Muggle
Quidditch
3r ESO
This sport is from the popular Harry Potter books
(written by J. K. Rowling), which is meant to be
played on flying broomsticks.
Real-world fans have invented a land version
that nowadays it’s played all over the world:
Muggle Quidditch
It was created on 2005 and it’s mixed gender,
because a team can only have a maximum of
four players of the same gender on the field.
Goal
The goal is to score more points than the
opposing team when the snitch is caught.
Points
Goal: 10 points
Snitch: 150 points
In the match there are two teams of 7 players
riding brooms playing on a field with the size of
a hockey rink.
Each side is equipped with three big rings located
at a different height level.
The most common is playing it on land but there
are some versions that play it on skates in hockey
fields and in grass fields.
Very important: The player must remain on
his/her broom at all times during the match,
unless he/she has been eliminated by a Bludger.
Players
(They can change their roles unlimited times)
3 Hunters
They’re the responsible for passing the quaffle and
scoring points by throwing the quaffle through the
opponent's rings.
They’re identified
by a white ribbon.
When a hunter is hit by a bludger while carrying
the quaffle, he/she must drop it, dismount from
his/her broom, and return to one of his/her rings
before participating in the game again.
2 Strikers
They attempt to hit the opposing team's players
by throwing Bludgers to neutralize them, while
also trying to prevent the opposing team’s
Strikers from doing the same.
They’re identified by
a black ribbon.
1 Seeker
Tries to catch the snitch.
It’s identified by a yellow
ribbon.
They’re allowed to leave the field to search for it
while the match is going on.
1 Guardian
Has to prevent opponents from throwing, kicking
or otherwise passing the Quaffle through the
rings of his team.
Duration
There is no defined duration: The game is over when
the seeker catches the snitch.
Balls
Three different types of balls are used for the game:
One Quaffle (volleyball), two Bludgers (dodgeballs)
and one golden Snitch (tennis ball).
1 Quaffle
2 Bludgers
The Snitch
The Snitch is a tennis ball in a sock hanging from the
waist of a yellow snitch runner.
The most important ball during the match is the
golden snitch as the player on the team who
manages to catch it wins 150 points and the
game is automatically over.
My personal opinion
I think it's a very entertaining and funny game,
because of its strange rules, because the fact of
having to ride a broomstick all the time and
because of the snitch.
