How Race, Age and Gender Shape Attitudes Towards Mental HealthThinkNow
Mental health has been in the news quite a bit lately. Dozens of U.S. states are currently suing Meta for contributing to the youth mental health crisis by inserting addictive features into their products, while the U.S. Surgeon General is touring the nation to bring awareness to the growing epidemic of loneliness and isolation. The country has endured periods of low national morale, such as in the 1970s when high inflation and the energy crisis worsened public sentiment following the Vietnam War. The current mood, however, feels different. Gallup recently reported that national mental health is at an all-time low, with few bright spots to lift spirits.
To better understand how Americans are feeling and their attitudes towards mental health in general, ThinkNow conducted a nationally representative quantitative survey of 1,500 respondents and found some interesting differences among ethnic, age and gender groups.
Technology
For example, 52% agree that technology and social media have a negative impact on mental health, but when broken out by race, 61% of Whites felt technology had a negative effect, and only 48% of Hispanics thought it did.
While technology has helped us keep in touch with friends and family in faraway places, it appears to have degraded our ability to connect in person. Staying connected online is a double-edged sword since the same news feed that brings us pictures of the grandkids and fluffy kittens also feeds us news about the wars in Israel and Ukraine, the dysfunction in Washington, the latest mass shooting and the climate crisis.
Hispanics may have a built-in defense against the isolation technology breeds, owing to their large, multigenerational households, strong social support systems, and tendency to use social media to stay connected with relatives abroad.
Age and Gender
When asked how individuals rate their mental health, men rate it higher than women by 11 percentage points, and Baby Boomers rank it highest at 83%, saying it’s good or excellent vs. 57% of Gen Z saying the same.
Gen Z spends the most amount of time on social media, so the notion that social media negatively affects mental health appears to be correlated. Unfortunately, Gen Z is also the generation that’s least comfortable discussing mental health concerns with healthcare professionals. Only 40% of them state they’re comfortable discussing their issues with a professional compared to 60% of Millennials and 65% of Boomers.
Race Affects Attitudes
As seen in previous research conducted by ThinkNow, Asian Americans lag other groups when it comes to awareness of mental health issues. Twenty-four percent of Asian Americans believe that having a mental health issue is a sign of weakness compared to the 16% average for all groups. Asians are also considerably less likely to be aware of mental health services in their communities (42% vs. 55%) and most likely to seek out information on social media (51% vs. 35%).
AI Trends in Creative Operations 2024 by Artwork Flow.pdfmarketingartwork
Creative operations teams expect increased AI use in 2024. Currently, over half of tasks are not AI-enabled, but this is expected to decrease in the coming year. ChatGPT is the most popular AI tool currently. Business leaders are more actively exploring AI benefits than individual contributors. Most respondents do not believe AI will impact workforce size in 2024. However, some inhibitions still exist around AI accuracy and lack of understanding. Creatives primarily want to use AI to save time on mundane tasks and boost productivity.
Organizational culture includes values, norms, systems, symbols, language, assumptions, beliefs, and habits that influence employee behaviors and how people interpret those behaviors. It is important because culture can help or hinder a company's success. Some key aspects of Netflix's culture that help it achieve results include hiring smartly so every position has stars, focusing on attitude over just aptitude, and having a strict policy against peacocks, whiners, and jerks.

Google's Just Not That Into You: Understanding Core Updates & Search IntentLily Ray
1. Core updates from Google periodically change how its algorithms assess and rank websites and pages. This can impact rankings through shifts in user intent, site quality issues being caught up to, world events influencing queries, and overhauls to search like the E-A-T framework.
2. There are many possible user intents beyond just transactional, navigational and informational. Identifying intent shifts is important during core updates. Sites may need to optimize for new intents through different content types and sections.
3. Responding effectively to core updates requires analyzing "before and after" data to understand changes, identifying new intents or page types, and ensuring content matches appropriate intents across video, images, knowledge graphs and more.

Teks & foto Arris Riehady
2. ngin dingin terasa menusuk tulang begitu
saya turun dari pesawat Airbus A330-200
milik maskapai Garuda Indonesia. Salju
di Australia turun deras-derasnya ketika
di belahan dunia lain sedang kegerahan.
