Serverless computing (aka FaaS, Functions as a Service) is one of the hottest topics in the field of cloud computing. IBM Cloud Functions (built on Apache OpenWhisk) is one player in this new field.
During this presentation, Frederic will talk about his journey through the world of serverless computing, the core concepts, the value proposition and differentiators, typical usage and real-world customer scenarios, and the underlying programming model of serverless computing in general and Cloud Functions in particular, latest trends and additions, and conclude his session with some fancy demos.
Running Spring, .NET, and IBM Watson Voice on PCF 2.0VMware Tanzu
Join Vince Russo and Peter Blum from Pivotal as they show attendees a real-world example of straddling workloads across Pivotal Application Service (PAS) and Pivotal Container Service (PKS).
In this practitioner-focused webinar, we'll tour through Spring and .NET versions of an app to receive the output generated by the Watson Voice Gateway (WVG). Then we'll walk through the PKS-managed Kubernetes cluster using IBM-provided pods for deploying the Watson Voice Gateway (WVG). The cluster will be deployed using the PKS CLI, then the pods will be created with the WVG configuration file.
The Spring and .NET applications will be deployed on PAS. A third-party VoIP application will be used to call into the Voice Gateway to issue commands, which will be outputted to the Spring and .NET Application for "processing." Hear directly from our field and R&D experts!

It’s critical to select a forward-looking approach to how you organize, use, and enrich your data in the cloud. Modern data repositories have made it easy to store your unstructured data, but getting insights from that data has often been challenging and involve batch ETL processes, data pipelines, and so on. In this session, we show you how to build complex queries to draw valuable insights from data directly in MongoDB and then visualize it using MongoDB Charts—a tool built to natively process rich, nested JSON documents.

Presentation I gave at Hacking for Hustlers in NYC on Feb 16, 2012. This is a basic introduction to content and service APIs and how they can help prove your model and grow your business for less time and money than if you didn't use them.
Apologies for some of the lack of context. The presentation makes far more sense if you hear me narrating the slides.
Cloud computing delivers the ability to provision resources on demand to your users. Cloud computing is enabling a major transformation in which you can turn your datacenter into an IT-as-a-Service platform. This means you can deliver applications to your end users faster than ever, without investing in new infrastructure, training new personnel, or licensing new software. Cloud computing also helps your organization compete in new markets and communicate with customers in new ways. You can drive down the costs of doing business and increase your ability to adapt to changing market conditions.
Because cloud computing changes the way your organization consumes IT, you can change the role of IT in your organization and the way your team thinks about and delivers business success.
Whether in your datacenter, with a service provider, or from Microsoft’s datacenters, Microsoft provides the choice, flexibility, and control to adopt cloud computing in whichever way best meets your unique business needs; whether that be through a private cloud, a public cloud, or a combination of the two.
What is Machine Learning and how does it work? But even more importantly, what problems can ML solve for you and your company?
Once you have understood the potential use cases, we will briefly describe the main challenges in the world of Big Data.
Why is deploying ML models so hard and how can Cloud Computing help?
Many MLaaS options are available on the market (AWS, Google, Azure, BigML, etc.). We will see how they compare to each other and which may best fit your needs.
Whenever MLaaS is not enough, you can build your own ML models. We will briefly explain why Serverless is a great deployment strategy for this use case and what problems and limitation arise with it.
Furthermore, we will put these ideas into practice and build a model for Sentiment Analysis, based on Python (scikit-learn), and trained with a public dataset by Stanford University.
Creating a GraphQL API in Python: from Django to fully asynchronousMirumee Software
GraphQL has become one of the hottest web development technologies and is gaining popularity. And there are valid reasons for that! During a workshop held on DjangoConEurope 2019, we presented the basics of building GraphQL servers in Python using Ariadne, a modern and lightweight library (https://github.com/mirumee/ariadne).
We started with the most important concepts then worked through creating an example query with a resolver and a mutation. We also wanted to give a sneak peek into Python of the future - asynchronous subscriptions with Ariadne, Django Channels 2.0, Starlette and asynchronous database access!

PuppetConf 2017 | Adobe Advertising Cloud: A Lean Puppet Workflow to Support ...Nicolas Brousse
Building and scaling a multi-cloud solution that's enabled for cloud bursting is not a trivial task, and requires a lot of automation. While experiencing hyper-growth on the Adobe Advertising Cloud, our operations engineering team had to frequently update and improve its workflow in order to stay nimble and allow fast delivery of new infrastructure. At TubeMogul/Adobe Advertising Cloud, we implemented a lean Puppet workflow that enables the operations engineering team to deploy and support a broad range of services in a complex environment that supports hundreds of billions of requests a day. With over 150 changes released per day on its production infrastructure, the team had to adjust and tune its processes to enforce quality, standards, to review, and to prevent systems from breaking. In this talk, you will learn how we implemented our infrastructure as code by leveraging tools like Puppet, Gerrit, Terraform, and Jenkins, which together enable our private and public cloud infrastructures across 12 locations and four continents.

Making everything better with OSGi - a happy case study in building a really ...mfrancis
OSGi Community Event 2014
Abstract:
The WebSphere Application Server Liberty Profile makes extensive use of OSGi technologies to achieve a dynamic, compact, flexible and powerful application server. Using a foundation of Equinox, Subsytems, Configuration Admin, Metatype, and Declarative Services, we built a right-sized elastically-capable runtimes which allows users to get going with (almost) zero-setup, (almost) zero-hardware, and (really) zero-migration.
This talk will discuss how Liberty uses OSGi, what OSGi gives us, why OSGi services are the best thing since sliced bread, what we've learned, and our development best practices.

She is a co-author of Enterprise OSGi in Action and has spoken at Devoxx, JavaZone, The ServerSide Java Symposium, JAX London, GeeCon, and the Great Indian Developer Summit, as well as a number of user groups.
DevOps@Scale- IBM Cloud and NetAp-Insight-BerlinSreeni Pamidala
DevOps@scale. IBM and NetApp recently joined forces to dramatically accelerate developer workspace creation and build times (by more than 30x!) for the developers leveraging IBM Cloud Container Service powered by Kubernetes. Agile and Lean methods drove the entire project lifecycle from early design thinking workshops to pair programming with weekly playbacks. By starting with a design thinking focus and practicing agile methods, the team repeatedly demonstrated the ability to pivot, accelerate development, and ultimately highlight the flexibility and high-value capabilities of both the NetApp Data Fabric and the IBM Cloud Platform. This session will take an in-depth look at the practices used by the joint development team, and the high-level results they were able to achieve in a very short period of time.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
