WCW and WWF battled for cable TV ratings in the 1990s. WCW launched Nitro to compete with WWF's Monday Night Raw. Led by Eric Bischoff, WCW rose in popularity but began to struggle with repetitive storylines. The WWF introduced the Attitude Era in the late 1990s which featured edgier content and boosted their ratings above WCW. In 2001, WWF purchased WCW assets after it began losing large amounts of money. This marked the end of the Monday night wars between the two biggest wrestling companies.