Penerbangan langsung dari Jakarta ke
Melbourne yang berdurasi sekitar enam
jam dengan keberangkatan pukul 23:30,
membuat saya dilema untuk memilih
antara tidur atau menikmati in-flight
entertainment dari maskapai pemenang
penghargaan World Best Economy Class
dan World Best Economy Class Seat dari
Skytrax tersebut. Karena beragamnya
pilihan hiburan, baik audio maupun film
panjang dan pendek, saya menyerah
dan memilih untuk menikmati hiburan,
walaupun setibanya di Melbourne nanti
harus dibayar dengan wajah kuyu karena
kurang tidur. Toh, Melbourne kota yang
terkenal akan kultur kedai kopinya, pikir
saya sambil berharap begitu mendarat
nanti, dapat mampir di salah satu kedai
kopi untuk memesan flat white.
Namun harapan tinggal harapan.
Berhubung tiba di Melbourne pada jam
sibuk, yaitu pukul 08:00, tempat parkir
pesawat di Bandara Internasional Melbourne
penuh, sehingga pilot harus memarkir
pesawatnya di area satelit yang tidak memiliki
fasilitas garbarata, sehingga butuh waktu
lebih lama untuk mentransfer penumpang ke
gedung terminal dengan bus. Sesampainya
karya JK Rowling. Ia meminta paspor dan
menyuruh saya menghadap kamera. Sambil
mencocokkan data dan foto, tanpa menatap
saya ia bertanya, “Anda mau ke mana?”, yang
saya jawab dengan Mount Buller. Seketika
wajahnya menoleh ke saya, senyum tampak
terukir di wajahnya. Keadaan langsung
mencair, ketika petugas tersebut kemudian
berceloteh tentang betapa indahnya Mount
Buller. “Good luck, mate, hope you can still
see the snow, because this is the last week
of winter,” ujarnya, seraya menyerahkan
kembali paspor saya.

Butuh 60 menit sebelum akhirnya saya
dapat keluar Terminal 2 dan menemukan
Jimmy Chen, sopir dari Aulia Coach yang
akan membawa saya ke Mount Buller.
Baru saja membenamkan tubuh di kursi
mobil yang empuk, Jimmy berkata, “Ada
beberapa hal yang perlu saya beritahukan.
Pertama, saya hanya akan mengantar Anda
sampai Mansfield untuk makan siang,
kemudian perjalanan ke Mount Buller akan
diteruskan naik bus shuttle. Kedua, karena
Anda datang di minggu terakhir di musim
dingin, kemungkinan besar salju telah mulai
mencair, sehingga kesenangan bermain ski
atau snowboarding di Mount Buller akan
berkurang, terutama jika nanti malam tidak
turun salju.”
Dua kali sudah saya mendapat peringatan
tentang datang di waktu yang salah – akhir
musim dingin memang sepertinya tidak
direkomendasikan untuk berkunjung ke
Mount Buller. Ketinggian Mount Buller
A
3. hanya 1.805 meter di atas permukaan laut,
di sepanjang musim dingin pada Juni hingga
September, seluruh permukaan kawasan ini
diselimuti salju tebal. Karena kemudahan
akses, salah satu kawasan ski resor terbaik
di Australia ini juga telah lama difavoritkan
warga Melbourne untuk bersantai di akhir
pekan selama musim dingin, berhubung salju
memang tidak turun di Melbourne.
Kekhawatiran saya menguap, seiring
dengan mobil yang melaju meninggalkan
Melbourne. Pemandangan di luar jendela
perlahan berganti dari deretan gedung
pencakar langit penuh manusia menjadi
perbukitan hijau yang dihuni biri-biri, sapi,
dan kuda. Perjalanan ke Mansfield hanya dua
jam dan dapat diperkirakan secara akurat
dengan GPS. Terlebih semua jalan di Australia
menggunakan speed limit yang dipantau CCTV
oleh Kepolisian agar tidak ada kendaraan yang
terlalu pelan apalagi yang terlalu kencang.
