Why is motivation key to success?
Imagine getting up in the morning, heading to work and
tackling everything at breakneck pace.
When work is done, you feel the need to keep going!
You get home, clean the house, put your dinner on, and
then head out to the gym.
The key to your productive day is motivation
Now imagine a whole team operating with THAT MUCH
MOTIVATION
Maintaining that motivation is the key. But how do you go
about keeping your whole team motivated all through the
day?
Praise
Praise is a big motivator within a team
When people have been working for a long time on a
big project, praise is always due, no matter how big or
small the project
Praise makes your workforce feel valued.
Praise is also more likely to inspire loyalty in your
team.
Reward
Rewards complement praise.
Again, the reward can be big or small, be it bringing
your team members a cake, buying them breakfast or
taking them to the pub.
Make sure that you put a human face on it, and it’s you
who’s thanking them in person – try not to use e-mail.
Once again, reward is a great way to inspire loyalty in
your team and a great motivator.
Keep them involved
Always invite your team to offer input and feedback to
company policy and processes.
Whether these be team rep meetings, or inviting a
member of the team along to company management
teams, make employees feel part of the decision-
making process.
A collaborative and communal workplace is a far better
motivator than top down management.
The work environment is key
Discipline and targets are important, of course, but try
and promote a relaxed work environment.
Team members and employees tend to rebel against
strict regimes, so keep the work environment loose,
and encourage a bit of flexibility and informality.
Make sure that your office has good amenities, and
that people have a place to step away from their work
and unwind.
Most importantly…be happy!
Remember – if you come in to work in a bad mood
then this will reflect badly on your team.
Make sure that you come into work with the same
attitude that you expect from your team. If you’re
positive, open, and forward looking, so your team is
more likely to feel motivated.
Finally, your best method of keeping your team
motivated is to always to consider their needs and
wants.

  • 2. Why is motivation key to success? Imagine getting up in the morning, heading to work and tackling everything at breakneck pace. When work is done, you feel the need to keep going! You get home, clean the house, put your dinner on, and then head out to the gym. The key to your productive day is motivation Now imagine a whole team operating with THAT MUCH MOTIVATION Maintaining that motivation is the key. But how do you go about keeping your whole team motivated all through the day?
  • 3. Praise Praise is a big motivator within a team When people have been working for a long time on a big project, praise is always due, no matter how big or small the project Praise makes your workforce feel valued. Praise is also more likely to inspire loyalty in your team.
  • 4. Reward Rewards complement praise. Again, the reward can be big or small, be it bringing your team members a cake, buying them breakfast or taking them to the pub. Make sure that you put a human face on it, and it’s you who’s thanking them in person – try not to use e-mail. Once again, reward is a great way to inspire loyalty in your team and a great motivator.
  • 5. Keep them involved Always invite your team to offer input and feedback to company policy and processes. Whether these be team rep meetings, or inviting a member of the team along to company management teams, make employees feel part of the decision- making process. A collaborative and communal workplace is a far better motivator than top down management.
  • 6. The work environment is key Discipline and targets are important, of course, but try and promote a relaxed work environment. Team members and employees tend to rebel against strict regimes, so keep the work environment loose, and encourage a bit of flexibility and informality. Make sure that your office has good amenities, and that people have a place to step away from their work and unwind.
  • 7. Most importantly…be happy! Remember – if you come in to work in a bad mood then this will reflect badly on your team. Make sure that you come into work with the same attitude that you expect from your team. If you’re positive, open, and forward looking, so your team is more likely to feel motivated. Finally, your best method of keeping your team motivated is to always to consider their needs and wants.
