Mike Olson crafted his first snowboard in 1977 and went on to co-found Mervin Manufacturing with Pete Saari in the late 1980s. Mervin Manufacturing is now the last major snowboard manufacturer located in North America, employing over 180 people in Sequim, Washington. Olson and Saari started building snowboards in Olson's garage and a horse barn, driven by their passion and desire to develop snowboarding independently without influence from the larger snow sports industry. They have kept production in Washington to stay closely involved in testing and innovating new designs.