Di negara bagian Victoria, batas kecepatan
maksimum adalah 110 kilometer per jam.
Mansfield adalah kota kecil yang hanya
berpenduduk 4.360 jiwa dan letaknya tepat
di tengah-tengah antara Melbourne dengan
Mount Buller. Semua toko dan perkantoran
di sini - seperti layaknya banyak tempat di
Australia - tutup pukul 17:00. Namun khusus
di kota kecil ini, Jimmy mengatakan bahwa
masyarakatnya sangat senang menghabiskan
waktu bersama keluarga di rumah, dan
biasanya hanya keluar rumah untuk berkumpul
bersama kerabat di akhir pekan.
Saya tiba di Mansfield sekitar pukul 12:30
ketika suasananya tampak sepi tanpa terlihat
manusia berkeliaran di jalan-jalan. Bagai kota
mati, yang terlihat hanyalah deretan mobil
yang terparkir. Mungkin karena musim dingin
juga, sehingga warganya malas berkeliaran di
luar ruangan. Jimmy pun mengajak saya ke
The Produce Store, restoran yang menyatu
dengan toko kebutuhan pokok. Barulah
ketika memasuki toko ini terlihat keramaian
dan bahkan saya harus menunggu untuk
mendapatkan tempat duduk karena ketika
itu jam makan siang. Saya memesan sup
kaki domba, pai apel, dan segelas picollo.
Mengantuk dan lapar, agar tidak jatuh tertidur,
sambil menunggu pesanan datang, saya
berjalan-jalan melihat-lihat rak berisi cokelat,
wine, keju, hingga bumbu-bumbu yang dijual
di sini, dan tak sengaja menemukan sebotol
Kectjap Manis Indonesia buatan Belanda.
Burung Pembawa
Keberuntungan
Bila menggunakan bus shuttle dari Mansfield,
Mount Buller dapat ditempuh selama satu
jam, sehingga total yang dibutuhkan dari
Melbourne adalah tiga jam atau sekitar
243 kilometer. Kawasan resor ski di Mount
Buller terhampar pada ketinggian 1.600
hingga 1.800 meter di atas permukaan laut.
Nama Buller konon diambil dari panggilan
Major Sir Thomas Livingstone Mitchell,
seorang penjelajah yang pernah bekerja di
kantor urusan kolonial di Victoria pada 1800.
Namun sebagian masyarakat menyatakan
bahwa Buller diambil dari kata dalam bahasa
Aborigin, yaitu “bulla bulla” yang berarti baik.
Selesai makan, Jimmy mengantar saya
berjalan kaki ke halte bus yang tak jauh dari
The Produce Store. Di situ telah menanti Kate
Monahan,MediaandMarketingOfficerMount
Buller yang akan memandu saya selama di
kawasan pegunungan salju ini. Perjalanan ini
adalah atas undangan Australia Tourism yang
ingin memperkenalkan destinasi baru musim
dingin di negara bagian Victoria, berhubung
negara bagian ini paling terkenal di kalangan
pejalan Indonesia, sehingga perlu untuk
mengedukasi tentang tempat-tempat lain di
luar Melbourne.
Kate membawa saya ke Hotel Pension
Grimus yang letaknya hanya beberapa meter
dari bukit yang tertutup salju. Melihat salju
putih yang masih tebal menutupi bukit, saya
1

pun kegirangan. “Kalau saja kamu datang
lebih awal, salju sampai menutupi seluruh
desa. Jalanan, rumah, pohon, semuanya putih
tertutupi salju,” cerocos Kate.
Belum lima menit di kamar sehabis
meletakkan koper, terdengar ketukan pintu.
Dari balik pintu, Kate mengajak saya berjalan
keliling desa. Lupa dengan kantuk dan lelah,
saya langsung mengiyakan ajakannya untuk
menikmati Winter Wonderland di tengah
musim panas di belahan dunia lain. Hari
masih siang namun rasanya seperti sudah
hampir senja. Salju memang tidak terlalu
tebal, namun cukup untuk merasakan sensasi
bagai berjalan di dalam panorama yang kerap
dilukiskan di kartu-kartu Natal.
