Kuala Lumpur was captured by Japanese forces during World War 2 but returned to British control in 1945 after Japan's surrender. Malaysia gained independence from Britain on August 31, 1957 under Tunku Abdul Rahman, celebrated with cries of "Merdeka!". The city faces environmental issues as endangered species like tigers and dholes lack sufficient water and food due to the large human population exceeding 1 million residents.

History On World War 2 Kuala Lumpur got captured by the Japanese army in the year 1942, but then in 1945 Japan surrendered Kuala Lumpur to the British, because of the atomic bomb in Japan going on. They got their independence from the British in the year 1957 on August 31. Tunku Abdul Rahman got their independence and now we are shouting “Merdeka!” 7 times to show the independence.
