Mental health has been in the news quite a bit lately. Dozens of U.S. states are currently suing Meta for contributing to the youth mental health crisis by inserting addictive features into their products, while the U.S. Surgeon General is touring the nation to bring awareness to the growing epidemic of loneliness and isolation. The country has endured periods of low national morale, such as in the 1970s when high inflation and the energy crisis worsened public sentiment following the Vietnam War. The current mood, however, feels different. Gallup recently reported that national mental health is at an all-time low, with few bright spots to lift spirits.
To better understand how Americans are feeling and their attitudes towards mental health in general, ThinkNow conducted a nationally representative quantitative survey of 1,500 respondents and found some interesting differences among ethnic, age and gender groups.
Technology
For example, 52% agree that technology and social media have a negative impact on mental health, but when broken out by race, 61% of Whites felt technology had a negative effect, and only 48% of Hispanics thought it did.
While technology has helped us keep in touch with friends and family in faraway places, it appears to have degraded our ability to connect in person. Staying connected online is a double-edged sword since the same news feed that brings us pictures of the grandkids and fluffy kittens also feeds us news about the wars in Israel and Ukraine, the dysfunction in Washington, the latest mass shooting and the climate crisis.
Hispanics may have a built-in defense against the isolation technology breeds, owing to their large, multigenerational households, strong social support systems, and tendency to use social media to stay connected with relatives abroad.
Age and Gender
When asked how individuals rate their mental health, men rate it higher than women by 11 percentage points, and Baby Boomers rank it highest at 83%, saying it’s good or excellent vs. 57% of Gen Z saying the same.
Gen Z spends the most amount of time on social media, so the notion that social media negatively affects mental health appears to be correlated. Unfortunately, Gen Z is also the generation that’s least comfortable discussing mental health concerns with healthcare professionals. Only 40% of them state they’re comfortable discussing their issues with a professional compared to 60% of Millennials and 65% of Boomers.
Race Affects Attitudes
As seen in previous research conducted by ThinkNow, Asian Americans lag other groups when it comes to awareness of mental health issues. Twenty-four percent of Asian Americans believe that having a mental health issue is a sign of weakness compared to the 16% average for all groups. Asians are also considerably less likely to be aware of mental health services in their communities (42% vs. 55%) and most likely to seek out information on social media (51% vs. 35%).

9. Borse di studio: studenti classi prime e
seconde.
La Giunta Provinciale di Parma ha approvato il bando per la concessione di
borse di studio, destinate agli studenti delle classi 1^ e 2^ in possesso delle
condizioni economiche riportate nel bando stesso.
Per avere diritto all’erogazione della borsa di studio il valore dell’Indicatore
della Situazione Economica Equivalente (ISEE) del nucleo familiare dello
studente, riferito ai redditi dell’anno 2012, non potrà essere superiore a
10.632,94 euro.
Le domande dovranno essere consegnate alla Segreteria della scuola
(orario d’ufficio), in via Costituente 4/A, entro e non oltre le ore 13.00 del
giorno 3 marzo 2014.

I genitori verificheranno nelle pagelle presenti nel registro elettronico, in
corrispondenza con le valutazioni insufficienti, la tipologia del recupero

16. “La giornata bianca”
Il Collegio dei docenti in data 23 gennaio 2014 e il Consiglio d’Istituto in
data 28 gennaio 2014 hanno deliberato il progetto “La giornata bianca”.
Il contesto in cui si realizzerà sarà Andalo, nell’area dell’Altopiano della
Paganella. Le attrezzature presenti nella località permettono di praticare lo
sci alpino, lo sci da fondo, passeggiate con le ciaspole. La recente
costruzione dello stadio del ghiaccio, adiacente alla piscina, consente di
praticare il pattinaggio.
Il progetto si attuerà
MARTEDI’ 18 febbraio 2014
La partenza è fissata per le ore 6.15 presso il Palazzetto dello Sport in via Silvio
Pellico (con ritrovo alle ore 6.00).
Il rientro è previsto indicativamente per le ore 20.00.
I trasferimenti Parma-Andalo e viceversa saranno effettuati in pullman.
17. “La giornata bianca”
Per consentire una efficace organizzazione ed una partecipazione motivata
è necessario che gli studenti che aderiscono all’iniziativa consegnino
l’autorizzazione (firmata dalle famiglie se minorenni) e la quota di
partecipazione in occasione del Comitato Studentesco che si terrà il giorno
sabato 08 febbraio 2014.
In particolare chi non sa sciare e desidera provare è tenuto a prendere
lezioni di gruppo con i maestri prenotati dalla scuola.
Per praticare lo sci alpino e lo snowboard, sarà necessaria una specifica
autorizzazione da parte dei genitori. Al riguardo si precisa che è possibile
noleggiare l’attrezzatura sciistica sul posto.

19. Campionati Internazionali di Giochi Matematici
della Bocconi: semifinali (22 marzo) e premiazioni (5 aprile)
Le semifinali dei Campionati Internazionali di giochi matematici si svolgeranno
sabato 22 marzo 2014 presso il nostro Liceo dalle ore 14.30: i migliori classificati
parteciperanno alla finale nazionale, che si terrà a Milano, presso l'Università
Bocconi, sabato 10 maggio 2014: i primi 5 classificati della finale nazionale delle
categorie C1, C2 e i primi tre classificati delle altre categorie vinceranno viaggio e
soggiorno a Parigi e parteciperanno alla finale internazionale, che si terrà alla fine
del mese di agosto del corrente anno;

non oltre sabato 1 febbraio 2014, il nome, il cognome, la classe frequentata dagli

Gli alunni a fianco indicati sono stati

febbraio presso il Campus Universitario
di Parma.
Prima della Gara Provinciale gli studenti
ammessi avranno la possibilità di partecipare
ad uno Stage Olimpico di preparazione che
si svolgerà al Dipartimento di Matematica
dell’Università di Parma il 12 e il 13 febbraio.
Lo stage è aperto anche agli studenti non

La prova consiste in un saggio di argomento filosofico scritto in italiano o

La prossima sessione di esame per la certificazione Cambridge First Certificate of
English-FCE (livello B2) avrà luogo sabato 12 aprile 2014.
Gli alunni che intendono sostenere l’esame dovranno provvedere ad effettuare il
versamento di € 165,00 sul bollettino intestato della scuola (reperibile presso il
centralino).
Copia della ricevuta attestante l’avvenuto pagamento dovrà essere consegnata presso il
centralino della sede centrale entro e non oltre le ore 13.30 di mercoledì 22 gennaio
2014.
L’esame si svolgerà presso la sede di Via Benassi.
La data della prova orale – Speaking Paper – verrà comunicata successivamente e avrà
luogo nella settimana antecedente o seguente alla prova scritta presso la sede dell’Oxford
Institute di Parma

al Campus Universitario di Parma
Gli studenti dovranno presentarsi al Campus davanti alla sede di
Ingegneria alle ore 9.30. Il termine della prova è previsto per le ore 12.00.