Kami melihat beberapa ekor flame robin
(Petroica phoenicae), sejenis burung gereja
berdada merah yang endemik Australia
berlompatan di ranting pohon. Menurut mitos
masyarakat setempat, burung tersebut hanya
muncul jika hujan salju datang. Kemunculan
burungtersebutsayaanggapsebagaipembawa
keberuntungan.
Jatuh Bangun
Snowboarding
Terbangun pagi itu, saya langsung melompat
dan membuka tirai jendela kamar. Ternyata
di luar hujan - sayangnya hujan air, bukan
salju seperti yang diharapkan. Dengan
kecewa, saya pun berjalan tanpa semangat
ke restoran untuk sarapan. Di meja dekat
jendela, tampak Kate telah sarapan lebih
dulu. Sambil menyeruput kopinya dengan
perlahan, ia menjelaskan bahwa sebenarnya
waktu terbaik ke Mount Buller adalah pada
Juli hingga Agustus. Namun pertengahan
Juni hingga akhir September, Mount Buller
rencana.
Benar saja, setelah sarapan saya
dikonfirmasi bahwa akan melakukan
snowboarding pagi itu. Untuk snowboarding,
diperlukan perlengkapan khusus berupa
jaket, celana, sarung tangan tebal, papan,
sepatu khusus, dan helm yang tersedia untuk
disewa (kecuali sarung tangan) di Grimus Ski
Tip
• Membawa tunai dolar
Australia yang cukup, karena
di Mount Buller tidak ada
gerai penukaran uang.
• Bila hendak membawa
kamera, pastikan sudah
freeze-proof, atau cukup
bawa action camera yang
lebih adaptif dengan cuaca
ekstrem.
• Membawa botol minum
untuk diisi ulang dari keran,
sehingga mengurangi
sampah plastik.
• Mount Buller merupakan
kawasan rentan, sehingga
pengunjung disarankan
untuk menghemat air mandi.
• Ski dan snowboarding
adalah aktivitas yang
memiliki risiko, sehinga
disarankan membeli
asuransi perjalanan sebelum
berangkat.
1. Walau suasana kotanya sepi, restoran ini
selalu ramai, terutama di jam-jam makan
siang 2. Taman kota Mansfield yang asri dan
tenang 3. Sup kaki domba, salah satu menu
favorit di The Produce Store 4. Peralatan ski

Centre tempat saya menginap. Sarung tangan tidak
disewakan untuk alasan higienis, namun tersedia
untuk dibeli seharga mulai 20 dolar Australia.
Pemilihan papan snowboarding pun ternyata tidak
sembarangan. Setiap orang harus memilih papan
yang tingginya tidak boleh melebihi bahu. Harga
sewa peralatan dan jasa instruktur snowboarding
selama dua jam mulai 20 dolar Australia. Usai
mengenakan jaket, celana, sarung tangan, dan
sepatu, yang serbatebal, tubuh mulai sulit bergerak.
Instruktur snowboarding saya pagi itu bernama
Danny Cahill, yang menurutnya saya nekat karena
sebagai pemula seharusnya saya memilih ski,
bukan snowboarding yang lebih susah. Ski lebih
mudah karena untuk keseimbangan akan dibantu
dengan tongkat, yang juga sebagai pengatur
kecepatan dan rem untuk menghentikan laju.
Sementara ketika melakukan snowboarding,
semuanya murni mengandalkan ketangkasan,
kekuatan, dan keseimbangan tubuh. Berbekal
pengalaman bermain skateboard, sandboarding di
Gumuk Pasir, Yogyakarta, surfing di Pantai Kuta,
serta menonton aksi snowboarding yang terlihat
mudah di YouTube, saya pun tak gentar mencicipi
snowboarding. Memang pada beberapa percobaan
pertama saya terjatuh dan bangkit dengan susah
payah untuk kembali berdiri di atas papan yang
ternyata sangat licin.
