THE BASICS FOR GETTING THE SOFTWARE YOU NEED ON YOUR
COMPUTER
2. REQUIRED IS PROGRAM SOFTWARE
• Microsoft Visio
• Microsoft Project
• Visual Studio
• Windows 7, 8, or 10
• Oracle Virtual Box (if on a Mac)
3. MINIMUM HARDWARE RECOMMENDATIONS
• At least 80 GB of overall HDD Space (30 GB free)
• No less than 4GB of RAM on Windows, or 8GB of RAM on OSX*
• *Macintosh computers must be virtualized and require more RAM
• An i5 processor or greater, or AMD processor of equivalent
power
8. SECURE DOWNLOAD MANAGER
• In some cases, you will need
to download the MS secure
download manager before
downloading your file
• MS appears to be moving
away from this format
• Download and run the SDM
file after the secure
download manager is
installed
9. MOUNTING AN .ISO (WINDOWS 7)
• Windows 8 and 10 include mounting
software by default
• Virtual Clone Drive is recommended for
Windows 7 users
• www.elby.ch/en/products/vcd.html
• Right click the ISO file and Open with
Virtual Clone Drive
• Windows 8 and 10 users may double click
or right click and select ‘Mount’ without
downloading VCD
10. INSTALL YOUR SOFTWARE
• Double click softwarename.exe or setup.exe
• In some cases, you will need to go to a x64 (64bit) or x86 (32bit) folder
and run setup.exe from there
• For Project and Visio, choose the system architecture that matches your
version of MS Office. For example if you have x86 Office installed, you
must install x86 Visio and Project, even if your computer runs x64
architecture.
11. VIRTUAL BOX FOR OSX
• VirtualBox will allow Macintosh
users to run Windows 10
• Download Windows 10 off of
MSDNAA
• Download Oracle VirtualBox
• https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki
/Downloads Choose ‘OS X hosts’
• Install the software and open it
• Select ‘NEW’
12. VIRTUAL BOX CONTINUED
• Fill out the name and version of
your VM
• Allocate at least 4GB (4096MB)
of RAM
• Allocate at least 30GB of HDD
space
13. INSTALLING
WINDOWS 10
• Browse for your Windows
10 .ISO file
• Have your product key
ready (available on
MSDNAA Orders page)
• Go through normal
Windows 10 install process
14. CONGRATULATIONS YOU HAVE A VM
• Download and install your Microsoft Software in your virtual
machine using the steps noted earlier in the presentation
