This document provides an overview and instructions for a Clinical and Applied Sciences in Medicine (CASSM) module. It outlines that students will integrate various sciences through an independent study of clinical presentations of their choosing. Students will choose a topic, conduct background reading, identify patients, write case reports and a dissertation. The timeline provides checkpoints throughout the semesters. Assessments include case reports and a dissertation, which will be evaluated and include a viva voce exam. Plagiarism is prohibited and students are given tips to pace themselves and ask for help when needed.
The document discusses a study on technology overload in teacher education. It summarizes an online graduate course on computer-assisted language learning (CALL) taught in 2006. Five out of eight students wrote about feeling frustrated by too much information, not being able to find things, and not knowing where to put things. Interviews revealed frustration was due to time constraints, procedural errors, and group work, but was lessened by personal attention, connections with others, and relevance to work. A later survey found most respondents sometimes feel overwhelmed by technologies, though personal support, pacing, reflection, and hands-on experience can help mediate this. The conclusion is that while buzzwords seem magical, proper support allows teachers to learn quickly without feeling overwhelmed.
Skypecasts as a mediator of authentic communication - ALAK 2007Daniel Craig
This is the presentation from a CALL Fair (like a poster) presentation that Dan Craig and Jungtae Kim gave on November 17 at the ALAK 2007 conference at Sookmyung Women's University in Seoul, Korea.
FireMAX is a digital pen and paper solution for efficiently managing fire protection testing reports and log books. It allows technicians to complete AS1851-2005 forms digitally in the field, sends the completed forms to back-end systems in real-time, and stores the signed forms for long-term archiving. The system aims to maximize billing hours, invoicing efficiency, and response to non-compliant test results.
The document discusses serving God rather than people, material things, or flesh. It emphasizes putting one's trust in Jesus Christ and God rather than people, as people will fail. It discusses distinguishing true prophets from false prophets by examining their fruits of the spirit, especially love. The greatest commandment is to love God and others.
Online Social Networks For Specialized Language Learning CommunitiesDaniel Craig
I talked about using services like Ning to create online classroom spaces. A little something that I through together for a digital poster session (though I didn't really use it)
ANOVA (analysis of variance) is used to determine if different treatment groups differ significantly on some measure. It compares the variance between groups to the variance within groups. If the between-group variance is large relative to the within-group variance, it suggests the treatment had an effect. The analysis calculates an F-ratio, with larger values indicating it is less likely the groups differ due to chance. Researchers use statistical tables to determine the probability (p-value) that the F-ratio occurred by chance if there was actually no effect.
Kamall 2007 Presentation - Using Web 2.0 Technologies to Deliver Individualiz...Daniel Craig
Using Web 2.0 Technologies to Deliver Individualized Instructional Resources to Language Learners. This is a presentation that I will/did give for the Korean Association of Multi-media Assisted Language Learning (KAMALL) 2007 conference. I detail the concepts and technologies around an approach to provide learners with individualized content.
The document describes a study on using Twitter for academic writing instruction. Over 3 semesters, the researcher implemented Twitter in advanced writing courses and collected student feedback and data. Based on the findings, the researcher refined the instructional design to better support constructivist and experiential learning principles. Key revisions included providing more training on using Twitter, implementing structured assignment types that required higher-order thinking, and facilitating greater interaction and resource sharing within student networks on Twitter. The researcher concluded that Twitter has potential to enhance writing instruction by enabling authentic practice and feedback within large online communities.
This document discusses various online resources, applications, and interactions that can help improve writing skills, including search engines, collaborative writing tools, blogs, discussion forums, text and microblogging platforms, social networks, and other miscellaneous resources. It provides examples like Google, Wikispaces, Blogger, English Club, Twitter, Facebook, and LiveMocha to illustrate different categories of online tools for writing practice and feedback.
