This document provides a summary of a report on mining conflicts and indigenous peoples in Guatemala. It discusses the resurgence of mining in Guatemala and the related social and environmental impacts, particularly regarding the Marlin gold mine in San Marcos. It describes how the mine has negatively affected indigenous communities' access to land and water resources and caused social disruption. It then summarizes the various organizational responses of communities to resist the mine and defend their rights, including community consultations, municipal elections, legal actions, and creation of a regional indigenous peoples' council.
