This document provides an overview of a presentation given by two reference librarians at UConn Waterbury about conducting college-level research. The presentation covers exploring the library's webpage and databases, using the "assignment calculator" tool, and reviewing strategies for finding books using the HOMER search system and finding articles by subject and identifying relevant databases. The librarians provide their contact information for any questions.
This document discusses social web startups that combine social entrepreneurship and the web. It mentions The Hive, an organization that networks entrepreneurs, and how the social mindset and abundance of people and data everywhere enables new opportunities. Social search is highlighted as an area where startups can make existing models obsolete by building new ones.
This document discusses how micropatronage could provide funding of over $100k per year if 500 patrons each contributed $20 per month. It suggests starting simply by identifying who someone would support through micropatronage. The document also mentions rosshill.com.au and an email address.
This document discusses the University of Connecticut's efforts to implement learning commons models at its regional campuses to better serve commuter and non-traditional students. A survey of students found they valued quiet study spaces, technology, writing centers, and tutoring services. Each regional campus then developed plans to transform existing library spaces through aggressive weeding, increased collaborative areas, upgraded furnishings and technology, and partnerships with academic support services. Lessons learned included starting small, being flexible to changing needs, and ensuring spaces can be easily reconfigured.
The document summarizes a presentation about the website iconn.org, which provides Connecticut residents access to thousands of online resources through public libraries. The presentation introduces iconn.org as a virtual library and gateway to view library holdings, policies, and addresses. It explores who can use iconn.org, what resources it offers like articles, books, and magazines, and how to navigate the site to search databases and request items. The presentation demonstrates searching for topics, viewing search results, and using additional features before concluding and thanking attendees.

During the Great Depression of the 1930s, candy companies thrived by introducing new confections that remain popular today such as Snickers, Tootsie Pops, and Mars bars. Candy companies are relatively recession-proof as they stayed in business during the Great Depression. Similarly, as unemployment has risen and retirement savings have decreased during the recent recession, the candy business has seen historic precedent and strength as the recession seems to have a sweet tooth.

Advanced App Building - Tips, Tricks & Lessons LearnedJay Graves
The document provides tips and lessons learned for advanced app building. It discusses provisioning profiles, how they work, and important values they contain. It describes how to install, read, and manage provisioning profiles using tools like Terminal, QuickLook plugins, and Automator services. Xcode's use of provisioning profiles and issues that can occur with automatic profile selection are covered. Solutions for building multiple configurations like using .xcconfig files are suggested. Other topics include switching keychains, OTA installation, and installing multiple apps simultaneously.
- Provisioning profiles contain important information for code signing like the bundle identifier, entitlements, and developer certificates. They need to be installed and referenced correctly in Xcode to avoid build errors.
- When dealing with multiple builds from the same project, manually changing the provisioning profile reference in Xcode can be error prone. It's better to generate an xcconfig file from the profile to automate selection.
- Issues like duplicate certificates in the keychain can cause code signing errors. Making sure the keychain is configured correctly helps avoid problems with building and running apps.
Django is a high-level Python web framework that encourages rapid development and clean design. It makes building web apps faster with less code by providing models, templates, views, and URL patterns. To build a project, you create a project folder using startproject, then add apps using startapp which contain models, views, and other files. You sync the database, configure URLs and views, then run the development server to view your new app.

Dive into the realm of operating systems (OS) with Pravash Chandra Das, a seasoned Digital Forensic Analyst, as your guide. 🚀 This comprehensive presentation illuminates the core concepts, types, and evolution of OS, essential for understanding modern computing landscapes.
Beginning with the foundational definition, Das clarifies the pivotal role of OS as system software orchestrating hardware resources, software applications, and user interactions. Through succinct descriptions, he delineates the diverse types of OS, from single-user, single-task environments like early MS-DOS iterations, to multi-user, multi-tasking systems exemplified by modern Linux distributions.
Crucial components like the kernel and shell are dissected, highlighting their indispensable functions in resource management and user interface interaction. Das elucidates how the kernel acts as the central nervous system, orchestrating process scheduling, memory allocation, and device management. Meanwhile, the shell serves as the gateway for user commands, bridging the gap between human input and machine execution. 💻
The narrative then shifts to a captivating exploration of prominent desktop OSs, Windows, macOS, and Linux. Windows, with its globally ubiquitous presence and user-friendly interface, emerges as a cornerstone in personal computing history. macOS, lauded for its sleek design and seamless integration with Apple's ecosystem, stands as a beacon of stability and creativity. Linux, an open-source marvel, offers unparalleled flexibility and security, revolutionizing the computing landscape. 🖥️
Moving to the realm of mobile devices, Das unravels the dominance of Android and iOS. Android's open-source ethos fosters a vibrant ecosystem of customization and innovation, while iOS boasts a seamless user experience and robust security infrastructure. Meanwhile, discontinued platforms like Symbian and Palm OS evoke nostalgia for their pioneering roles in the smartphone revolution.
The journey concludes with a reflection on the ever-evolving landscape of OS, underscored by the emergence of real-time operating systems (RTOS) and the persistent quest for innovation and efficiency. As technology continues to shape our world, understanding the foundations and evolution of operating systems remains paramount. Join Pravash Chandra Das on this illuminating journey through the heart of computing. 🌟
