Blake Mycoskie founded TOMS shoes in 2006 after visiting Argentina and witnessing the positive impact of providing children with shoes. TOMS operates on a "One for One" model where for each pair of shoes purchased, TOMS donates a pair of shoes to a child in need. By 2012, TOMS had donated over 2 million pairs of shoes globally. Mycoskie worked with local shoemakers to develop his first samples and sold his initial inventory from his apartment. TOMS' model has since inspired many other social enterprises to adopt similar donation concepts.
