INTEGRATION OF TELEHEALTH WITH BEHAVIORAL HEALTH IN 2022 cap.pptxkumarB54
Behavioral healthcare is becoming more and more focused due to the need for attending to one's mental health has increased with the arrival of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The pandemic showed people how their mental health can be affected overnight if not tended to properly. This increased access to behavioral health over the last few years. This in turn opened opportunities for more practices to integrate behavioral services with many healthcare platforms which helps the related patients.
Healthcare these days is very much digitalized. Telehealth bridges the gaps between healthcare providers and patients. The majority of the services are automated so that both the providers and the patients benefit from their use.
Telehealth refers to the healthcare services provided through virtual means. This allows one to reach and communicate with their healthcare providers safely and quickly by using simple telecommunication techniques. Such as telephonic chats, live video calls, health apps, remote patient monitoring, etc.

Compliance and Implementation Strategies for CMS Physician Final Rule 2023Conference Panel
Each summer, CMS (Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services) releases its proposed physician payment and coding change guidelines for the upcoming year. After gathering feedback from the physician community, CMS published the final rule on November 1, 2022, which either confirmed or modified issues from the initial proposal. The provider comments have the potential to influence CMS to deviate from its original guidelines. It is of utmost importance for healthcare providers and their staff to be aware of the specific items that will be implemented in 2023 and those that CMS has decided not to move forward with. The aspects of the proposed rule that were not implemented for 2023 may signal issues that are still under consideration for 2024. Notably, this year brings significant changes to Evaluation and Management (EM) services, as well as prolonged services, necessitating a complete overhaul in coding practices outside of the office setting. Additionally, there are new criteria for determining prolonged services for Medicare patients. Being well-informed about these updates will be crucial for providers to navigate the evolving landscape of Medicare reimbursement and ensure optimal patient care.

The Promise: CRISPR offers exciting possibilities:
Gene Therapy: Correcting genetic diseases like cystic fibrosis.
Agriculture: Engineering crops resistant to pests and harsh environments.
Research: Studying gene function to unlock new knowledge.
The Peril: Ethical concerns demand attention:
Off-target Effects: Unintended DNA edits can have unforeseen consequences.
Eugenics: Misusing CRISPR for designer babies raises social and ethical questions.
Equity: High costs could limit access to this potentially life-saving technology.
The Path Forward: Responsible development is crucial:
International Collaboration: Clear guidelines are needed for research and human trials.
Public Education: Open discussions ensure informed decisions about CRISPR.
Prioritize Safety and Ethics: Safety and ethical principles must be paramount.

Medicare Telehealth Billing Guidelines For 2022
Telehealth is witnessed high and low acceptance during COVID-19 pandemic last year, and it might play a key role in care
delivery in 2022. During pandemic, guidelines has been loosened for more acceptance of telehealth services as in-
person care may not be available all the time. CMS has updated the Telehealth Services List to show minor changes due
to various activities, such as the CY 2022 MPFS Final Rule and legislative changes from the Consolidated Appropriations
Act of 2021. In this article, we briefly discussed these Medicare telehealth billing guidelines.
Temporarily Added Telehealth Services
Due to the provisions of the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2021, the CMS continues to evaluate the inclusion of
telehealth services that were temporarily added to the Medicare telehealth services list during the COVID-19 PHE
(Public Health Emergency). CMS has finalized certain services added to the Medicare telehealth services list will remain
on the list through December 31, 2023.This will allow additional time for CMS to evaluate whether each service should
be permanently added to the Medicare telehealth services list. The previous telehealth restrictions limiting Telehealth
Mental Health services to only patients residing in rural areas, no longer apply. CMS also extended inclusion of certain
cardiac and intensive cardiac rehabilitation codes through the end of CY 2023. This will allow for more time for CMS to
gather data to decide whether or not each telehealth service will be permanently added to the Medicare telehealth
services list.

Medicare Telehealth Billing Guidelines For 2022
Definition of ‘Originating Sites’
Section 123 of the Consolidated Appropriations Act (CAA) also removed the geographic restrictions and added the home
of the beneficiary as a permissible originating site for telehealth services furnished for the purposes of diagnosis,
evaluation or treatment of a mental health disorder. In CR 12519, CMS clarified that the patient’s home includes
temporary lodging such as hotels, or homeless shelters, or other temporary lodging that are a short distance from the
patient’s actual home, where the ‘originating site facility fee’ doesn’t apply.
Revised POS 02 and POS 10
POS 02 (Telehealth provided other than in patient’s home): The location where health services and health related
services are provided or received, through telecommunication technology. Patient is not located in their home when
receiving health services or health related services through telecommunication technology.
POS 10 (Telehealth provided in patient’s home): The location where health services and health related services are
provided or received through telecommunication technology. Patient is located in their home (which is a location other
than a hospital or other facility where the patient receives care in a private residence) when receiving health services or
health related services through telecommunication technology.

• FR – A supervising practitioner was present through a real-time two-way, audio/video communication technology

audio-only telecommunications system) became effective January 1, 2022. This modifier which allows reporting of
