The narrator describes how as a child he was embarrassed by and resented his mother who had only one eye. He ignored and was cruel to her. As an adult, he received a letter from his deceased mother explaining that she had given her eye to the narrator as a child after he lost his eye in an accident, so he could see. The letter helped the narrator understand his mother's deep love and sacrifice for him.
