SUBJ: New Events of Adler Planetarium - ‘Scopes in the City Program
Hi Josie,
I wanted to reach out to address upcoming events in regards to Chicago’s Adler Planetarium. In
recent developments, the Planetarium has begun a new program, ‘Scopes in the City, which
localizes interactive opportunities for communities to experience our universe first-hand.
Scientific learning and interaction with our world is highly beneficial to both the current as well
as growing and up-coming generations. The given events with the Planetarium offer the
opportunity to unite communities, open education for the youth, and utilize new and innovative
techniques for scientific purposes. For example:
● The program will travel to public libraries, neighborhoods, parks, and tap rooms,
becoming an accessible experience for a diversified audience and wide range of
communities.
● Beyond telescope viewings, participants will be offered the opportunity to participate in a
scientific activity, or be included within a Q&A with a true astronomer.
2. ● The telescopic viewings will be dependent on location, date, time as well as weather.
Participants have the opportunity to view experiences such as Mars, Venus, Saturn,
Jupiter, the Moon, or the Sun.
● ‘Scopes not only brings an opportunity to enrich communities, but grants individuals who
may have never previously had a chance to interact with a professional telescope before,
the chance to do so. Expanding learning and enrichment opportunities for all ages,
particularly the youth.
I would love to connect further and gauge your interest in the Planetarium’s upcoming events. I
would greatly appreciate hearing your input and or thoughts, seeing what angle may work best
for you and finding the perfect fit. I’ll be sure to follow-up with you to discuss potential angles,
and any other ideas for a potential story.
Sincerely,
Sarah Lydon
