ABOUT MARASA AFRICA
The story of our journey to Uganda started over a century ago and from humble beginnings our activities
have grown from strength to strength in Uganda and beyond. At the forefront of industrial development
and business, we are now one of the largest diversified private-sector employers in East Africa, employing
over 10,000 people and providing a livelihood and supporting, both directly and indirectly, over 150,000
individuals in Uganda alone.
Despite our diversity and size, our family business continues to be proudly African and we continue to
recognize the key values that have contributed to our success by embracing the stakeholders and
communities in which we operate as our destiny is entwined with theirs. We strive to engage with and
empower these communities and ensure that we may continue to grow hand in hand with them
wherever possible.
Our vision to share our breathtaking country to those from beyond our borders and even to far away
shores led us to acquire and develop what we felt to be locations of outstanding natural beauty. Each of
these properties also represents the combination of the very best of what there is to offer at these
destinations. All of our hospitality properties have been consolidated under Marasa Holdings, and as we
expect to grow, Marasa will be one of the largest providers of high quality, comfortable, charming safari
lodges in East Africa.
“When it comes to your personal journey to Uganda or Kenya, we invite you to experience the beauty of
these two incredible destinations in one of our unique and comfortable properties. Whether in planning
your entire trip or staying at one of our well-appointed lodges, we graciously welcome you to the safari
experience of a lifetime. Discover for yourself what has attracted us to this most awesome region for over
four generations!
Our mission is to put the 'extra' in the extraordinary and by having that very special longstanding presence
and passion for East Africa, we are sure to surprise and delight you! Karibu!"

AN INTRODUCTION TO
            QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARK

Queen Elizabeth National Park is understandably Uganda’s
most popular tourist destination.
The park’s diverse ecosystems, which include sprawling
savanna, shady, humid forest, sparkling lakes and fertile
wetlands, make it the ideal habitat for classic big game, ten
primate species including chimpanzees and over 600 species of
birds. Set against the magnificent backdrop of the jagged
Rwenzori Mountains, the park’s magnificent vistas include 72
enormous craters carved brutally into rolling green hills,
panoramic views of the Kazinga channel with its banks lined
with hippos, buffalo and elephants, and the endless Ishasha
plains, whose fig trees hide lions ready to pounce on herds of
unsuspecting Uganda kob.
QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL
                 PARK AT A GLANCE

Queen Elizabeth National Park covers 1,978km2

It spans the equator line; monuments on either side of the road
mark the exact spot where it crosses latitude 00

The park was founded in 1952 as Kazinga National Park, and
renamed two years later to commemorate a visit by Queen
Elizabeth II

The park is home to 95 mammal species and over 600 bird
species

The main vegetation habitats include forest, grassland, bushy
grassland, Acacia woodland, and lakeshore/ swamp vegetation

The Katwe explosion craters mark the park’s highest point at
1350 metres, while the lowest point is 910 metres, at Lake

QENP and over 600 bird species!

Birding in Queen Elizabeth National Park is an incredible treat as this is Uganda’s most popular and scenic park containing
a variety of habitats that range from savanna to wetlands to lowland forests. This diversity is reflected in the list of over
600 bird species, the biggest of any protected area in East Africa. A majority of the birds found in this area are regarded as
famous birds of East Africa and are a must see for birdwatchers
Tree Climbing Lions

Ishasha’s most famous residents – the tree climbing lions, lounge in fig and acacia trees while keeping a close
eye on herds of Uganda kob. It is also home to many buffalo and elephants – and offers a good chance of

lions found in only one other place in Africa!

  • 2. ABOUT MARASA AFRICA The story of our journey to Uganda started over a century ago and from humble beginnings our activities have grown from strength to strength in Uganda and beyond. At the forefront of industrial development and business, we are now one of the largest diversified private-sector employers in East Africa, employing over 10,000 people and providing a livelihood and supporting, both directly and indirectly, over 150,000 individuals in Uganda alone. Despite our diversity and size, our family business continues to be proudly African and we continue to recognize the key values that have contributed to our success by embracing the stakeholders and communities in which we operate as our destiny is entwined with theirs. We strive to engage with and empower these communities and ensure that we may continue to grow hand in hand with them wherever possible. Our vision to share our breathtaking country to those from beyond our borders and even to far away shores led us to acquire and develop what we felt to be locations of outstanding natural beauty. Each of these properties also represents the combination of the very best of what there is to offer at these destinations. All of our hospitality properties have been consolidated under Marasa Holdings, and as we expect to grow, Marasa will be one of the largest providers of high quality, comfortable, charming safari lodges in East Africa. “When it comes to your personal journey to Uganda or Kenya, we invite you to experience the beauty of these two incredible destinations in one of our unique and comfortable properties. Whether in planning your entire trip or staying at one of our well-appointed lodges, we graciously welcome you to the safari experience of a lifetime. Editor's Notes

  1. Mweya Safari Lodges elevated position presents visitors with gorgeous views of the Kazinga Channel and surrounding plains, as well as the Rwenzori Mountains. The peninsula’s proximity to Kasenyi and the North Kazinga plains means it is an ideal place to experience wildlife-filled game drives in the morning or evening
  2. A Spa in the bush? Indeed. Seize the moment and pamper yourself.
  3. The pool at Mweya Safari Lodge has a panoramic view of the Kazinga Channel, which separates Lake George and Lake Edward
  4. The Tembo Bar has panoramic views over looking the Kazinga channel and Lake Edward.
  5. Have your conference miles away from the hustle and bustle of the city., the 60 seater air conditioned conference room isfully equipped and has an elegant board-room to service all your business or workshop needs.
  6. Taking this boat tour from Mweya to the mouth of Lake George gives visitors the chance to stand just a few meters from the hundreds of enormous hippos and buffalos that spend their days cooling off in the water, while elephant families drink and bathe on the shoreline. Visitors can hope to see an average of 60 bird species during the trip, from the saddle-billed storks with their colourful beaks to vivid malachite kingfishers and pairs of elegant fish eagle
  7. The Kyambura River flows through this thick “underground forest”, 100 metres below the Kichwamba escarpment. The gorge is best known for its resident chimpanzees – some of which are habituated and can be tracked through the forest with trained UWA guides. While on your walk through the gorge, you may spot other primates and the many birds found in the forest. The entrance to the gorge is also a pleasant spot for a picnic.
