2. Getting to know mosques
Mosques are places where muslims go to pray, there, they
worship their religion, and their God, Allah.
3. Routines to follow when at a Mosque
When at a temple, gurdwara, church or mosque:
· We must always wash before prayer, there are public bathrooms for men and
women.
· We must take off our shoes in order to enter the mosque.
· We must wear clothes which represent modesty and don't show the shape of the
body. No high heels, tanktops or anything too revealing. No shorts for men either and
depending on which mosque women must cover their hair.
4. About the praying procedures
· When praying we must not make noise, or disturb other people or we will be asked
to leave. Loud talking within the mosque, as well as discussion of topics deemed
disrespectful, is forbidden in areas where people are praying. In addition, it is
unpolite and might be taken as an offense to walk in front of or otherwise disturb
Muslims in prayer.
· When praying, men are separated from women. All Muslim authorities hold the
consensus opinion that only men may lead prayer for men. Nevertheless women
prayer leaders are allowed to lead prayer in front of all-female congregations.
· People are called to prayer at the minaret, according to muslims you must attend
this calling.
5. Prayer leader
The permanent prayer leader (imam) must be a free honest individual, and is
authoritative in religious matters.
In mosques constructed and maintained by the government, the prayer leader is
appointed by the ruler. In private mosques, however, appointment is made by
members of the congregation through majority voting.
According to the Hanafi school of Islamic jurisprudence, the individual who built the
mosque has a stronger claim to the title of imam, but this view is not shared by the
other schools.
