ear
but initially learnt the piano playing classical
11. Lastly this is where my occupational identity is mainly focused and will continue to develop as a
healthcare professional. The boot picture is from a workshop back in 2011 and the other
pictures are all from my placement in 2012 at North shore hospital. As I did not have direct
permission to take the picture in the bottom right, to protect their identities I have blocked
their faces.