Butuh sekitar 30 menit penuh perjuangan
sebelum akhirnya saya dapat seimbang di atas
papan dan meluncur dengan benar. Untuk melaju,
berhenti, dan belok diperlukan kombinasi dari
kekuatan pergelangan kaki dan pinggul, serta
konsentrasi untuk mengalahkan rasa takut.
Apabila tak terkontrol, kecepatan luncurnya
dapat mencapai 80 kimometer per jam (rekor
dunia tercepat mencapai 203 kilometer
per jam!). Snowboarding dapat dilakukan
siapa saja, bahkan anak-anak mulai berusia
enam tahun sekalipun. Aktivitas ini aman,
asalkan mengikuti prosedur. Bila sudah
lancar, instruktur akan mengajak naik lift
ke ketinggian 300 meter untuk meluncur
dari lereng curam. Meski tak meliuk lincah
dan beberapa kali terjatuh, saya cukup
bangga dapat sampai ke bawah bukit, dan
mengulangi dua kali naik lift untuk meluncur.
Keberhasilan ini pun diapresiasi oleh Danny,
ia tak menyangka saya bisa ber-snowboarding
secepat itu. "Tahun depan kalau datang lagi
ke sini, kamu akan langsung jago!" katanya.
Kunjungan ke Mount Buller itu adalah
kali pertama saya menyentuh salju dan
melakukan olahraga musim dingin. Niat
Tourism Australia untuk memperkenalkan
aktivitas musim dingin kepada pasar
Indonesia sepertinya tepat sasaran, karena
sebagai warga negeri tropis yang ingin
mencoba hal-hal baru di tempat yang belum
terlalu terkenal secara internasional, Mount
Buller dapat dijadikan pilihan. Lagipula,
tentu akan menjadi pengalaman unik dapat
menikmati salju tebal ketika cuaca di tempat
asal sedang panas-panasnya.
HOW TO GET THERE
Dari Jakarta, Garuda Indonesia
(garuda-indonesia.com) melayani
penerbangan langsung ke
Melbourne setiap Senin, Rabu,
Jumat, dan Sabtu pukul 23:30.
Sesampainya di Melbourne, Mount

Terbang dengan helikopter adalah cara terbaik
untuk menikmati pemandangan Twelve
Apostles, formasi bebatuan berupa pilar
setinggi 50 meter di Great Ocean Road. Harga
sekali terbang mulai 145 dolar Australia per
orang selama 15 menit dan menempuh jarak
45 kilometer. Selama penerbangan, lewat alat
komunikasi khusus, pilot akan menerangkan
tentang berbagai hal yang dilewati, seperti
Twelve Apostles; Loch Ard Gorge, pantai
tersembunyi di balik dua pilar batu karang; The
Sentinel; The Arch; serta London Bridge, batu
karang bolong yang menyerupai jembatan.
Meski bernama Twelve Apostles, namun
formasi pilar batu ini jumlahnya hanya tersisa
tujuh buah, dengan pilar terakhir runtuh pada
2005. (12apostleshelicopters.com.au)

Sovereign Hill
Museum ruang terbuka terbesar di Victoria
ini merupakan bekas pertambangan emas
pada 1851 dan cikal bakal berdirinya
kota Ballarat. Ketika akhirnya tambang
emas ditutup, pada 1970 pemerintah
mengubahnya menjadi museum. Di atas
lahan seluas 25 hektar ini berdiri 60
bangunan dari tahun 1850-an, yang di
zamannya berfungsi sebagai restoran,
studio foto, penjual kuda, sekolah, dan
penjual perhiasan. Untuk menghidupkan
suasana masa lalu, para staf museum juga
mengenakan kostum kuno. Pengunjung
akan dikawal pemandu ke ruang bawah
tanah bekas tambang emas naik kereta. Di
sini tersimpan nugget emas terbesar kedua
di dunia seberat 69 kilogram. Pengunjung
juga dapat mencari biji emas di sungai yang
membelah Sovereign Hill, dan bila dapat,
emas tersebut dapat dibawa pulang sebagai
suvenir. (sovereignhill.com.au)
