Mount McKinley is the highest peak in North America at 20,320 feet tall. It is located in central Alaska approximately 130 miles northwest of Anchorage. While early attempts to climb Mount McKinley were unsuccessful, it was first officially summited in 1913 by a party led by Hudson Stuck and Harry Karstens. Today it remains a popular climbing destination with several hundred people summiting it annually.
