To An Employer Evaluating Mike Page
Dear Sir or Madam:
This is my enthusiastic and unqualified recommendation for Mike Page.
Mike began working for Brugg in 2003 as an entry-level rewinder operator. After demonstrating mastery of
this equipment, over the next two years he progressed to operating more challenging and important
equipment. These included both our planetary strander used to make optical groundwire (OPGW) fiber optic
cable and our optical time domain reflectometer (OTDR) used in the final QC testing of this cable. His work
was consistently superior.
By 2005, Mike had progressed to be the First-Shift Leader, a position he held until 2008. This was a
working leadership position, so he continued to demonstrate his skill in both operating and maintaining our
production equipment as well as providing leadership to the other members of his shift team. In 2008, he
was promoted to Production Supervisor, and thereby assumed responsibility for stranding operations across
typically three shifts. He continued in this position until the end of 2015 when he was promoted to Plant
Manager.
As Plant Manager, Mike was responsible for the plant O&M budget. He restructured plant operations in
order to improve overall efficiency, including enhancing both “right the first time” and “on time delivery”
performance. He also revamped our inventory management system and put in place a method for the
company to monitor scrap so that it could then be actively managed in order to minimize it.
Mike’s promotion also meant that he assumed overall responsibility for our “c-tube” production. These are
stainless steel loose tubes with optical fibers inside. We were still struggling with a new production line for
making these tubes. The line was new technology purchased from an overseas vendor who was unable to
properly support their equipment which had proven to be unreliable and deficient in numerous ways. Over
the course of 2016, he helped identify US based engineering and support sources and in collaboration with
them and the leader of that line, he was able to increase the net efficiency of the line to a level approaching
90%. Had the parent company not decided to shut down our operation in late 2016, we no doubt would
have been able to further increase the line’s efficiency to well above 90% which is where it needed to be.
During its existence, Brugg Cables was a small company with a close-knit environment. It was necessary
that everyone handle multiple roles and responsibilities. This frequently required actions outside of one’s
experience or comfort zone, and often with ambiguous or incomplete guidance or instructions. Mike showed
initiative and exceptional judgment in coping with this reality. Moreover, he was respected, well-liked, and
always positive and cheerful.
I am certain that Mike will be absolutely outstanding as a member of your team too.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or need additional information about Mike’s
employment with Brugg Cables.
Sincerely,
Mike Riddle
Vice President, OPGW Sales & Engineering
