Jesus tells his disciples that unless their righteousness surpasses that of the scribes and Pharisees, they will not enter the Kingdom of Heaven. He says that while it was said not to kill, now even being angry with or insulting someone can make one liable to judgment. Jesus advises settling disputes quickly and making amends with others before bringing gifts to God, so as to avoid being handed over to authorities and thrown into prison.
